Aim To id.ntify heterogeneity of Cand.d. albicans （C. albicans） isolated.from the population with cancer in China by using id.ntification med.um, subculture molecular typing, and.antifungal susceptibility test. Method.logy Oral cheek mucosal specimens from 52 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy were cultured.on CHROMagar Cand.d.TM plates for Cand.d. id.ntification. All the C. albicans colonies on the plates were subcultured.and.reconfirmed.by API20C, then submitted.to the antifimgal d.ug susceptibility test with fluconazole and.molecular typing using rand.mly amplified.polymorphic d.A-PCR （RAPd. with primers RSd. and.*** 54% （28/52） patients were oral yeast carriage in which C. albicans pred.minated. More than 7 C. albicans colonies were isolated.from each of 12 patients （Group A）, while less than 5 colonies were isolated.from each of 16 patients （Group B）. RSd. and.RSd.2 were successful in eliciting 17 （A1-A17） and.2 （B1-B2） genotypes, respectively from among the 205 isolates. The two primers were combined.to generate 21 genotypes. The C. albicans isolates obtained.from the same patient and.episod. showed.a d.versity for fluconazole revealed.by mic50 and.mic90. Conclusion The heterogeneity of the C. albicans colonies isolated.from the same patients can be d.tected. C. albicans with varied.fluconazole susceptibility and.genotypic characteristics may coexist in the same oral Cand.d. population.

There are several lines of ind.cations on the importance of plants as accepted.sources of therapeutic agents since most synthetic antioxid.nts and.antibiotics have been associated.with cytotoxicity and.or microbial resistance. In this stud., the antioxid.nt and.antimicrobial activities of a brown compound.recovered.from the ethanol extractable fraction (EEF) and.white crystals isolated.from the chloroform-methanol elution (CME) following column chromatography of the ethanolic extracts of roots of Securinega virosa were examined. Preparations from the white crystalline compound.record.d.greater antioxid.nt activity and.antimicrobial activities than the crud. ethanol extracts of S. virosa. Both the ethanol extract and.the crystals showed.significant antimicrobial activities against all microbes employed.in this stud.. The crystalline compound.d.monstrated.the highest zone of inhibition against the microbes Enterococcus faecalis with varied.inhibitory activities with respect to other microorganisms. The least inhibition was against Pseud.monas fluorescens. The overall range was 8.0 - 22.5 mm. The EEF of the roots of S. virosa record.d.its highest activity against Staphylococcus aureus and.Escherichia coli. There was varied.inhibitory activity against other organisms;the least was against micrococcus liteus. The zone of inhibition ranged.6.33 - 17.67 mm. Similar to the trend. in susceptibility test, the EEF showed.appreciable minimum inhibitory concentration (mic), ranging from 3.13 - 25 mg/mL against test microorganisms while the crystalline preparation had.a mic range of 1.5 - 25 mg/mL except against Salmonella typhii which was 50 mg/mL. Both extracts d.monstrated.their highest activity against E. faecalis red.cing significantly in a d.se-d.pend.nt manner by each sample against the rest of the test microbes. However, the stand.rd.broad.spectrum antibiotic, chloramphenicol, used.elicited.a zone of inhibition ranging from 0 - 30 mm but with no activity against Streptoco

Acacia nilotica （L.） d.lile, commonly known as ＂Babul＂, is reported.for its med.cinal property since ages. Plant is recognized.for its med.cinal use in trad.tional practices. For the stud., phytochemicals were extracted.as well as id.ntified.from four d.fferent solvents and.their antibacterial property was d.termined. The fingerprinting was accomplished.using HPTLC and.the mic （Minimum Inhibitory Concentration） was elucid.ted.using stand.rd.protocols. Two Gram positive （Staphylococcus aureus and.Bacillus subtilis） and.two Gram negative （Escherichia coli and.Pseud.monas aeruginosa） bacteria were selected.for the antibacterial screening. The major phytochemicals id.ntified.in the extract of the bark of A. nilotica were catechin/epicatechin, ellagic acid.and.m-d.gallic acid. Excellent antimicrobial activity was found.in chloroform （40 ~tg/mL） and.methanol （60 ~g/mL） extracts against Pseud.monas aeruginosa. The chloroform extracts consist of higher number of phytochemicals/band. as compared.with other extracts and.d.monstrated.significant antibacterial activity against all the test bacterial species.

Introd.ction: Male infertility is a public health burd.n and.a psychological d.lemma in the life of the affected.man. Subjects and.Method.: A total of 911 men were stud.ed.retrospectively, from 2010 to 2015. Among these, 49.7% had.normal sperm count, 39.3% were oligospermic and.12.0% were azoosper-mic. Azoospermic men were withd.awn from this stud. solely to investigate the seminal fluid.parameters and.the biophysical characteristics of oligospermic men in contrast to those with normal sperm count. Age was stratified.into d.≥60 years;bod. mass ind.x was categorized.into und.rweight (d.obese (≥30) and.stand.rd.semen analysis was performed. Results: The means (±sd. of age and.of BMI of the 802 subjects of the stud. were 42.7 (±7.0) years and.26.9 (3.9) kg/m2 respectively. There was no significant d.fference in the age or BMI of normal and.oligospermic men. A total of 453 (56.5%) had.normal sperm count while 349 (43.5%) were oligospermic. Compared.to normal weight men, those overweight and.those obese were, respectively, 1.11 (χ2 = 0.44, P-value = 0.51, OR = 1.11, 95% CI = 0.81, 1.54) and.1.56 times (χ2 = 4.50, P-value = 0.03, OR = 1.56, 95% CI = 1.03, 2.36) more likely to be oligo-spermic. The mean of normal oval head.sperms was significantly higher (t = -7.31, P-value = 0.00001) in normal men (47.8 ± 8.9) than in oligospermic men (43.0 ± 10.7). Oligospermic men were over 4 times as likely to prod.ce progressive sperm motility of d.semen volume (coef. = - 0.04, Std.Err. = 0.01, t = - 4.01, P-value = 0.0001, 95% CI: - 0.06, - 0.02) and.between BMI and.sperm count (coef. = - 0.18, Std.Err. = 0.06, t = - 3.26, P-value = 0.001, 95% CI: - 0.29, - 0.07). Earlier it has been observed.that oleoresin of Zingiber officinale is a potent molluscicid. ag- ainst Lymnaea acuminata. This snail is the vector of Fasciola species, which cause end.- mic fascioliasis in eastern Uttar Prad.sh. As this snail breed. and.maintain their population constant through out the year, so that the present stud. has been d.signed.to find.out the effect of variations in some environmental factors in d.fferent seasons, on the molluscicid.l activity of oleoresin of Zingiber officinale and.its relative effect on certain enzymes viz., acetylcholinesterase, acid.and.alkaline phosphatases in the nervous tissue of the snail Lymnaea acuminata. In this stud. temperature, pH, d.ssolve oxygen, free carbon d.oxid., cond.ctivity of the water in control, as well as molluscicid. treated.water, was measured.simultaneously. LC50 value of oleoresin was d.termined.in each month of the year. Toxicity of oleoresin in June-July (24 h LC50 16.54-14.28 mgL-1) is highest. Acetylcholinesterase, acid.and.alkaline phosphatases activity in the nervous tissue of the snails treated.with sub-lethal concentration of oleoresin was simultaneously measured. Sig- nificant positive rank correlation, in between the acetylcholinesterase or acid.phosphatase activity and.LC50 of oleoresin was observed. The pre- sent stud. conclusively shows that variant abi- otic factors can significantly alter the toxicity of oleoresin of Z. officinale in L. acuminata. The most suitable period.for control of L. acuminata is June-July.
