Purpose: To assess the growth hormone(GH) response to the Wingate anaerobic test(WAn T) among children with short stature and suspected GH deficiency. We hypothesized that the GH response to the WAn T would be similar to the GH response to a commonly used pharmacologic provocation ***: Ten children(6 males and 4 females, age range 9.0–14.9 years) participated in the study. Each participant performed 2 tests: a standard all-out WAn T, cycling for 30 s against constant resistance, and a standardized pharmacologic test(clonidine or glucagon). Blood samples for GH were collected before and 10, 30, 45, and 60 min after the beginning of exercise. In addition, we collected pre-and post-exercise blood lactate ***: There was a significant increase in GH levels after the WAn T, yet in 9 of 10 participants, this increase was below the threshold for GH sufficiency. Peak GH after the WAn T was significantly lower compared to the pharmacologic GH provocation tests(with 9 of 10 demonstrating GH-sufficient response).Conclusion: The traditional WAn T cannot be used as a GH provocation test. Further research is needed to develop anaerobic exercise protocols sufficient to promote GH secretion.

AIM Influence of chronic hyperglycemia on chemical coding of enteric neurons in stomach using pig as a model for human diabetic *** Ten pigs were divided into two groups: diabetic(D group,n = 5) and control(C group,n = 5). Pigs constituting the experimental group were given streptozotocin(150 mg/kg). Animals were euthanized six weeks after the induction of diabetes. The samples of stomach were collected from animals of both groups. The cryostat sections were processed for double immunofluorescence staining using primary antisera directed towards pan-neuronal marker(Hu C/D) proteins and/or neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase(n NOS),vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP) and galanin(GAL). RESULTS In the control group in the myenteric ganglia(MG) of the corpus we have noted 22.28% ± 1.19% of n NOS positive neurons,while in diabetic group we have found 40.74% ± 2.22% of n NOS immunoreactive perikarya(increase by 82.85 %). In turn in the pylorus we have observed 15.91% ± 0.58% n NOS containing neurons in control animals and 35.38% ± 1.54% in the diabetes group(increase by 122.37%). In the MG of the antrum and submucosal ganglion(SG) in the corpus hyperglycemia did not cause statistically significant changes. With regard to VIP-positive cell bodies in the antrum MG in the control animals we have noted 18.38 ± 1.39% and 40.74% ± 1.77% in the experimental group(increase by 121.65%). While in the corpus we have observed 23.20% ± 0.23% in the control and 30.93% ± 0.86% in the diabetes group(increase by 33.31%). In turn in the pylorus VIP positive cells bodies constituted 23.64% ± 1.56% in the control group and 31.20% ± 1.10% in the experimental group(increase by 31.97%). In the submucosal ganglion in the corpus we have noted 43.61% ± 1.06% in the control animals and 37.00% ± 1.77% in the experimental group(decrease by 15.15%). The composition of Fusarium species in wheat husks and grains in south-eastern Poland

Fusarium populations were investigated on 53 samples of wheat grains and husks collected approximately three weeks before harvest in 53 wheat fields in south-eastern Poland. A limited area of sample collection was chosen intentionally to avoid the effect of climate and weather variability. The study was conducted to assess the occurrence of 13 Fusarium species using species-specific PCR assays separately on grains and husks of winter wheat. The obtained data suggest that husks could take a protective role of wheat grain against Fusarium spp. The incidence of Fusarium species decreased in grains vs. husks from 29 to 100%. While Fusarium species were present in husks at 11.32% and less, they were absent in the grain. The presence of Fusarium species on husks is inversely proportional to the percentage reduction of Fusarium spp. in grain. There was a correlation of the presence of certain species of Fusarium in husks and in grains. The number of Fusarium species found on husks was about three times higher in comparison to wheat grain. In conclusion, the presented data indicate the importance of Fusarium populations analysis on wheat husk in seeds pathological studies.

Proline-, glutamic acid-, and leucine-rich protein 1 （PELP1） is a scaffolding protein involved in both genomic and nongenomic estrogen signal transduction pathways. To date, the role of PELP1 protein has yet to be characterized in human sperm and has not been associated with sperm parameters. To confirm the presence of PELP1 in human sperm, fresh semen samples were obtained from 178 donors. The study was designed to establish both mRNA and protein presence, and protein cellular localization. Additionally, the number of PELP1-positive spermatozoa was analyzed in men with normal and abnormal semen parameters. Sperm parameters were assessed according to the World Health Organization （WHO） 2010 standards. The presence of PELP1 in spermatozoa was investigated using four precise, independent techniques. The qualitative presence of transcripts and protein was assessed using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） and western blot protocols, respectively. The cellular localization of PELP1 was investigated by immunocytochemistry. Quantitative analysis of PELP1-positive cells was done by flow cytometry. PELP1 mRNA and protein was confirmed in spermatozoa. Immunocytochemical analysis identified the presence of PELP1 in the midpieces of human sperm irrespective of sperm parameters. Becton Dickinson fluorescence-activated cell sorting （FACSCalibur^Tm） analysis revealed a significantly lower number of PELP1-positive cells in males with normal semen parameters versus abnormal samples （42.78% ± 11.77% vs 61.05% ± 21.70%, respectively; P = 0.014）. The assessment of PELP1 may be a time-saving method used to obtain information about sperm quality. The results of our study suggest that PEPL1 may be utilized as an indicator of sperm quality; thereby, PELP1 may be an additional biomarker useful in the evaluation of male infertility.

Purpose:The aim of this study was to test and expand the Motivation of Marathoners Scale(MOMS) model(Masters et al.,1993).Methods:The MOMS questionnaire was distributed to 306 male and female marathon runners(age range:20–77 years) with experience in marathon running(range:1–44 runs).A confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) revealed that the original model failed to fit the ***,exploratory factor analysis(EFA) was performed to test the best factorial solution for the current data,and a subsequent CFA was performed on the revised factorial ***,a series of EFAs using maximum likelihood factor extraction method were ***:The best structure solution for model-data fit resulted in 11 factors:psychological coping—emotional-related coping,psychological coping—everyday-life management,life meaning,self-esteem,recognition,affiliation,weight concerns,general health orientation—reduced disease prevalence and longevity,general health orientation—keep fit,competition,and personal goal ***:This study provides a sound and solid framework for studying motivation for physically demanding tasks such as marathon runs,and needs to be similarly applied and tested in studies incorporating physical tasks which vary in mental demands.

Persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a congenital cardiovascular malformation connecting the pulmonary trunk of the proximal left pulmonary artery and the descending aorta distal to the left subclavian artery. Normally, the duct closes after birth as a result of a sudden increase in arterial oxygen saturation and a decrease in the level of vasoactive prostaglandins. The incidence of persistent ductus arteriosus accounts for approximately 10% of all congenital heart diseases. PDA is usually diagnosed in early childhood by echocardiography and cardiac catheterization Moderate patent ductus arteriosus may lead to the increase in pulmonary flow and pulmonary hypertension and cause the pressure overload of the right ventricle. In large PDA, the Eisenmenger syndrome develops, which may be associated with other congenital malformations such as coarctation of the aorta, aortic stenosis, ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent foramen ovale (PFO) or pulmonic stenosis. In adulthood, PDA is usually an isolated finding, related to a higher prevalence of heart failure or endarteritis. Computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) as noninvasive methods are indicated when additional quantifications of right ventricle (RV), left ventricle (LV), shunt and pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) are required.

The current paper deals with the evaluation of the BANCS erosion prediction model and its two componentsethe Bank Erosion Hazard Index（BEHI） and Near-Bank Stress（NBS） indices. To construct the erosion prediction curves, 18 experimental sections were established on the Kubrica Stream, district of Trencín, Slovakia. Each section was assessed through the NBS index and BEHI index and real annual bank erosion was measured using erosion toe pins. Subsequently, the relations between the BEHI and real annual bank erosion was assessed through regression and correlation analyses. The relation proved to be moderately strong, with the correlation coefficient（R） reaching 0.47. Further, the relation between the NBS index and real annual bank erosion was evaluated, which was also moderately strong, with R= *** on the measured data, two erosion prediction curves were constructed, the first for moderate BEHI, with R= 0.69 and coefficient of determination（R2） of 0.47 and the second for high BEHI with R=0.74 and R2= 0.55. The prediction curves were based on data from one year of measurements and can, therefore, be used only for discharges that occurred within that year and in the region where the model was developed. In the current case, according to runoff Curve Numbers（CN）, the real culmination discharge was Q ? 1.88 m3/s, which is roughly equivalent to 1.5-year recurrence interval flow（Q1.5）.
