Since the discovery of the hydroformylation(oxo-synthesis or Roelen reaction)and the Reppe-reaction,the transition metal-catalyzed carbonylation reactions,providing versatile,facile,and even atom-economic methods for the selective incorporation of C=O functionality to various skeletons,have gained tremendous importance in synthetic organic chemistry from laboratories to industrial *** carbonylation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds,aromatic halides,triflates,etc.,in the presence of various nucleophiles has led the way to produce aldehydes,carboxylic acids,esters,amides,etc.,in the fine chemical ***,these protocols usually proceed in conventional,fossil-based,and usually toxic reaction ***,several attempts have been directed to developing efficient carbonylation methods in alternative,less harmful,non-fossil-based and even in renewable reaction *** this review,we overview the recent applications of alternative solvents such as water,biomass-based alcohols,γ-valerolactone(GVL),2-methyltetrahydrofuran(2-MeTHF),ionic liquids(ILs),deep eutectic solvents(DES),a.kyl levulinates,limonene,α-pinene,and dimethyl carbonate as well as fluorous media to improve efficiency,safety and environmentally benign nature of carbonylation protocols.

Selective area electron diffraction(SAED)patterns can provide valuable insight into the structure of a ***,the manual identification of collected patterns can be a significant bottleneck in the overall phase classification *** this work,we utilize the recent advances in computer vision and machine learning(ML)to automate the indexing of SAED *** performance of six different ML algorithms is demonstrated using metallic plutonium-zirconium *** most successful approach trained a neural network(NN)to make a classification of the phase and zone axis,and then utilized a second NN to synthesize multiple independent predictions of different tilts in a single sample to make an overall phase *** results demonstrate that automated SAED phase identification using ML is a viable route to accelerate materials characterization.

Using Lean Manufacturing(LM)tools in production processes is crucial for companies’economic,environmental,and social sustainability *** study shows a structural equation model(SEM)that shows the relationship between LM Tools like kaizen(kAI),Gemba(GEM),Value Stream Mapping(VSM)and key Performance Indicator(kPI)with Economic Sustainability(ECS).Seven hypotheses were evaluated with data from 179 responses to a questionnaire about the Mexican maquiladora industry,showing that these variables are *** a 95%confidence level,the model was evaluated using the partial least squares *** findings indicate that the relationships between kAI and GEM and kAI and VSM have the strongest relationship,followed by VSM and ECS;however,VSM has the strongest effect on *** on these findings,it is recommended that managers adopt a continuous improvement(kAI)approach based on working directly on the shop floor(GEM and VSM)to support their decisions regarding economic growth(ECS).

Immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy has dramatically improved patient prognosis,and thereby transformed the treatment in various cancer types including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)in the past *** antibodies that selectively inhibit programmed cell death-1(PD-1)activity has now become standard of care in the treatment of ESCC in metastatic settings,and has a high expectation to provide clinical benefit during perioperative ***,anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte–associated protein 4(CTLA-4)monoclonal antibody has also been approved in the treatment of recurrent/metastatic ESCC in combination with anti-PD-1 *** understanding of the existing evidence of immune-based treatments for ESCC,as well as recent clinical trials on various combinations with chemotherapy for different clinical settings including neoadjuvant,adjuvant,and metastatic diseases,may provide future prospects of ESCC treatment for better patient outcomes.

Relationship between Nonexercise Activity Thermogenesis and Calf Circumference in Older Women

Purpose: Frailty is a state of declined vitality of the body and mind with age in which life functions are impaired. In addition, there is a difference in the susceptibility of older women to frailty compared with that of older men. Therefore, assessing and encouraging physical activity in older adults before they become frail is essential. We aimed to clarify the relationship between calf circumference and body composition and assess the potential association between calf circumference and physical activity indices in older women. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 18 healthy older adults (age 69.0 ± 5.7 years). The physical characteristics, calf circumference, body composition, calf muscle thickness, and physical activity questionnaire that included items on exercise-related activity thermogenesis (EAT) and nonexercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) were assessed. The association between calf circumference and these additional measures was examined. Results: Positive and significant correlations were found between the calf circumference and body weight, body mass index (BMI), skeletal muscle mass, skeletal muscle mass index, calf muscle thickness, total questionnaire score, and NEAT score (r = 0.66 - 0.87). However, no significant correlations were observed between the calf circumference and EAT scores. Conclusion: Calf circumference in older women may reflect NEAT activity. Improving NEAT activity is an important health-promoting factor in older women.

Toremifene in the treatment of breast cancer

Although more widespread screening and routine adjuvant therapy has improved the outcome for breast cancer patients in recent years, there remains considerable scope for improving the efficacy, safety and tolerability of adjuvant therapy in the early stage disease and the treatment of advanced disease. Toremifene is a selective estrogen receptor modifier(SERM) that has been widely used for decades in hormone receptor positive breast cancer both in early and late stage disease. Its efficacy has been well established in nine prospective randomized phase Ⅲ trials compared to tamoxifen involving more than 5500 patients, as well as in several large uncontrolled and non-randomized studies. Although most studies show therapeutic equivalence between the two SERMs, some show an advantage for toremifene. Several meta-analyses have also confirmed that the efficacy of toremifene is at least as good as that of tamoxifen. In terms of safety and tolerability toremifene is broadly similar to tamoxifen although there is some evidence that toremifene is less likely to cause uterine neoplasms, serious vascular events andit has a more positive effect on serum lipids than does tamoxifen. Toremifene is therefore effective and safe in the treatment of breast cancer. It provides not only a useful therapeutic alternative to tamoxifen, but may bring specific benefits.

The crystal and electronic structure of the Eu^2＋ doped and defect containing Sr2MgSi2O7 persistent luminescence material were studied using the density functional theory （DFT）. The defects may act as energy storage or even luminescence quenching centres in these materials, however their role is very difficult to confirm experimentally. The probability of vacancy formation was studied using the total energy of the defect containing host. Significant structural modifications in the environment of the isolated defects, especially the strontium vacancy, as well as defect aggregates were found. The experimental band gap energy of Sr2MgSi2O7 was well reproduced by the calculations. The defect induced electron traps close to the host＇s conduction band were found to act as energy storage sites contributing to its efficient persistent luminescence. The interactions between the defects were found to modify both the Eu^2＋ 4f^7 ground state energy as well as the trap structure. The effect of charge compensation induced by the rare earth co-doping on the defect structure and energy storage properties of the persistent luminescence materials was discussed.

Synthesis of malachite@clay nanocomposite was successfully carried out for the removal of cationic（Methylene Blue,MB） and anionic dyes（Congo Red,CR） from synthetic *** was characterized by TEM,SEM,FT-IR,EDS analysis and zeta *** analysis indicated that the particle diameter of nanocomposite was in the range of 14 to23 *** important parameters *** time,concentration of dyes,nanocomposite dosage,temperature and solution pH were optimized to achieve maximum adsorption *** the case of MB,removal decreased from 99.82%to 93.67%while for CR,removal decreased from 88.55%to 75.69%on increasing dye concentration from 100 to 450 mg/*** study confirmed the higher removal of CR in acidic range while MB removal was higher in a.kaline *** study revealed the applicability of pseudo-second-order model for the adsorption of both *** values of AG0 for both systems suggested the feasibility of dye removal and support for spontaneous adsorption of CR and MB on *** showed 277.77 and 238.09 mg/g Langmuir adsorption capacity for MB and CR *** of dyes from the dye loaded nanocomposite was easily carried out with *** results indicate that the prepared malachite@clay nanocomposite is an efficient adsorbent with high adsorption capacity for the aforementioned dyes.

The electronic structure of the strontium aluminate （SrAl2O4：Eu^2＋） materials was studied with a combined experimental and theo- retical approach. The UV-VUV synchrotron radiation was applied in the experimental study while the electronic structure of the non-optimized and optimized crystal structure were investigated theoretically by using the density functional theory. The structure of the valence and conduction bands as well as the band gap energy of the material together with the position of the Eu2＋ 4f7 85712 ground state were calculated. The calculated band gap energy （6.4 eV） agreed well with the experimental value of 6.6 eV. The valence band consisted mainly of oxygen states whereas the bottom of the conduction band of strontium states. In agreement with the experimental results, the calculated 4f7 8S7r2 ground state of Eu2＋ lies in the energy gap of the host. The position of the 4f7 ground state depended on the Coulomb repulsion strength. The position of the 4f7 ground state with respect to the valence and conduction bands was discussed using theoretical and experimental evidence available.
