NeCAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal eF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NeCAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one eF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized C-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NeCAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NeCAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NeCAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NeCAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NeCAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NeCAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NeCAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NeCAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NeCAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the eF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. Contribution of China's carbon budget on global radiative forcing

China is the world's largest carbon dioxide（CO2） emitter and a major trading country. Both anthropogenic and natural factors play a critical role in its carbon budget. However,previous studies mostly focus on evaluating anthropogenic emissions or the natural carbon cycle separately, and few included trade-related（import and export） CO2emissions and its contribution on global warming. Using the CarbonTracker CT2019 assimilation dataset and China trade emissions from the Global Carbon Project, we found that the change trend of global CO2flux had obvious spatial heterogeneity, which is mainly affected by anthropogenic CO2flux. From 2000 to 2018, carbon emissions from fossil fuels in the world and in China all showed an obvious increasing trend, but the magnitude of the increase tended to slow *** 2018, the radiative forcing（RF） caused by China's import and export trade was-0.0038 W m-2, and the RF caused by natural carbon budget was-0.0027 W m-2, offsetting 1.54% and 1.13% of the RF caused by fossil fuels that year, respectively. From 2000 to 2018, the contribution of China's carbon emission from fossil fuels to global RF was 11.32%. Considering China's import and export trade, the contribution of anthropogenic CO2emission to global RF decreased to 9.50%. Furthermore, taking into account the offset of carbon sink from China's terrestrial ecosystems, the net contribution of China to global RF decreased to 7.63%. This study demonstrates that China's terrestrial ecosystem and import and export trade are all mitigating China's impact on global anthropogenic warming, and also confirms that during the research process on climate change, comprehensively considering the carbon budget from anthropogenic and natural carbon budgets is necessary to systematically understand the impacts of regional or national carbon budgets on global warming.

Taxonomic and faunistic results on three genera in the tribes Margaroniini Swinhoe & Cotes, 1889 and Agroterini Acloque, 1897—Omiodes Guinée, 1854, Patania Moore, 1888 and Notarcha Meyrick, 1884 are presented, based on material sampled in the Afrotropical part of the Arabian Peninsula, in the south-western province of Jizan, Saudi Arabia. Omiodes undularis sp.n., Patania orbiscularis sp.n. and Patania rhomboidalis sp.n. are newly described. Of Omiodes undularis sp.n., the adults, male genitalia, and tympanal organs are described and figured. The female genitalia are unknown. The Afrotropical and Oriental species of the genus potentially related to the new species by external characters are reviewed. The differential character states distinguishing the new species from the closest related Omiodes indicata (Fabricius, 1775) are listed. The adults and male genitalia of Patania orbiscularis sp.n. are described and figured. The female genitalia are unknown. The species most closely related in the male genitalia is Patania tchadalis (Leraut, 2005). The differential character states are listed. Of Patania rhomboidalis sp.n., the adults, female genitalia, and tympanal organs are described and figured. The new species is externally closely related to Patania tchadalis (Leraut, 2005), Patania harutai (Inoue, 1955), Patania crepuscularia Matsui & Naka, 2023, Patania accipitralis (Walker, 1866) and Patania fraterna (Moore, 1885) externally and in the female genitalia. The external and internal differential character states are listed. A determination key to the newly described Arabian species of the genus Patania Moore, 1888 and their closest relatives is given. The female genitalia of Notarcha viridalis Seizmair, 2021 attributed to the Notarcha quaternalis (Zeller, 1852) species complex, are described for the first time. Angiosperms experienced one of the most remarkable radiations of land plants and are now the dominant autotrophs in terrestrial *** phylogenomic studies based on large-scale data from plastid,mitochondrial,or nuclear transcriptomes/genomes and increased taxon sampling have provided unprecedent resolution into the phylogeny of flowering ***,owing to ancient rapid radiations,the interrelationships among the five lineages of Mesangiospermae,the vast majority of angiosperms,remain *** we show that,although plastid and mitochondrial genomes lack sufficient phylogenetic signal for resolving deeper phylogeny,the relationships among five mesangiosperm lineages can be confidently resolved under better-fitting models using genome-scale *** to our Bayesian cross-validation and model test in a maximum likelihood framework,siteheterogeneous models(e.g.,CAT-GTR+G4,LG+C20+F+G)outperform site-homogeneous or partition models often used in previous *** site-heterogeneous models,the approximately unbiased test favored our preferred tree recovered from various datasets:Ceratophyllales(coontails)are robustly recovered as sister to monocots,and they together are sister to the clade comprising magnoliids,Chloranthales,and *** phylogenomic analyses resolve the last enigma of the deeper phylogeny of angiosperms and emphasize the efficacy of modeling compositional heterogeneity in resolving rapid radiations of plants.

Facing the need for transdisciplinary research to promote ecological restoration that achieves both social and ecological benefits,research on past restoration efforts that have directly or indirectly contributed to regional or national sustainable development warrants *** China as an example,in this review,we address three basic research questions that can be summarized as follows:ecological restoration—of what,for whom and to what purpose?Accordingly,a landscape pattern—ecosystem service—sustainable development' co-evolutionary framework is proposed here to describe landscape-scale ecological restoration and its impact on landscape patterns and ecological processes,ecosystem services for human well-being,sustainable livelihoods and socioeconomic *** the strategic pattern of national ecological security to the pattern of major projects to protect and restore major national ecosystems,the spatial pattern of China' s ecological restoration is more geographically *** major function-oriented zoning to systematic ecological protection and restoration,and for the purpose of achieving the Beautiful China Initiative,there are three stages of ecosystem services management:classification,synergy and integration,*** difference in geographic processes should be considered in the key re quirements of ecological restoration for China' s five national strategies for regional sustainable-development *** understanding of the relationship between humans and nature in different geographical contexts is a scientific prerequisite to support policymaking related to ecological *** promote greater harmony between humans and nature,we propose four important research directions:(ⅰ) understanding coupling processes among key components,(ⅱ) identifying ecosystem service flows,(ⅲ) evaluating social-ecological benefits and(ⅳ) supporting adaptive management for regional sustainable development.

Spinal cord injury leads to persistent behavioral deficits because mammalian central nervous system axons fail to regenerate. A neuron's response to axon injury results from a complex interplay of neuron-intrinsic and environmental factors. The contribution of axotomy to the death of neurons in spinal cord injury is controversial because very remote axotomy is unlikely to result in neuronal death, whereas death of neurons near an injury may reflect environmental factors such as ischemia and inflammation. In lampreys, axotomy due to spinal cord injury results in delayed apoptosis of spinal-projecting neurons in the brain, beyond the extent of these environmental factors. This retrograde apoptosis correlates with delayed resealing of the axon, and can be reversed by inducing rapid membrane resealing with polyethylene glycol. Studies in mammals also suggest that polyethylene glycol may be neuroprotective, although the mechanism(s) remain unclear. This review examines the early, mechanical, responses to axon injury in both mammals and lampreys, and the potential of polyethylene glycol to reduce injury-induced pathology. Identifying the mechanisms underlying a neuron's response to axotomy will potentially reveal new therapeutic targets to enhance regeneration and functional recovery in humans with spinal cord injury.
