Background and Aims:In the REALM (Randomized, Obser-vational Study of Entecavir to Assess Long-Term Outcomes Associated with Nucleoside/Nucleotide Monotherapy for Pa-tients with Chronic HBV Infection) study, 12,378 patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection received up to 10 years of randomized therapy with entecavir or another HBV nucleos(t)ide analogue. Monitored clinical outcome events (COEs) included malignant neoplasms, HBV disease progres-sion events, and deaths. An external event adjudication com-mittee (EAC) was convened to provide real-time review of reported COEs to optimize data quality, and minimize poten-tial adverse effects of the large cohort, interdisciplinary out-come assessments, geographic scope, and long duration. Methods:The EAC comprised an international group of hep-atologists and oncologists with expertise in diagnosis of tar-geted COEs. The EAC reviewed and adjudicated COEs according to prospectively defined diagnostic criteria cap-tured in the EAC charter. Operational processes, including da-ta collection and query procedures, were implemented to optimize efficiency of data recovery to maximize capture of adjudicated COEs, the primary study outcome measure. Results: A total of 1724 COEs were reported and 1465 of these events were adjudicated by the EAC as reported by the investigators (85.0% overall concordance). Concordance by COE type varied: deaths, 99.6%;hepatocellular carcino-ma (HCC), 83.3%;non-HCC malignancies, 88.0%;non-HCC HBV disease progression, 68.2%. Reasons for lack of con-cordance were most commonly lack of adequate supporting data to support an adjudicated diagnosis or evidence that the event pre-dated the study. Conclusions: The REALM EAC performed a critical role in ensuring data quality and consis-tency;EAC performance was facilitated by well-defined diag-nostic criteria, effective data capture, and efficient operational processes. Nowadays, the rapid changes in the marketing environment of construction products accelerate the shortening tendency of product life cycles which in return put pressure on companies to produce successful new products and adopt innovative strategies to survive and expand in the fast competitive environment. The success of the new construction products calls for a high-quality and well-managed product development process. Thus, this study aims at defining the basic steps of a NPD （new product development） process designed for floor coverings and evaluating its applicability. To this end, the product development methods of the leading companies in the construction sector in Turkey have been analyzed. Also, a questionnaire has been conducted to determine which of the steps of the proposed methodology are currently being realized and which are not or cannot be implemented. Finally, based on this information, certain suggestions have been made as to what can be done to enhance the NPD processes of the companies＇ subject to evaluation.

Epidemiological and clinical data of patients with stings and bites at a medical center of Turkey

In this study, four adaptive neural network based fuzzy logic controllers （ANNFL） are designed and used as two controllers in terms of interval type-2 fuzzy logic control. The new controllers are called as adaptive neural network based interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller （ANNIT2FL） and applied to a rigid-flexible robot manipulator. Initially dynamic model of the manipulator is obtained by using Lagrange equations and assumed modes method. ANNFL controllers are used for tracking and vibration control of system. The training and testing data of ANNFLs are obtained from the conventional PD control of the manipulator system. The performances of four ANFLCs are tested for different type and different number of membership functions and combined to create two ANNIT2FL controllers. Finally simulation results are obtained according to rotation and vibration control performances of ANNIT2FL controllers. Results demonstrate the remarkable performance of the proposed control technique.

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological and clinical data of patients who were admitted to ?n?nü University Turgut ?zal Medical Center Emergency Department with bites and stings between 2013 and 2015. Methods: Patients with bites and stingings who were admitted to ?n?nü University Turgut ?zal Medical Center during 2013-2015 were selected for this retrospective evaluation. We retrived the following information including age, gender, anatomic localization of the sting or bite, admission time, complaints, vital signs, length of stay, laboratory findings and hospitalization department. Pearson's chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, One-way ANOVA test and the Bonferroni correction as post hoc were used for sta.is.ical analysis. Results: The mean age of the patients was (43.51±16.90) years, and 55% were male. The most common admission reason was pain (34.7%), followed by rash (19.1%) and panic (11.6%). A total of 16.8% of the admissions occurred in July, 16.8% in August and 16.5% in June while the occurrence was the lowest in November with 1.5%. The most prevalent bites or stinging animals were scorpions (34.6%), followed by ticks (19.7%) and bees (12.9%). Antihistaminic-steroid-tetanus and analgesic-antihistaminic-steroid combinations were administered, respectively to 59.6% and 25% of the patients. The longest length of stay was (48.56±26.92) h due to snake bites. Conclusions: The community should be educated about the living areas of these animals, the seasons and hours in which they are active. Since individuals living and working in rural areas are at risk, more education should be given to them.

AIM: To investigate the preventive effect of kefir on colitis induced with dextran sulfate sodium(DSS) in ***: Twenty-four male Wistar-albino rats were randomized into four groups: normal control,kefircontrol,colitis,and kefir-colitis groups. Rats in the normal and kefir-control groups were administered tap water as drinking water for 14 d. Rats in the colitis and kefir-colitis groups were administered a 3% DSS solution as drinking water for 8-14 d to induce colitis. Rats in the kefir-control and kefir-colitis groups were administered 5 m L kefir once a day for 14 d while rats in the normal control and colitis group were administered an identical volume of the placebo(skim milk) using an orogastric feeding tube. Clinical colitis was evaluated with reference to the disease activity index(DAI),based on daily weight loss,stool consistency,and presence of bleeding in feces. Rats were sacrificed on the 15 th day,blood specimens were collected,and colon tissues were rapidly removed. Levels of myeloperoxidase(MPO),tumor necrosisfactor(TNF)-α,interleukin(IL)-10,malondialdehyde,and inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS) were measured in colon ***: The DAI was lower in the kefir-colitis group than in the colitis group(on the 3rd and 5th days of colitis induction; P a.is.ically higher only on the 6th day in the kefircolitis group when compared to that in the normal control groups. Increased colon weight and decreased colon length were observed in colitis-induced rats. Mean colon length in the colitis group was significantly shorter than that of the kefir-control group. Kefir treatment significantly decreased histologic colitis scores(P < 0.05). MPO activity in the colitis group was significantly higher than in the kefir-control group(P < 0.05). BACKGROUND:This study aimed to compare pantoprazole,a proton-pomp inhibitors(PPIs),and ranitidine,a H2 receptor antagonists(H2RA),in ceasing dyspeptic symptoms in the emergency department(ED).METHODS:This randomized,double-blinded study compared the effectiveness of 50 mg ranitidine(Ulcuran®)and 40 mg pantoprazole(Pantpas®),given in a 100 m L saline solution by an intravenous rapid infusion within 2–4 minutes in patients with dyspepsia presented to the *** intensity was measured at baseline,30 and 60 minutes after the drug ***:A total of 72 patients were eligible for the *** these patients,2 were excluded from the study because the initial visual analogue scale(VAS)scores were under 20 mm and 4 were excluded from the sta.is.ical analysis because of being diagnosed as having other causes of epigastric pain despite being allocated to one of the study ***-three patients in the pantoprazole group and 33 patients in the ranitidine group were analyzed *** mean age of the patients was36.6±15 years,and 26(39.4%)patients were *** of the groups reduced pain effectively at 30[27.6±28(18 to 37)vs.28.3±23(20 to 37),respectively]and 60 minutes[39.6±39(26 to 53)vs.42.3±25(33 to 51),respectively].There were 13(39.4%)patients in the pantoprazole group and 8(24.2%)patients in the ranitidine group who required additional drug at the end of the study(P=0.186).CONCLUSION:Intravenous pantoprazole and ranitidine are not superior to each other in ceasing dyspeptic symptoms at 30 and 60 minutes in the ED.
