AIM: To investigate clinical characteristics associated with the presence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms in hemodialysis (HD) ***: This was a cross-sectional study. A questionnaire based on the Bowel Disease Questionnaire that records gastrointestinal symptoms was given to 294 patients in 4 dialysis centers. A total of 196 (67%) subjects returned the survey. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify factors significantly associated with IBS symptoms. RESULTS: Symptoms compatible with IBS were present in 27 (13.8%) subjects and independently associated with low post-dialysis serum potassium [OR = 0.258, 95% CI (0.075-0.891), P = 0.032], paracetamol use [OR = 3.159, 95% CI (1.214-8.220), P = 0.018], and Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQOL) cognitive function score [OR = 0.977, 95% CI (0.956-0.999), P = 0.042]. Univariate regressions were also performed and the reported significance is for multivariate analysis. No association was detected for age, gender, depressed mood, smoking (present or past), body mass index, albumin level, Kt/V, sodium preor post-dialysis level, change in potassium level during HD, proton pump inhibitor or H2 blocker use, aspirin use, residual diuresis, hepatitis B or C infection, diabetes mellitus, marital status and education level. CONCLUSION: This study examined potential risk factors for symptoms compatible with IBS in HD patients and identified an association with paracetamol use, post-dialysis potassium level and KDQOL-cognitive function score.

Mast seeding causes strongﬂuctuations in populations of forest ***,this phenomenon can be used as a natural experiment to examine how variation in host abundance affects parasite *** investigatedﬂeas infesting yellow-necked mice in beech forest after 2 mast and 2 non-mast *** tested 2 mutually exclusive scenarios:(1)as predicted by classical models of density-dependent transmission,an increase in host density will cause an increase in ectoparasite abundance(deﬁned as the number of parasites per host),versus(2)an increase in host density will cause a decline inﬂea abundance(“dilution,”which is thought to occur when parasite population growth is slower than that of the host).In addition,we assessed whether masting alters the relationship between host traits(sex and body mass)andﬂea *** found a hump-shaped relationship between host andﬂea ***,the most basic predictions are too simple to describe ectoparasite dynamics in this *** addition,masting modiﬁed seasonal dynamics ofﬂea abundance,but did not affect the relationship between host traits andﬂea abundance(individuals with the highest body mass hosted the mostﬂeas;after controlling for body mass,parasite abundance did not vary between sexes).Our results demonstrate that pulses of tree reproduction can indirectly,through changes in host densities,drive patterns of ectoparasite infestation.

In 2018,the Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to James *** and Tasuku Honjo for their work on the description of immune checkpoint inhibitors which contributed to the development of new anti-cancer ***,although these new therapeutic strategies,which are designed to limit immune escape of cancer cells,have been used or tested successfully in many different cancers,a large proportion of patients have been described to resist and not respond to these new *** new incoming challenge is now therefore to overcome these resistance and new recent data presented epigenetic modifications as promising targets to restore anti-tumor ***,both DNA methylation and post-translational histone modifications have been described to regulate immune checkpoint inhibitor expression,tumor-associated antigen presentation or cancer cell editing by the immune system and therefore establishing epigenetic drugs as a potential complement to immunotherapies to improve their efficiency.

BACKGROUND Follicular lymphoma is an indolent lymphoma that may progress to a highly aggressive form requiring *** regimens utilize rituximab,an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody,which may affect the clinical course of novel coronavirus,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infections[coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)].Here we describe the first case of mild COVID-19 during ongoing oncological treatment without significant deterioration after rituximab *** SUMMARY A 74-year-old female with an enlargement of her right palatine tonsil was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma following tonsillectomy and started immunochemotherapy according to the rituximab,cyclophosphamide,vincristine,prednisone *** home before the fourth cycle,she developed nonspecific symptoms(excessive fatigue,loss of appetite and nausea),misdiagnosed as adverse effects of ***,interim positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan,performed shortly before rituximab administration,revealed previously nonexistent pulmonary changes,potentially of infectious ***-CoV-2 infection was confirmed by a nasopharyngeal swab(with reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction test)performed the following *** rituximab infusion,the patient remained oligosymptomatic and was discharged home for *** reached a negative SARS-CoV-2 status before the subsequently scheduled regimen,the patient successfully received six cycles of rituximab,cyclophosphamide,vincristine,prednisone and obtained complete remission by positron emission tomographycomputed *** Our case shows that rituximab-based immunotherapy due to follicular lymphoma may have no evident negative effect on the COVID-19 clinical course.

Chronic infection with the hepatitis C virus(HCV)remains a major health problem affecting approximately 58 million people *** the era of interferon(IFN)-based regimens,patients particularly infected with genotypes 1 and 4 achieved a low response *** implementation of direct-acting antivirals changed the landscape of HCV *** increase in effectiveness provided us with the hope of eliminating HCV as a significant public threat by *** the following years,there was an observed improvement in the treatment of HCV with genotype-specific regimens and highly effective pangenotypic options that are the most recent stage of the *** optimization of therapy was accompanied by changes in the patient profile from the beginning of the IFN-free era over *** treated with antiviral therapies were younger in successive periods,less burdened with comorbidities and comedications,more frequently treatment-naïve and had less advanced liver *** the IFN-free era,specific subpopulations such as patients with HCV/HIV coinfection,those with a history of previous treatment,patients with renal impairment or with cirrhosis had lower chances for a virologic ***,these populations should no longer be considered difficult to *** the high effectiveness of HCV therapy,there is a small percentage of patients with treatment ***,they can be effectively retreated with pangenotypic rescue regimens.

This study investigates the potential of cannabidiol(CBD),one major cannabinoid of the plant Cannabis sativa,alone and in combination with a terpene-enriched extract from Humulus lupulus(“Hops 1”),on the LPS-response of RAW 264.7 macrophages as an established in vitro model of *** the present study,we could support earlier findings of the anti-inflammatory potential of CBD,which showed a dose-dependent[0-5μM]reduction in nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)released by LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 ***,we observed an additive anti-inflammatory effect after combined CBD[5μM]and hops extract[40μg/mL]*** combination of CBD and Hops 1 showed effects in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells superior to the single sub-stance treatments and akin to the control ***,cellular CBD uptake increased dose-depend-ently in the presence of terpenes from Hops 1 *** anti-inflammatory effect of CBD and its cellular uptake positively correlated with terpene concentration,as indicated by comparison with a hemp extract containing both CBD and *** findings may contribute to the postulations for the so-called“entourage effect”between cannabinoids and terpenes and support the potential of CBD combined with phytomolecules from a non-cannabi-noid source,such as hops,for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Composts are considered to be one of the best soil amendments. However, the effects of composts with added polymeric materials on soil physical,hydraulic, and micromorphological properties have not been widely discussed. Changes in soil physical properties influence the numerous services that soils provide. We studied the impacts of composts with the addition of three different polymers(F1–F3) produced from polyethylene and thermoplastic corn starch on the physical, hydraulic, and micromorphological properties of two soils, a Cambic Phaeozem and a Luvic Phaeozem. Applying composts with polymers had limited or no significant effect on soil bulk density and porosity, but increased the field water capacity by 18%–82% and 3%–6% and the plant-available water content by 15%–23% and 4%–17% for the Cambic Phaeozem and Luvic Phaeozem, respectively. The application of composts with polymers had a greater effect on the Cambic Phaeozem than on the Luvic Phaeozem. It was suggested that the use of modified composts led to changes in soil physical properties and micromorphological features and this effect was dependent on the compost application rate. Composts made with the addition of composite synthetic and natural material-derived polymers during composting were found to be a composite mixture that can be successfully used in agriculture.

This review reflects upon our own as well as other investigators’studies on the role of receptor for advanced glycation end-products(RAGE),bringing up the latest information on RAGE in physiology and pathology of the nervous *** the last ten years,major progress has been made in uncovering many of RAGE-ligand interactions and signaling pathways in nervous tissue;however,the translation of these discoveries into clinical practice has not come to fruition *** is likely,in part to be the result of our incomplete understanding of this crucial signaling *** trials examining the therapeutic efficacy of blocking RAGE-external ligand interactions by genetically engineered soluble RAGE or an endogenous RAGE antagonist,has not stood up to its promise;however,other trials with different blocking agents are being considered with hope for therapeutic success in diseases of the nervous system.
