Twitter Sentiment at the Hospital and Patient Level as a Measure of Pediatric Patient Experience

Although pediatric cancer survival rates have improved, cancer is still the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. With nearly 16,000 new diagnoses each year of children having an average age of six years old, there is still much to be done to improve survival rates among children diagnosed with cancer. Additionally, clinical outcomes can be greatly improved by first understanding the patient perspective and, consequently, there is a need to understand the pediatric cancer patient experience. Interest in the analysis of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures, including those specific to patient experience, has grown in recent years as attempts are made to understand and assess latent (i.e., unobserved) traits such as quality of life. While most traditional PRO measures involve lengthy and costly surveys that are limited in scope, posts on social media platforms are frequently lauded as more authentic, unbiased measures of patient experience. While many previous studies have utilized Twitter as a source for patient experience data that is not easily captured by traditional PROs, very few studies have examined the use of Twitter data to explore and better understand the experience of pediatric cancer patients specifically. Lexicon-based sentiment analysis of Twitter data was used both to examine the pediatric cancer patient experience as well as to compare the attitudes, perceptions, and overall impressions of individuals with St. Jude experiences to those with more general experiences. Results indicated that patients reflected on their care with more relative negativity when speaking of experiences other than St. Jude. While there were some notable differences between the two comparison groups, the sentiment of both was still mostly positive. Distinctive melt activity and chromite mineralization in Luobusa and Purang ophiolites, southern Tibet: constraints from trace element compositions of chromite and olivine

To investigate the factors controlling the mineralization in ophiolites we systematically compared the petrology and mineral compositions of the harzburgites/lherzolites, dunites and chromitites in the Luobusa and Purang ophiolites. Generally, the petrological features and trace element compositions of chromite and olivine in peridotite and chromitite are distinctly different between the two *** Luobusa, boninitic melts are inferred to have interacted with the harzburgites and modified the distributions of some trace elements(e.g., Ni, Mn and V) in chromite and olivine. The subsequently formed dunites and chromitites experienced significant elemental exchange. In contrast, the Purang ophiolite contains a wider range of chromitite compositions and records diverse melt activities, such as the growth of relatively abundant secondary clinopyroxene. The metasomatic melts were enriched in Al and depleted in Si, Na and highly incompatible trace elements(e.g., Nb, Zr). Such melts resemble MORBlike melts proposed in the literature but are assumed to be more hydrous than typical MORB because of presence of hydrous minerals. The parental magmas of the Purang dunites and intermediate chromitites are inferred to be compositionally intermediate between boninitic and MORB-like melts. In addition,the more refractory nature of the Luobusa harzburgites facilitated a high Cr concentration gradient with the interacting melts, making it easier to increase Cr in the melts. Crystallization of clinopyroxene and amphibole in the Purang ophiolite accommodated significant amounts of Cr and water, respectively,and negatively affected Cr concentration and chromite crystallization. The concentration of chromite to form chromitites requires the presence of focused melt channels.

Correlates of Self-Assessed Wellness

Background: This study was concerned with correlates of self-assessed health and wellness on ten dimensions including emotional, financial and physical health. All 10 self-ratings loaded on one factor with high internal reliability. Method: In all 506 adult participants, completed short measures of the bright side, Big Five traits (TIPI) and a short measure of the dark side, personality disorders (PID-5-BF). Results: Correlations and regressions suggested that wellness was related to sex, education and religious beliefs as well as four of five bright- and dark-side traits. Being Sanguine was most positively, and Choleric most negatively, associated with subjective wellness. Detachment and Negative Affect were the highest dark-side correlates. The final regression suggested that over a third of the variance in subjective wellness could be explained by four bright- and two dark-side factors. Conclusions: Personality factors, especially instability and negative affectivity, play a crucial role in all aspects of wellness. Implications and limitations are acknowledged.

Background Cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)is inversely associated with mortality in apparently healthy subjects and in some clinical populations,but evidence for the association between CRF and all-cause and/or cardiovascular disease(CVD)mortality in patients with established CVD is *** study aimed to quantify this *** We searched for prospective cohort studies that measured CRF with cardiopulmonary exercise testing in patients with CVD and that examined all-cause and CVD mortality with at least 6 months of *** hazard ratios(HRs)were calculated using random-effect inverse-variance *** Data were obtained from 21 studies and included 159,352 patients diagnosed with CVD(38.1%female).Pooled HRs for all-cause and CVD mortality comparing the highest *** category of CRF were 0.42(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.28–0.61)and 0.27(95%CI:0.16–0.48),*** HRs per 1 metabolic equivalent(1-MET)increment were significant for all-cause mortality(HR=0.81;95%CI:0.74–0.88)but not for CVD mortality(HR=0.75;95%CI:0.48–1.18).Coronary artery disease patients with high CRF had a lower risk of all-cause mortality(HR=0.32;95%CI:0.26–0.41)than did their unfit *** 1-MET increase was associated with lower all-cause mortality risk among coronary artery disease patients(HR=0.83;95%CI:0.76–0.91)but not lower among those with heart failure(HR=0.69;95%CI:0.36–1.32).Conclusion A better CRF was associated with lower risk of all-cause mortality and *** study supports the use of CRF as a powerful predictor of mortality in this population.

Geological Evidence does not Support a Shallow Origin for Diamonds in Ophiolite

Farré-de-Pablo et al.(2018)report a new occurrence of in situ microdiamonds enclosed in chromite from ophiolitic chromitite pods hosted in the Tehuitzingo serpentinite of southern *** discovery enlarges the number of occurrence of the ophiolite-hosted microdiamonds to 7 countries in the world,including India(Das,2015,2017),Albania(Xiong et al.,2017;Wu et al.,2017),Turkey(Lian et al.,2017),Myanmar(Chen et al.,2018),Russia(Yang et al.,2015),and China(Bai et al.,1993;Xu et al.,2009).The microdiamonds occur in ophiolitic podiform chromitites and peridotites,and are generally interpreted as UHP phases formed at pressures>4 GPa(Yang et al.,2014;Griffin et al.,2016;Das et al.,2017).However,Farré-de-Pablo et al.(2018)conclude that the Tehuitzingo diamonds were formed under low-temperature and low-pressure conditions during serpentinization,which challenges the current knowledge of diamond ***,we discuss several lines of evidence that do not support the authors’conclusion.

Rural transformation:Cherry growing on the Guanzhong Plain, China and the Adelaide Hills, South Australia

This paper echoes a tradition in agricultural geography by focusing on a single crop:cherries. It illustrates how developments associated with globalisation and growing urban markets are re-shaping rural areas. The interplay between global and local is investigated in two different contexts. A Chinese example reflects transformations affecting the countryside following national economic reforms. Focusing on the hinterland of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province, it examines farmers' responses to the changing socio-political context and the rising size and wealth of the local market. Individual initiatives backed by government support have spawned localised concentrations of cherry growing and increased horticultural ***-based tourism is creating new relationships between farmers and consumers, with farms becoming more diversified and multifunctional. The second example is the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, where cherry growing is increasingly combined with direct sales to consumers and gastronomic tourism. The paper addresses contrasts and similarities between the two examples in the interplay between global and local, and a ‘multifunctional transition' in farming. Concluding remarks include reference to new economic links forged between China and Australia through relaxations on cherry imports to China and new patterns of Chinese foreign direct investment into Australian cherry production. A research agenda for future research is suggested.

Vibrational Spectroscopy of Pain Relievers: Traditional and Remote Raman Techniques

The application of vibrational spectroscopy in the pharmaceutical industry is widely investigated, from the quality assurance of the product during the production process control to the final products’ quality control and the authentication of products on the markets. This study focuses on non-contact and noninvasive detection and identification of pain-relievers at 1-5 meters standoff distances. The specimens analyzed include standard laboratory-grade active ingredients and commercially available pain relievers in powder, solid and liquid forms. All the remote measurements captured revealed the Raman signatures of the specimens, with varying peak intensities. To correlate the band intensities captured with the standoff distances between the laser source and the specimens, the intensity ratios of the two prominent peaks of the laboratory grade reference active ingredient (1607 and 1319 cm-1) normalized with 1319 cm-1 are used. The results of the study suggest the viability of standoff Raman spectroscopy for routine monitoring and identification of pharma-ceuticals, including counterfeit pain relievers.

Factors influencing the natural history of HIV-1 infection

The natural history of HIV is defined as the untreated progression from the time of HIV transmission to death. The typical course of infection is characterized by three phases： acute or primary infection phase, the asymptomatic phase, and AIDS. Primary infection is often accompanied by a symptomatic acute retroviral syndrome starting 2-3 weeks after transmission and lasting an additional 2-4 weeks. The asymptomatic phase, in contrast, is long with a duration that varies widely. While there is little consensus on how to divide patients based on their duration of asymptomatic phase, multiple clinical groups have been described in the literature including rapid progressors, typical progressors, long-term nonprogressors, and elite controllers. Approximately 5% to 15% of asymptomatic subjects considered as rapid progressors experience a sharp decline in CD4^＋ T cell counts progressing to AIDS within 2 to 5 years.

Evaluation of outcomes reported in randomized controlled trials for herbal remedies for adults with chronic hepatitis C

Background:Herbal remedies have been widely utilized in treating chronic hepatitis C (CHC) *** appropriate outcomes to reflect both beneficial and harmful effects is a crucial step in designing randomized controlled trials (RCTs).This study evaluated the outcomes reported in RCTs on herbal remedies for CHC with comparison to the core outcomes recommended by the Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group (CHBG),to check the consistency of the outcomes and to provide recommendation for future ***:A systematic literature search was conducted in Western and Chinese databases to identify RCTs on herbal remedies for adults with *** each trial,all the outcomes reported in the results section were *** between trial outcomes and CHBG core outcomes were evaluated and summarized with descriptive ***:A total of 116 RCTs involving 9154 participants were included;27 outcomes were *** reported outcomes included alanine aminotransferase (64 trials,55.2%),adverse events (58 trials,50.0%),and end-of-treatment virological response (50 trials,43.1%).All trials indicated that the herbal remedies under investigation had a positive effect and was markedly more effective than the *** half of the trials reported that the combination of herbal medicine and antiviral drugs could ameliorate adverse *** few trials reported primary core outcomes relating survival and quality of *** most frequently reported core outcomes are non-serious adverse events (54 trials,46.6%),viral response (27 trials,23.3%),and biochemical response (24 trials,20.7%).Conclusion:The variation and inconsistency in trial outcomes impedes research synthesis efforts,and indicate the need for comparable outcomes through the development of core outcome sets in *** low concordance of outcome reporting could be improved by following CHBG core outcomes recommendation.

Poaching as well as loss of habitat and prey are identified as causes of tiger population *** some studies have examined habitat requirements and prey availability,few studies have quantified cause-specific mortality of *** used cumulative incidence functions(CIFs)to quantify cause-specific mortality rates of tigers,expanding and refining earlier studies to assess the potential impact of a newly emerging *** quantify changes in tiger mortality over time,we re-examined data first collected by Goodrich et al.(2008;study period 1:1992–2004)as well as new telemetry data collected since January 2005(study period 2:2005–2012)using a total of 57 tigers(27 males and 30 females)monitored for an average of 747 days(range 26–4718 days).Across the entire study period(1992 to 2012)we found an estimated average annual survival rate of 0.75 for all tigers *** was the primary cause of mortality during both study periods,followed by suspected poaching,distemper and natural/unknown *** 2005,poaching mortality has remained relatively constant and,if combined with suspected poaching,may account for a loss of 17–19%of the population each *** distemper virus(CDV)may be an additive form of mortality to the population,currently accounting for an additional 5%.Despite this relatively new source of mortality,poaching remains the main threat to Amur tiger survival and,therefore,population growth.
