Survival improvement and prognostic factors in recent management of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma:A single-center study

Background:Cholangiocarcinoma was considered as a dismal disease with very poor prognosis until *** is increasingly found due to increased life *** surgical and medical management were advanced recently,data on the prognosis,especially extrahepatic cholangio-carcinoma(ECC),were *** study aimed to identify clinicopathologic features and prognosis of patients with ***:Patients followed up and diagnosed with ECC between January 2014 and December 2016 at a tertiary hospital were included,whereas those with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma,gallbladder cancer,and ampullary cancer were ***:A total of 83 patients were followed after the treatment(49 men and 34 women;median age 73.3 years).Cancer location was classified as distal common bile duct(25 patients),proximal com-mon bile duct(24 patients),common hepatic duct(20 patients),and hilar(14 patients).About 14.5%of patients had history of another malignant neoplasm,and 24.1%patients had chronic ***-cal resection was performed in 54 patients(65%)and dysplasia was combined in 63%(34/54).Adjuvant chemotherapy was performed in 54%(29/54),but only 7 underwent palliative chemotherapy in 29 non-surgical *** median overall survival in all patients was 30.9 *** analyzing the treatment modality,median survival of adjuvant chemotherapy,surgery only,palliative chemotherapy,and support-ive care groups were 42.9,30.9,12.0,and 8.9 months,respectively(Prapy,and comorbidity were significant prognostic factors,and the comorbidity was the only significant prognostic factor in the multivariable analysis(hazard ratio[HR]=2.80;95%CI:1.32–5.95;P=0.007).In a subgroup analysis of surgical patients,the presence of dysplasia was a favorable prognostic factor in the multivariable analysis(HR=0.29;95%CI:0.09–0.91;P=0.033).Conclusions:The overall survival of patients with ECC wa

Long-term outcomes of very low birth weight infants with intraventricular hemorrhage:a nationwide population study from 2011 to 2019

Background Advancements in neonatal care have increased preterm infant survival but paradoxically raised intraventricular hemorrhage(IVH)*** study explores IVH prevalence and long-term outcomes of very low birth weight(VLBW)infants in Korea over a *** Using Korean National Health Insurance data(NHIS,2010-2019),we identified 3372 VLBW infants with IVH among 4,129,808 live ***-related claims data,encompassing diagnostic codes,diagnostic test costs,and administered procedures were sourced from the NHIS *** results of the developmental assessments are categorized into four groups based on standard deviation(SD)*** characteristics and complications were compared among the *** regression models were employed to identify significant changes in the incidence of complications and to calculate odds ratios with corresponding 95%confidence intervals for each risk factor associated with mortality and morbidity in ***-term growth and development were compared between the two groups(years 2010-2013 and 2014-2017).Results IVH prevalence was 12%in VLBW and 16%in extremely low birth weight(ELBW)*** the past decade,IVH rates increased significantly in ELBW infants(P=0.0113),while mortality decreased(P=0.0225).Major improvements in certain neurodevelopmental outcomes and reductions in early morbidities have been observed among VLBW infants with *** percent of the population received surgical treatments such as external ventricular drainage(EVD)or a ventriculoperitoneal(VP)shunt,with the choice of treatment methods remaining consistent over *** IVH with surgical intervention group exhibited higher incidences of delayed development,cerebral palsy,seizure disorder,and growth failure(height,weight,and head circumference)up to 72 months of age(P<0.0001).Surgical treatments were also significantly associated with abnormal developmental screening test *** The neurodevelopmental outcomes of infa

Fabrication of periodically aligned vertical singlecrystalline anatase TiO2 nanotubes with perfect hexagonal open-ends using chemical capping materials

A vertically aligned anatase TiO2 （A-TiO2） nanotube array has been fabricated by coating a ZnO nanorod （NR） template with a TiO2 precursor solution. After coating, the ZnO NR cores were selectively etched in an acidic environment to form TiO2 nanotubes （NTs）. More specifically, after growing the ZnO NRs via a hydrothermal method, one drop of the TiO2 precursor solution was cast to coat the ZnO NRs, the tops of which were previously covered with chemical capping materials by electrostatic interaction, and then the sample was sintered. Finally, the sample was immersed in an acidic solution resulting in selective etching of the ZnO NR cores. Thus, only TiO2 NTs remained on the substrate. The capping material is effectively used to create a perfect, hexagonal open-ended TiO2 NT array, which interestingly extends onset absorption towards the visible region.

Comparative study of microarray and experimental data on Schwann cells in peripheral nerve degeneration and regeneration: big data analysis

A Schwann cell has regenerative capabilities and is an important cell in the peripheral nervous *** microarray study is part of a bioinformatics study that focuses mainly on Schwann cells. microarray data provide information on differences between microarray-based and experiment-based gene expression analyses. According to microarray data, several genes exhibit increased expression(fold change) but they are weakly expressed in experimental studies(based on morphology, protein and mRNA levels). In contrast, some genes are weakly expressed in microarray data and highly expressed in experimental studies;such genes may represent future target genes in Schwann cell studies. These studies allow us to learn about additional genes that could be used to achieve targeted results from experimental studies. In the current big data study by retrieving more than 5000 scientific articles from PubMed or NCBI, Google Scholar, and Google, 1016(up-and downregulated) genes were determined to be related to Schwann cells. However,no experiment was performed in the laboratory; rather, the present study is part of a big data analysis. Our study will contribute to our understanding of Schwann cell biology by aiding in the identification of *** on a comparative analysis of all microarray data, we conclude that the microarray could be a good tool for predicting the expression and intensity of different genes of interest in actual experiments.

Insights into female germ cell biology： from in vivo development to in vitro derivations

Understanding the mechanisms of human germ cell biology is important for developing infertility treatments. However, little is known about the mechanisms that regulate human gametogenesis due to the difficulties in collecting samples, especially germ cells during fetal development. In contrast to the mitotic arrest of spermatogonia stem cells in the fetal testis, female germ cells proceed into meiosis and began folliculogenesis in fetal ovaries. Regulations of these developmental events, including the initiation of meiosis and the endowment of primordial follicles, remain an enigma. Studying the molecular mechanisms of female germ cell biology in the human ovary has been mostly limited to spatiotemporal characterizations of genes or proteins. Recent efforts in utilizing in vitro differentiation system of stem cells to derive germ cells have allowed researchers to begin studying molecular mechanisms during human germ cell development. Meanwhile, the possibility of isolating female germline stem cells in adult ovaries also excites researchers and generates many debates. This review will mainly focus on presenting and discussing recent in vivo and in vitro studies on female germ cell biology in human. The topics will highlight the progress made in understanding the three main stages of germ cell developments： namely, primordial germ cell formation, meiotic initiation, and folliculogenesis.

Boron-10 stimulated helium production and accelerated radiation displacements for rapid development of fusion structural materials

Boron doping,combined with neutron capture in fission reactors,has been used to simulate the helium effect on fusion structural ***,inhomogeneous helium bubble formation was often observed due to boron segregation to grain *** excess radiation displacements due to^(10)B(n,α)^(7)Li reaction,the high-energy lithium and helium ions,also were not accounted for,which can significantly accelerate the displacements-per-atom(dpa)accumulation alongside helium production(appm).Hereby an isotopically pure^(10)B doping approach is proposed to simulate the extreme envi-ronment inside fusion reactors with a high He appm-to-dpa ratio of about 10,which is about 10^(2)×larger than in fission *** modeling showed that~13%of total radiation displacement was induced by^(10)B(n,α)^(7)Li in the case of 1000 appm^(10)B doped Fe samples,which becomes even greater with increasing^(10)B *** homogenous radiation damage and helium generation are pre-dicted for grain sizes less than 1 mm,even if the boron partially formed precipitates or segregates on grain *** studies with various^(10)B doping(and^(235)U-codoping)levels in research reactors showed the estimated helium generation and radiation damage would significantly mimic fusion conditions and greatly expedite fusion materials testing,from many years down to months.

ASL Recognition by the Layered Learning Model Using Clustered Groups

American Sign Language(ASL)images can be used as a communication tool by determining numbers and letters using the shape of the ***,ASL can have an key role in communication for hearing-impaired persons and conveying information to other persons,because sign language is their only channel of *** ASL recognition methods primarily adopt images,sensors,and pose-based recognition techniques,and employ various gestures together with *** study briefly reviews these attempts at ASL recognition and provides an improved ASL classification model that attempts to develop a deep learning method with *** the proposed model,the collected ASL images were clustered based on similarities in shape,and clustered group classification was first performed,followed by reclassification within the *** experiments were conducted with various groups using different learning layers to improve the accuracy of individual image *** selecting the optimized group,we proposed a meta-layered learning model with the highest recognition rate using a deep learning method of image *** proposed model exhibited an improved performance compared with the general classification model.
