Compelling evidence derived from clinical and experimental research has demonstrated the crucial contribution of chronic inflammation in the development of neoplasms,including gallbladder cancer.In this regard,data derived from clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated that the receptor of advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)/AGEs axis plays an important role in the onset of a crucial and long-lasting inflammatory milieu,thus supporting tumor growth and development.AGEs are formed in biological systems or foods,and food-derived AGEs,also known as dietary AGEs are known to contribute to the systemic pool of AGEs.Once they bind to RAGE,the activation of multiple and crucial signaling pathways are triggered,thus favoring the secretion of several proinflammatory cytokines also involved in the promotion of gallbladder cancer invasion and migration.In the present review,we aimed to highlight the relevance of the association between high dietary AGEs intakes and high risk for gallbladder cancer,and emerging data supporting that dietary intervention to reduce gallbladder cancer risk is a very attractive approach that deserves much more research efforts.

采用文献计量学的方法,对运动表现分析的历史、主要教材和主要期刊论文刊载情况进行简要的概述。结果显示运动表现分析于20世纪70—80年代开始在运动科学领域站稳脚跟,90年代后期至今则进入了高速平稳发展期。作为一个学科门类,运动表现分析拥有较为完善的学科体系和人才培养机制,同时拥有权威的教材和广泛的教师与学生群体基础。作为一个科研领域,运动表现分析拥有庞大的、逐步增长的论文、研究者数量和被引用次数,但该领域内活跃的作者、期刊、研究机构、国家(或地区)绝大多数都集中于欧美和大洋洲等经济发达地区。同时运动表现分析领域的研究范围覆盖了绝大多数奥运会比赛项目。

目的:1.探究如何在有限的室外空间下简便地计算换气质量;2.建立利用采光井进行建筑通风的应用模型。创新点:1.案例研究评估的成熟方法论应用;2.得到采光井对室内空气通风促进度的速算图表。方法:1.采用风洞分析的两步确认法;2.对实际采光井模型进行计算流体动力学应用。结论:1.高长比小于3的采光井表现出了不错的换气能力;2.对空气质量要求更高的居住空间(如卧室和起居室)而言,室内通风口必须被设在高度低于24米的采光井的上半部分或者其他采光井中距离顶部12米以内的位置。

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is recognized as a serious public health concern with a considerable impact on human life,long-term health expenditures,and substantial health losses.In this context,the use of dietary polyphenols to prevent and manage T2DM is widely documented.These dietary compounds exert their beneficial effects through several actions,including the protection of pancreatic islet β-cell,the antioxidant capacities of these molecules,their effects on insulin secretion and actions,the regulation of intestinal microbiota,and their contribution to ameliorate diabetic complications,particularly those of vascular origin.In the present review,we intend to highlight these multifaceted actions and the molecular mechanisms by which these plant-derived secondary metabolites exert their beneficial effects on type 2 diabetes patients.

A couple of decades ago natural phenomena began to be approached from a comprehensive and transdisciplinary point of view, as it was understood that living beings and their environments are not linear but complex. There is no doubt that this perspective of visualizing complexity and working inter‐ and trans‐disciplinarily has to be applied. The reflection on the theoretical observation (i. e., meta‐observation) involved in the concept of poly‐contexturality is the framework in which a theory of complex systems is possible, which in turn enables an observation that oscillates (a concept of chaos theory) between models structured in a hierarchical order (normally linked to a logical‐deductive formalization) and models structured in hetero‐hierarchy. And this would allow this reflection to be done in a formalized language that does not follow either the principles of the Aristotelian logic or the postulates of the Kantian transcendental reflection. It is precisely this liberation from the dictates of mono‐contextural logic what paves the way to an observation of complexity, in which one or the other language is used to model the states of things, such as the epistemological problems of molecular biology or the social systems. And—-what is gaining relevance—-it also paves the way to a true transdisciplinary meta‐observation, since each discipline chooses its own contexture and only the use of poly‐contexturality makes it possible to formulate transdisciplinary relationships within the framework of such meta‐logic.

Compelling evidence supports the crucial role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)axis activation in many clinical entities.Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,there is an increasing concern about the risk and handling of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection in inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders,such as inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).However,clinical data raised during pandemic suggests that IBD patients do not have an increased risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 infection or develop a more severe course of infection.In the present review,we intend to highlight how two potentially important contributors to the inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 infection in IBD patients,the RAGE axis activation as well as the cross-talk with the renin-angiotensin system,are dampened by the high expression of soluble forms of both RAGE and the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE)2.The soluble form of RAGE functions as a decoy for its ligands,and soluble ACE2 seems to be an additionally attenuating contributor to RAGE axis activation,particularly by avoiding the transactivation of the RAGE axis that can be produced by the virus-mediated imbalance of the ACE/angiotensin II/angiotensin II receptor type 1 pathway.

Light polarization control is a key factor in modern photonics.Recent advances in surface plasmon manipulation have introduced the prospect of more compact and more efficient devices for this purpose.However,the current plasmonic-based polarization optics remain much larger than the wavelength of light,which limits the design degrees of freedom.Here,we present a plasmonic traveling-wave nanoantenna using a gold-coated helical carbon nanowire end-fired with a dipolar aperture nanoantenna.Our nonresonant helical nanoantenna enables tunable polarization control by swirling surface plasmons on the subwavelength scale and taking advantage of the optical spin–orbit interaction.Four closely packed helical traveling-wave nanoantennas(HTNs)are demonstrated to locally convert an incoming light beam into four beams of tunable polarizations and intensities,with the ability to impart different polarization states to the output beams in a controllable way.Moreover,by near-field coupling four HTNs of opposite handedness,we demonstrate a subwavelength waveplate-like structure providing a degree of freedom in polarization control that is unachievable with ordinary polarization optics and current metamaterials.

Compelling pieces of evidence derived from both clinical and experimental research has demonstrated the crucial role of the receptor for advanced-glycation end-products(RAGE)in orchestrating a plethora of proinflammatory cellular responses leading to many of the complications and end-organ damages reported in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).During the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,many clinical reports have pointed out that DM increases the risk of COVID-19 complications,hospitalization requirements,as well as the overall severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 case-fatality rate.In the present review,we intend to focus on how the basal activation state of the RAGE axis in common preexisting conditions in DM patients such as endothelial dysfunction and hyperglycemia-related prothrombotic phenotype,as well as the contribution of RAGE signaling in lung inflammation,may then lead to the increased mortality risk of COVID-19 in these patients.Additionally,the crosstalk between the RAGE axis with either another severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 receptor molecule different of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 or the renin-angiotensin system imbalance produced by viral infection,as well as the role of this multi-ligand receptor on the obesity-associated lowgrade inflammation in the higher risk for severe illness reported in diabetes patients with COVID-19,are also discussed.

Anterior tibiofemoral dislocation after total knee arthroplasty is an extremely rare and serious event.Amongst English-published papers,we found only 15 relevant cases,3 of which presented vascular complications.This manuscript aims to present a 77-year-old woman with a TC-Plus(Smith&Nephew)cruciate-retaining type in first time of knee prosthesis,who suffered an anterior tibiofemoral dislocation and were admitted to our hospital.The clinical management and outcome were evaluated.Furthermore,a review of literature was performed.We concluded that early detection and surgical intervention of vascular injury is the key in the survival of the limbs.If there is still knee instability after acute recovery,it seems that revision surgery with constrained total knee arthroplasty can bring about good clinical and functional results.

AIM: To explore the association between TCF7L2 rs12255372 and rs7903146 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) and gastric cancer risk in Venezuelan patients.METHODS: We performed a case-control study including 122 paraffin-embedded archived intestinaltype gastric cancer samples and 129 biopsies obtained by superior endoscopy from chronic gastritis patients. Gastric cancer samples were classified according the degree of carcinoma differentiation. Genomic DNA was extracted from tissues, and the two SNPs of TCF7L2 gene(rs12255372 and rs7903146) were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism reactions. Multiple regression analysis with adjustments for age and gender were performed and best-fitting models of inheritance were determined.RESULTS: After adjusting for age and sex the TCF7L2 rs7903146 TT genotype was associated with gastric cancer risk under the recessive genetic model(OR = 3.11, 95%CI: 1.22-7.92, P = 0.017). We further investigated the distribution of rs12255372 and rs7903146 genotypes according gastric cancer stratified by degree of differentiation, and we observed that carriers of rs7903146 T allele(CT + TT vs CC) had a significantly increased risk of moderate/well differentiated gastric cancer(dominant model, OR = 2.55, 95%CI: 1.35-4.80, P = 0.004), whereas the rs7903146 TT genotype was associated with poorly differentiated gastric cancer in the recessive model(OR = 3.65, 95%CI: 1.25-10.62, P = 0.018). We did not find association between rs12255372 SNP and the susceptibility of developing gastric cancer. CONCLUSION: TCF7L2 rs7903146 polymorphism is associated with gastric cancer risk in the Venezuelan population, and could be related to determine the degree of differentiation of tumor cells.
