Phenological study of congeneric Myrcia species and Clethra scabra in wetland and drained habitats in a Montane Forest

Although important,phenological studies comparing congeneric species or the same species growing in different habitats are still scarce for the ***,we integrate phylogeny,ecology and biometeorology to verify whether the phenophases of congeneric species Myrcia laruotteana and Myrcia amazonica or Clethra scabra differ when their populations inhabit wetland and drained habitats and to determine what abiotic factors affect the vegetative and reproductive phenophases of these species in distinct habitat *** collected data on phenological events of 80 trees for 1 year in Itacolomi State Park,Brazil,and related them to abiotic local *** to our expectation,the phenophases of the congeneric species did not differ between habitats,but the reproductive phenophases of *** did and was greater in drained *** of *** were affected by the depth of the water table and maximum temperature in the wetland ***,precipitation,maximum temperature and relative humidity influenced Myrcia and Clethra in the drained *** differences between *** populations suggest that this species is phenotypically plastic and can present distinct phenophases depending on the habitat it *** the other hand,the congeneric Myrcia species may have similar phenophases in distinct habitats because of their shared similarities during their *** study provides a better understanding of the ecology of these species and their adaptations to different abiotic *** of this nature are important in a changing world and can inform strategies for adaptive management.

Cr（V）involvementin the toxicity pathway of testicular damage

AIM:The functional integrity of the blood-testis barrier (BTB) in male mice exposed to Cr(V) was studied in order to clarify the mechanism underlying testicular injury.METHODS:Adult male mice were subcutaneously injected repeated doses of 8.02 micromol (0.5 ml) of Cr/*** for 5 days. Animals receiving a similar volume of bis(hydroxyethyl)-aminotris(hydroxymethyl)methane buffer (BT) were used as controls. The animals were sacrificed on day 6 and small fragments of seminiferous tubules, approximately 8-10 mm length, were incised and sutured at both ends. They were exposed in vitro to horseradish peroxidase-containing culture medium for 10 minutes. Tissues were then fixed and processed for ultrastructural studies.RESULTS:Controls and Cr(V)-treated group resulted in the uptake of the tracer by Sertoli cells. However, the major finding consisted in the permeability of the BTB only in the Cr(V)-group, as evidenced by the presence of the tracer within the junctions between the neighbouring Sertoli cells.CONCLUSION:The BTB is disrupted in mice submitted to Cr(V). The permeability of the BTB is a crucial feature to be investigated for the understanding of lesions within the seminiferous tubule.

As photovoltaic energy increasingly penetrates in power systems,transmission system operators have started to request its participation in providing ancillary *** of the demanded services is the power ramp-rate control(PRRC),which attempts to limit the power ramps produced by intermittent irradiance *** order to achieve the desired objective,solutions based on storage systems or modifying the maximum power point tracking(MPPT)in perturb and observe(P&O)algorithms are commonly *** starting point in PRRC is the determination of the instantaneous power ramprate,and different methods have been proposed in the literature for its ***,the accuracy and computational speed of existing procedures can be improved,which may be critical in situations with rapid irradiance *** this paper,a decoupled photovoltaic power ramp-rate calculation method is presented,in which the effect of variable irradiance and the P&O algorithm are computed *** proposed method has been theoretically demonstrated and tested through simulation and experimental *** results show that it can improve the previous methods in terms of accuracy and computation *** validation with hardware-inthe-loop demonstrates the suitability of the proposed method for real-time applications,even in presence of noisy measurements.

Higher education institutions have an essential role in *** are key agents in the education of future leaders that will contribute to the successful United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)*** geography of SDGs this implementation is very heterogeneous,but it is clear that higher education institutions contribute decisively to creating a mindset that facilitates the dissemination of SDGs *** perspective paper analyses the impacts of higher education on sustainability and the challenges and barriers as-sociated with this *** education contributes decisively to the SDGs implementation,but especially to Goal 1(end poverty in all its forms everywhere),Goal 3(ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages),Goal 5(gender equality),Goal 8(decent work and economic growth),Goal 12(responsible consumption and production),Goal 13(climate change)and Goal 16(peace,justice and strong institutions).As a transfor-mational agent,the higher education sector has a tremendous impact on students’habit and contribution to a prosperous ***,to establish the required change in education,sustainability principles need to be at the heart of higher institutions strategy(e.g.,curricula,modus operandi)and is key to be incorporated in the organisational *** by leading by example,the external influence in the society will be possible(e.g.,implementing SDGs key aspects such as gender quality,reduce waste reduction and energy consumption).For this to be a reality,different communication methods with students are needed(e.g.,different student academic levels).Nevertheless,critical challenges need to be tackled in the institutions inside and outside the institution environment,such as incorporating sustainability principles,political environment and stakeholders’interest.

Human osteoclast formation and resorptive function on biomineralized collagen

Biomineralized collagen composite materials pose an intriguing alternative to current synthetic bone graft substitutes by offering a biomimetic composition that closely resembles native *** hypothesize that this composite can undergo cellular resorption and remodeling similar to natural *** investigate the formation and activity of human osteoclasts cultured on biomineralized collagen and pure collagen membranes in comparison to cortical bone *** monocytes/macrophages from peripheral blood differentiate into multinucleated,tartrate-resistant alkaline phosphatase(TRAP)-positive osteoclast-like cells on all *** cells form clear actin rings on cortical bone,but not on biomineralized collagen or pure collagen *** form resorption pits in cortical bone,resulting in higher calcium ion concentration in cell culture medium;however,osteoclast resorption of biomineralized collagen and collagen membranes does not measurably *** of osteoclast enzymes-TRAP,carbonic anhydrase II(CA-II),and cathepsin-K(CTS-K)-is similar on all substrates,despite phenotypic differences in actin ring formation and *** mesh-like structure,relatively low stiffness,and lack of RGD-containing binding domains are likely the factors responsible for preventing formation of stable actin rings on and resorption of(biomineralized)collagen *** insight helps to guide further research toward the optimized design of biomineralized collagen composites as a more biomimetic bone-graft substitute.

The inception of a Paleotethyan magmatic arc in Iberia

This paper presents a compilation of recent U-Pb （zircon） ages of late Carboniferous-early Permian （LC EP） calc-alkaline batholiths from lberia, together with a petrogenetic interpretation of magma generation based on comparisons with Mesozoic and Tertiary Cordilleran batholiths and experimental melts. Zircon U-Pb ages distributed over the range ca. 315-280 Ma, indicate a linkage between calc-alkaline magmatism, Iberian orocline generation and Paleotethys subduction. It is also shown that Iberian LC-EP calcalkaline batholiths present unequivocal subduction-related features comparable with typical Cordilleran batholiths of the Pacific Americas active margin, although geochemical features were partially obscured by local modifications of magmas at the level of emplacement by country rock assimilation. When and how LC-EP calc-alkaline batholiths formed in Iberia is then discussed, and a new and somewhat controversial interpretation for their sources and tectonic setting （plume-assisted relamination） is suggested. The batholiths are proposed to have formed during the subduction of the Paleotethys oceanic plate （Pangaea self-subduction） and, consequently, they are unrelated to Variscan collision. The origin of the Iberian batholiths is related to the Eurasian active margin and probably represents the inception of a Paleotethvan arc in the core of Pangaea.

Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is the most aggressive and common malig-nant primary brain *** with GBM often have poor prognoses,with a median survival of∼15 *** understanding of the molecular biology of central nervous system tumors has led to modifications in their classifications,the most recent of which classified these tumors into new categories and made some changes in their nomenclature and grading *** review aims to give a panoramic view of the last 3 years’findings in glioblastoma characterization,its heterogeneity,and current advances in its *** molecular parameters have been used to achieve an accurate and personalized characterization of glioblastoma in patients,including epigenetic,genetic,transcriptomic and metabolic features,as well as age-and sex-related patterns and the involvement of several noncoding RNAs in glioblastoma ***-like neural stem cells and outer radial glial-like cells from the subven-tricular zone have been proposed as agents involved in GBM of IDH-wildtype origin,but this remains *** metabolism is characterized by upregulation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway,promotion of the gly-colytic flux,maintenance of lipid storage,and other *** metabolism also contributes to glioblastoma’s resistance to conventional *** heterogeneity,a hallmark of GBM,has been shown to affect the genetic expresion,modulation of metabolic pathways,and immune system ***’s aggressive invasion potential is modulated by cell-to-cell crosstalk within the tumor microenvironment and altered expressions of specific genes,such as ANXA2,GBP2,FN1,PHIP,and ***,the rising number of active clinical trials illustrates the efforts to identify new targets and drugs to treat this *** is still relevant for research purposes,given the amount of ongoing clinical trials based on this strategy to treat GBM,and neoantigen and nuclei

An Optimized Divide-and-Conquer Algorithm for the Closest-Pair Problem in the Planar Case

We present an engineered version of the divide-and-conquer algorithm for finding the closest pair of points, within a given set of points in the XY-plane. For this version of the algorithm we show that only two pairwise comparisons are required in the combine step, for each point that lies in the 25-wide vertical slab. The correctness of the algorithm is shown for all Minkowski distances with p ≥ 1. We also show empirically that, although the time complexity of the algorithm is still O（n lgn）, the reduction in the total number of comparisons leads to a significant reduction in the total execution time, for inputs with size sufficiently large.
