Inhibiting soil loss and runoff from small plots induced by an individual freeze-thaw cycle using three rangeland species

This study investigated the role of three rangeland species *** trichophorum,Medicago sativa,and Lolium prenne on mitigating of effects of a freeze-thaw(FT)cycle on runoff generation and soil loss from small experimental *** plots(0.5×0.5m)were prepared in three replicates for control(i.e.,under a FT cycle only)and treatments(i.e.,individually planted with the study species and subject to a FT cycle).The treated plots were then placed at a slope of 20%and subjected to simulated rainfall with intensity of 70 mm h-1 and 30 min *** results of the study showed a significant effect(P<0.05)of the plants on controlling runoff and soil loss after a FT ***,the detrimental effects of the FT cycle due to performance of ice lenses and formation of an active melting layer in the soil surface were ameliorated by the presence of litter on the soil and root-binding effect of the *** to runoff increased by 54,111 and 10%,runoff volume decreased by 27,68 and 0.4%and soil loss changed by-34,-62,and+6.5%in the plots planted with ***,*** and ***,*** results of the current study indicated that *** had the maximum benefit on reducing runoff and soil loss from the plots undergoing a FT cycle.

Signal promoting role of a p-type transition metal dichalcogenide used for the detection of ultra-trace amounts of diclofenac via a labeled aptasensor

A p-type transition metal dichalcogenide(WS2)was synthesized and hybridized with graphene oxide via a simple hydrothermal *** as-prepared material was used to modify a glassy carbon electrode for the fabrication of a simple,stable,and repeatable methylene blue-labeled“signal-off”aptasensor used for the sensitive determination of very low amounts of sodium diclofenac(DCF).The synthetic material,modification process,and role of WS2 in the current response enhancement were studied by X-ray diffraction,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,field emission scanning electron microscopy,high resolution transmission electron microscopy,Hall effect,cyclic voltammetry,differential pulse voltammetry,and electrochemical impedance ***,a wide linear range of DCF concentration(0.5-300 nmol/L),very low limit of detection(0.23 nmol/L),and good selectivity were obtained using the differential pulse voltammetry method with the assembled ***,the fabricated aptasensor was successfully developed for physiological real samples with significant recoveries.

Ultraviolet to visible frequency-conversion properties of rare earths doped glass ceramics

Nd3＋,Eu3＋ and Tb3＋ ions doped transparent chlorophosphate glass ceramics were prepared and their frequency-conversion properties were studied. X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns evidenced the formation of expected halide nanocrystals. The absorption,excitation and emission spectra investigation indicated that some of rare earth （RE） ions were trapped in low phonon energy halide nanocrystals,and therefore an efficient down frequency-conversion was observed. The comparative spectroscopic studies of RE doped samples suggested that the glass ceramics systems are potentially applicable as efficient ultraviolet to visible frequency-conversion photonics materials.

Detecting Ultra-Violet Radiation by Using Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles

In this paper sensitivity of chemically synthesized titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles to ultra-violet (UV) radiation is investigated. For this purpose three types of ultra-violet photodetectors were fabricated, one with as-synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles, another one with TiO2 nanoparticles annealed at 600℃, and the third one with TiO2 nanoparticles annealed at 800℃. In each case the annealing time duration was one hour. The photodetectors were fabricated on glass slides where on them a thin layer of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) was deposited by spray pyrolysis. The results show that all photodetectors are sensitive to UV radiation where the photodetectors fabricated from annealed TiO2 nanoparticles are more sensitive than the photodetectors fabricated from as-synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles.

LaSrMnO(LSMO) has recently shown promising features as a metal-insulator material over a limited range of Sr doping(x=0.175 to 0.25). Its thermal property has been commonly measured through the very expensive calorimetric method. In this paper, a considerably more convenient thermal investigation approach to this issue through the thermal irradiation theory is proposed. LSMO compounds were synthesized with a wide range of x(0.15 to 0.5) using the precisely controlled Pechini sol-gel method. XRD phase structure analysis and XPS composition and chemical state study were adopted for quality assurance of the compounds. Resistance and infrared reflectance of the samples were measured respectively with the help of the four probe technique in temperature range of 150 K to 380 K and an infrared spectrometer over a temperature range of 153 K to 544 K. Investigations showed a good correlation between these two measures approving the metal-insulator characteristic of all the samples. Calculation of the total normal emittance(ε(T)) of the compounds was innovatively simplified using the measured reflectivity data through the thermal irradiation theory for graybody. Moreover, the results showed that every x ratio fabricated through the precisely controlled Pechini method presented a unique ε(T) characteristic with a different metal-insulator transition temperature.
