●AiM:To assess the influence of near work,time outdoor and parental myopia on the prevalence of myopia in school children in Aba,Nigeria.●METHODS:Primary and secondary school children aged between 8 and 15 y were randomly recruited from 12 schools in *** on family history,near work and outdoor activity was obtained using myopia risk factor *** refraction was performed using autorefraction *** was defined as spherical equivalent refraction(SER)≤-0.50 D in the poorer *** were analysed for 1197(male:538 and female:659)children with full relevant data.●RESULTS:Risk of developing myopia was positively associated with parental myopia[odds ratio(OR):6.80;95%Ci,2.76-16.74;Pic parent and(OR:9.47;95%Ci,3.88-23.13;Pic parents,longer daily reading hour(OR:1.21;95%Ci,1.03-1.42;P=0.02)and less time outdoors(OR:0.8;95%Ci,0.74-0.87;PiON:Parental history of myopia is the most important risk factor associated with *** addition,children with both parents being myopic has increased odds of developing myopia than those with one myopic *** is recommended therefore,that children spend more time outdoors as this could reduce the prevalence and progression of myopia.

This study presents the results of an experimental investigation that compares the mechanical properties, fracture behavior, creep, and shrinkage of a chemically-based self-consolidating concrete （SCC） mix with that of a corresponding conventional concrete （CC） mix. The CC and SCC mix designs followed conventional proportioning in terms of aggregate type and content, cement content, air content, water-cementitiuos materials （w/cm） ratio, and workability. Then, using only chemical admixtures, the authors converted the CC mix to an SCC mix with all of the necessary passing, filling, flowability, and stability requirements typically found in SCC. The high fluidity was achieved with a polycarboxylate-based high-range water-reducing admixture, while the enhanced stability was accomplished with an organic, polymer-based viscosity-modifying admixture. The comparison indicated that the SCC and CC mixes had virtually identical tensile splitting strengths, flexural strengths, creep, and shrinkage. However, the SCC mix showed higher compressive strengths and fracture energies than the corresponding CC mix.

Cavefish have advanced to the forefront as excellent models for laboratory studies in developmental and evolutionary *** iconic Mexican characid,Astyanax mexicanus,which consists of a surface-dwelling morph and about 30 interfertile cave-dwelling morphs,has become a major contributor to behavior,sensory biology,trait evolution,and biomedicine(jeffery,2020).There are about 200 scientifically-described cavefish species distributed in karst areas on most continents(Proudlove,2015).Similar to ***,a small subset of other cavefish taxa coupled with related surface-dwelling species are now serving as additional laboratory models to address a variety of important biological problems.A prime example is the cyprinid genus Sinocycloceilus,which contains 75 closely related surface and cave species endemic to the karst massifs of southwestern China(Jiang et al.,2019,2023;Ma et al.,2019).Comparative studies of Chinese and Mexican cavefish can be used to address a host of questions concerning the convergence and divergence of cave related *** the future,other Chinese cavefish species,such as the cave loach,as well as the more recently discovered European cavefishes,are likely to join the current group of excellent laboratory *** special issue of Zoological Research presents the results of current research on these diverse cavefish *** addition to recent research using cavefish models in laboratory studies,this issue also covers new research on cavefish in the wild.

The purpose of this paper is to present a comparison between the modified nonlinear SchrSdinger （MNLS） equation and the focusing and defocusing variants of the （unmodified） nonlinear SchrSdinger （NLS） equation in the semiclassical limit. We describe aspects of the limiting dynamics and discuss how the nature of the dynamics is evident theoretically through inverse-scattering and noncommutative steepest descent methods. The main message is that, depending on initial data, the MNLS equation can behave either like the defocusing NLS equation, like the focusing NLS equation （in both cases the analogy is asymptotically accurate in the semiclassical limit when the NLS equation is posed with appropriately modified initial data）, or like an interesting mixture of the two. in the latter case, we identify a feature of the dynamics analogous to a sonic line in gas dynamics, a free boundary separating subsonic flow from supersonic flow.

Osteomyelitis is typically a bacterial infection(usually from Staphylococcus)or,more rarely,a fungal infection of the *** can occur in any bone in the body,but it most often affects the long bones(leg and arm),vertebral(spine),and bones of the *** success in osteomyelitis is due to their ability to form biofilms which inhibit the wound healing process and increases resistance to anti-infective ***,biofilms do not allow easy penetration of antibiotics into their matrix making clinical treatment a *** development of local antibiotic delivery systems that deliver high concentrations of antibiotics to the affected site is an emerging area of research with great *** treatment includes antibiotic therapy,either locally or systemically and refractory cases of osteomyelitis may lead to surgical intervention and a prolonged course of antibiotic treatment involving placement of antibiotic-doped beads or spacers within the wound *** are disadvantages with this treatment modality including insufficient mixing of the antibiotic,lack of uniform bead size,resulting in lower antibiotic availability,and limitations on the antibiotics ***,a method is needed to address biofilm formations in the wound and on the surface of the surgical implants to prevent *** this study,we show that all antibiotics studied were successfully doped into PMMA and antibiotic-doped 3D printed beads,disks,and filaments were easily *** growth inhibition capacity of the antibiotic-loaded PMMA 3D printed constructs was also demonstrated.

为控制连续配筋混凝土路面(CRCP)的横向裂缝,修建大比尺模型-连续配筋混凝土梁(CRCB),分析混凝土材料、配筋率、纤维及横向预切缝对CRCP开裂的影响.构建解析模型推导横向裂缝间距和宽度的计算表达式,理论量化不同设计参数对CRCP横向裂缝特征的影响.结果表明:解析结果与现场勘测数据吻合,说明解析法切实可行;横向裂缝随着试验梁龄期增长而发展,且于19个月后趋于稳定;配筋率对裂缝间距和宽度影响较大,采用筋径为22.23 mm(#7号钢筋)的试验梁,其裂缝间距和宽度比采用筋径为19.05 mm(#6号钢筋)的试验梁降低了17%左右;采用轻质混凝土可增大裂缝间距、减小裂缝宽度,为控制冲断提供可能;加入纤维和设置横向预切缝可增大裂缝间距、减小裂缝宽度.

Tolerance to Zn deficiency and P-Zn interaction in wheat seedlings cultured in chelator-buffered solutions

Zinc deficiency is a common constraint for wheat production in the regions with limited precipitation,particularly in the regions with high levels of available phosphate （P） in *** experiments were conducted using chelator-buffered nutrient solutions to characterize differences in tolerance to Zn deficiency among three winter wheat （Triticum aestivum L）.genotypes and to investigate the relationship between P and Zn nutrition in wheat *** indices,Zn efficiency,relative shoot-to-root ratio,total Zn uptake in shoot,and shoot dry weight were used to compare the tolerance to Zn deficiency among three wheat *** results indicated that the four indices could be used in breeding selection for Zn uptake-efficient *** genotype H6712 was the most tolerant to Zn deficient,followed by M19,and then ***,H6712 had the highest Zn uptake efficiency among the three *** addition of P to the growth medium increased Zn uptake and translocation from roots to *** Zn content of the wheat plant was 43% higher with 0.6 mmol/L P treatment than that of control with 0 mmol /L P *** Zn translocation ratios from roots to shoots were increased by 16% and 26% with 0.6 mmol/L P treatment and 3 mmol/L P treatment,respectively,compared with 0 mmol/L P *** contrast,high Zn concentrations in the growth medium inhibited P translocation from roots to shoots,but the inhibitive effects were not ***-six percent of P taken up by wheat plants was translocated to the wheat shoots at 0 μmol/L Zn treatment,while the percent was 60% at 3 μmol/L Zn *** result may be due to the fact that the wheat plants need more P than Zn.

A New Species of Japalura(Squamata, Agamidae) from the Nu River Valley in Southern Hengduan Mountains, Yunnan, China

A population of Japalura from Yunnan Province, China, previously assigned to Japalura splendida, is described as a new species. The new species has been recorded between 1 138–2 500 m in the Nu River drainage between the towns of Liuku and Binzhongluo, and on the lower western slopes of the Nushan and eastern slopes of the Goaligongshan. The new species can be distinguished from other species of Japalura, except J. dymondi, by the following combination of characters： exposed tympani, prominent dorso-lateral stripes, and small gular scales. it is very similar with but differs from J. dymondi by having smooth or feebly keeled dorsal head scales, three relatively enlarged spines on either side of the post-occiput area, strongly keeled and mucronate scales on occiput area and within the lateral stripes, back of arm and leg green, higher number of dorsal-ridge scales（DS） and fourth toe subdigital scales（T4S）. A principal component analysis of body measurements of adult male specimens of the new species and J. dymondi showed principal component 1 loading highest for upper arm length, fourth toe length and snout to eye length and principal component 2 loading highest for head width, head length and fourth toe length.
