Comparisons of.oxbow lake f.sh assemblages in relation to bigheaded carp establishment in the lower White River, Arkansas

Background Since the late 1990s, bigheaded carps(largely silver carp [Hypophthalmichthys molitrix] but also bighead carp [H. nobilis]) have established throughout the lower Mississippi River basin. Using previously studied oxbow lakes in the lower White River basin, Arkansas, we compared current(2017, “post-carp” establishment) f.sh assemblages to historical(2002, “pre-carp” establishment) f.sh assemblages. f.sh assemblages were comprehensively assessed using multiple gears, including boat electrof.shing, mini-f.ke nets, and experimental small-mesh gill *** T-tests suggested that f.sh assemblage indices of.richness, diversity, evenness, and dominance were of.en greater(P f.ected by boat electrof.shing and experimental gill nets. However, all indices were generally similar(P > 0.05) between the pre-carp and post-carp period with f.sh assemblages depicted using mini-f.ke nets. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling analyses indicated that f.sh assemblages dif.ered structurally between pre-carp and post-carp periods. Assemblage dif.erences were linked to both small and large abundance changes f.r more than 20 species. Abundances of.gizzard shad(Dorosoma cepedianum), emerald shiner(Notropis atherinoides), pugnose minnow(Opsopoeodus emiliae), crappies(Pomoxis spp.), bluegill(Lepomis macrochirus), orangespotted sunf.sh(L. humilis), and yellow bass(Morone mississippiensis) declined between the pre-carp and postcarp periods. Conversely, abundances of.weed shiner(N. texanus), pallid shiner(Hybopsis amnis), longear sunf.sh(L. megalotis), buf.alof.shes(Ictiobus spp.), and gars(Lepisosteus spp.) generally increased during the same *** Although not possible to conclude assemblage shif.s were entirely related to bigheaded carps due to the absence of.an appropriate ref.rence system where carps did not establish, the wide establishment of.these carps is one of.the most pervasive changes to have occurred in the lower White

The Ef.ects of.Zinc Sulf.te on the in Vitro Digestibility of.f.eds in Cervids

The captive white-tailed deer industry has an estimated impact of.1.6 billion USD in the state of.Texas alone. However, nutritional requirements f.r cervids are determined through research based on sheep and goats. The objective of.this study was to determine the ef.ects of.zinc on dif.erences in dry matter digestibility in vitro f.r white-tailed does (Odocoileus virginianus). Deer (n = 2) were ethically harvested, rumens were collected, and placed into a cooler containing warm water. Rumen contents were agitated, and f.uid was f.ltered using cheese cloth while applying CO2. f.uid was placed into f.ur separate incubator jars with f.lter bags containing a 1:1 alf.lf. to coastal hay blend. Zinc doses of.0.073 mg/kg/d equivalents were added to two of.the jars ( Zn), and the additional two jars received 0.00 mg/kg/d (CON). f.llowing 48 h of.incubation, in vitro true digestibility (IVTD) showed no signif.cant dif.erences between the control and the treatment groups. Average dry matter digested in vitro was 91.87% and 95.13%, respectively. There were no dif.erences detected in ADf. NDf. IVTD, or OM between the treatment groups. While no detectable dif.erences were observed in this study, this methodology did prove to be viable and f.nctional f.r microbial digestion in vitro. This study can be replicated with multiple experimental units to conf.rm the observations of.increased digestibility. f.rmal nutritional guidelines can be created to allow f.r more ef.icient f.eding of.cervids thereby reducing f.ed costs and continuing the growth of.the captive deer industry.

Thermoluminescence characterization of.natural and synthetic irradiated Ce-monazites

The thermoluminescence(TL)emission of.synthetic and natural Ce-monazites was characterized here to determine the potential application in the identif.cation of.microscopic def.cts f.om a qualitative point of.view trying to link each TL peak to a chemical-physical *** kinetic parameters that lead the luminescence processes were calculated by means of.variable heating rate and computing glow curve deconvolution methods and allow identif.ing three groups of.components at~90,130 and 290℃(f.r the mineral sample)and~90,170,220,270 and 320℃(f.r the synthetic CePO_(4):Nd_(0.20),La_(0.25)).The main dif.erences appreciated in these complex TL curves are mainly due to(i)the content of.impurities(natural sample contains lanthanides as well as U 0.60%and Th 5.22%)and(ii)the degree of.crystallinity of.the samples which is directly related to the type of.impurities(synthetic monazite relies only on Nd and La).The behavior of.the dose response in the range of.1-8 Gy is similar f.r both samples;the TL intensity increases linearly as the dose increases without changes in the position of.the maxima,denoting f.rst-order kinetic luminescence *** peak could be mostly associated with structural def.cts(i.e.,phase transitions),chemical reactions(i.e.,Ce3+?Ce4+redox reaction,dehydration or dehydroxylation processes)or intrinsic def.cts(i.e.,f.enkel def.cts,ODCs or NBOHCs).

The search f.r new biomarkers predictive of.type 2 diabetes currently constitutes a research avenue in Bioclinical. Total homocysteine remains a pref.rred target due to its involvement in the occurrence of.degenerative complications in type 2 diabetics. The aim of.this work was to study hyperhomocysteinemia and other biochemical markers associated with T2D in the Congolese population. This was an analytical case-control study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. The study population consisted of.150 subjects including 100 T2D patients and 50 control subjects. The main clinical data were collected on a pre-established f.rm. Homocysteine determination was carried out by the sandwich ELISA method. The other biochemical markers were measured by colorimetric enzymatic methods. Hyperhomocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of.the entire study population. Type 2 diabetics had a f.equency of.hyperhomocysteinemia of.36% (36/100) and control 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The mean hyperhomocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol/l with extremes ranging f.om 18 to 103 μmol/l. Means of.biological markers between diabetics and controls showed a statistically signif.cant dif.erence (p = 0.01). The risk f.ctors associated with this HHcy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary lif.style (OR = 3.4) and glycosylated hemoglobin (OR = 12) with a p-value f.Congolese type 2 diabetic patients.

Estimation of.monthly global solar radiation over twelve major cities of.Libya

This study aims to estimate monthly averaged daily horizontal global solar *** climatological data collected at twelve major cities located across Libya’s map were used to establish 7 dif.erent empirical *** empirical coef.icients of.the models were calculated using the least square *** accuracy of.the models was evaluated using dif.erent statistical criteria such as Taylor diagram,mean absolute percentage error,MAPE,and root mean square error,*** results indicated that the sunshine duration-based models are more accurate than air temperature-based models,and the best perf.rmance was obtained by the quadratic regression model f.r all twelve Libyan ***,this regression model can be used f.r the prediction of.monthly mean horizontal global solar radiation at a specif.c site across Libya’s regions with minimum ***,the results of.the global solar irradiance produced by this method can be used f.r designing solar systems applications.
