Allocation of Mobile Chippers for a Concentrated Bioenergy Demand

Allocation of mobile chippers is a tactical problem of management in a bioenergy supply chain. It influences the entire supply cost of the wood chip since the transportation distance and the chipping productivity decide the transportation cost. Great and concentrated demands of woody biomass require multiple suppliers, and there should be the best allocation of mobile chippers which minimize the entire supply cost. This study aims to clarify better management of the supply chain consisting of multiple players for a great and concentrated demand for wood chip. The model was a supply chain for a typical biomass power plant with 5.8 MW capacity. Suppliers were assumed to select mobile chippers from two sizes, 140-kW and 353-kW. By the model simulation, it was clarified that the well-considered allocation of two different mobile chippers could reduce the entire supply cost less than the conventional system using a fixed chipper at the power plant. The best management was to use only the 353-kW chippers, and secondly to allocate the less productive chippers closer to the demand to prevent the incline of the transportation cost. However, the possible conflict was also specified as the increased cost of the suppliers using more productive chippers in the second best allocation strategy. This result emphasizes the necessity of resolving such conflict by making the collaborative relationship among stakeholders which has been pointed out by other researches as well to sustain the better condition of the supply chain.

Synchrotron radiation investigations of the Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^(2+),R^(3+) persistent luminescence materials

The electronic and defect energy level structure of polyerystalline Sr2MgSi2OT：Eu^2＋,R^3＋ persistent luminescence materials were studied with thermoluminescence and different synchrotron radiation spectroscopies （UV-VUV emission and excitation, X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy （XANES） and extended X-ray absorption f＇me structure （EXAFS））. Special attention was paid on the effect of the R3＋ co-dopants on the persistent luminescence properties of the materials. Theoretical calculations using the density functional theory （DFT） were carried out simultaneously with the experimental work. The experimental band gap energy （Eg） value of ca. 7.1 eV agreed very well with the DFT value of 6.7 eV. The variation of the Eg value was attempted to relate with the trap structure as well as with the different properties of the R3＋ co-dopants. The trap level energy distribution depended strongly on the R3＋ co-dopant except for the shallowest trap energy above the room temperature remaining practically the same, however. The different processes in the mechanism of persistent luminescence from Sr2MgSi2OT：Eu^2＋,R^3＋ were assembled and their contributions discussed.

Toremifene in the treatment of breast cancer

Although more widespread screening and routine adjuvant therapy has improved the outcome for breast cancer patients in recent years, there remains considerable scope for improving the efficacy, safety and tolerability of adjuvant therapy in the early stage disease and the treatment of advanced disease. Toremifene is a selective estrogen receptor modifier(SERM) that has been widely used for decades in hormone receptor positive breast cancer both in early and late stage disease. Its efficacy has been well established in nine prospective randomized phase Ⅲ trials compared to tamoxifen involving more than 5500 patients, as well as in several large uncontrolled and non-randomized studies. Although most studies show therapeutic equivalence between the two SERMs, some show an advantage for toremifene. Several meta-analyses have also confirmed that the efficacy of toremifene is at least as good as that of tamoxifen. In terms of safety and tolerability toremifene is broadly similar to tamoxifen although there is some evidence that toremifene is less likely to cause uterine neoplasms, serious vascular events andit has a more positive effect on serum lipids than does tamoxifen. Toremifene is therefore effective and safe in the treatment of breast cancer. It provides not only a useful therapeutic alternative to tamoxifen, but may bring specific benefits.

多相光催化是一种非常有效的降解各种水污染物的方法.本文以稀土(镝和镨)掺杂的TiO2为光催化剂,考察了制备条件对其物理性质和光催化性能的影响.采用溶胶-凝胶法和不同条件(反应温度450,550,650 oC;反应时间4,8,12 h)的固态反应法制备了TiO2样品.运用X射线衍射分析了该样品的晶相,发现只存在锐钛矿相,并得到Raman光谱的证实.同时采用扫描电镜观察了样品的结构和粒径;以BET法计算了其比表面积;运用紫外-可见光漫反射光谱测得了样品的带隙能量.通过测量紫外光照射下常用除草剂吡唑草胺的降解速率评价了样品的光催化活性,反应过程中吡唑草胺的浓度用高效液相色谱分析.结果表明,稀土掺杂使得TiO2吸收边红移,并提高了其光催化活性;制备时最优的固态反应条件为550 oC反应8 h.

Improvement of regional cerebral blood flow after oral intake of ranched-chain amino acids in patients with cirrhosis

AIM： To evaluate the effect of oral intake of branchedchain amino acids （BCAA） on brain perfusion in patients with liver cirrhosis. METHODS： Single photon emission computed tomography scans were performed in 43 patients with cirrhosis and in 15 age-matched healthy subjects. Twenty-nine out of forty-three patients were randomly treated with either BCAA granules or placebo, and single photon emission computed tomography was performed before and after the treatment. We measured the regional cerebral blood flow values using a threedimensional stereotaxic region of interest template. RESULTS： Cirrhotic patients had regions of significant hypoperfusion in the bilateral central （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.006 P〈0.01）, parietal （right P = 0.028, P〈0.05; left P = 0.009, P〈0.01）, angular （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.008, P〈0.01）, and left pericallosal segments （P = 0.038 P〈0.05） as compared with healthy subjects. A significant increase in cerebral perfusion was observed 70 min after the oral intake of BCAA in the angular （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05）, temporal （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P=0.038, P〈0.05）, pericallosal segments （right P = 0.025, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05） and left precentral （P = 0.044, P〈0.05）, parietal （P = 0.040, P〈0.05） and thalamus （P = 0.033, P〈0.05）. No significant change in perfusion was observed in the placebo group. CONCLUSION： Administration of BCAA rapidly improves cerebral perfusion.
