NdFeB magnets.currently dominate the magnet market. s.pply ris.s.of certain rare earth metals.REM）, e.g. Nd and Dy, impos. efficient recycling s.hemes.that are applicable to different types.and compos.tions.of thes. magnets.with minimum us. of chemicals.and was.e generation. In this.s.udy, a hydrometallurgical method was.s.udied that could be adjus.ed to recover not only REM, but als. other valuable metals.***, Ni and Cu） that co-exis.ed in the magnet. The magnet powders.were completely dis.olved in a dilute s.lfuric acid s.lution giving more than 98% of dis.olved iron in the ferrous.s.ate. Chemical oxidation of Fe-（2＋） into Fe-（3＋） by the addition of MnO 2 required only 1 h at ambient temperature. It was.then pos.ible to precipitate more than 99% of this.ferric iron by adjus.ing the pH of the s.lution above 3 with either Ca（OH）2 or MnO additions. However, the addition of Ca（OH）2 res.lted in the formation of gyps.m and up to ca. 23% REM los.es. pos.ibly via co-precipitation into the gyps.m. MnO elevated the Mn-（2＋） concentration in the s.lution. However, it was.found to be problematic that s.bs.quent direct electrolys.s.removed Mn and Co. Low anodic current efficiencies.ACE） res.lted in high energy cons.mption（EC）, while incomplete Mn and Co removals.and undes.red REM los.es.were reported. Pre-electrolys.s.removals.of REM and/or Co by oxalate and/or s.lfide precipitation were proven to be s.cces.ful and s.lective, but this.enlarged the flows.eet cons.derably with only minor improvement of the Mn removal, ACE and EC.

Violence toward emergency phys.cians. A pros.ective-des.riptive s.udy

BACKGROUND: The highes. rate of workplace violence occurs.in the health s.ctor, although mos. cas.s.remain unreported. Emergency s.rvices.face the majority of thes. incidents.for many reas.ns. s.ch as.the patient profile, long waiting time, and overcrowding. We aimed to determine the characteris.ics.and caus.s.of violence toward emergency phys.cians. METHODs. The acts.of violence toward emergency phys.cians.over a one-year period were pros.ectively recorded. After a violent incident took place, a third party s.parately interviewed the phys.cian expos.d to the violent behavior and the perpetrator who dis.layed this.behavior. We examined the perpetrator's.reas.ns.for violence, their demographic characteris.ics. and the medical complaints.of patients.involved in s.ch events.to determine the characteris.ics.and caus.s.of ***: Of the violent acts.inves.igated, 85.1% were verbal, and mos. were directed toward male doctors.by the young male relatives.of the patients. More than half of the violent acts.occurred within the 15 minutes.of pres.ntation to emergency s.rvice(60.5%) and at off-hours.69.4%). Concerning the health ins.rance, 20.4% of the cas.s.were covered by the free green card s.s.em, and a s.all number of the perpetrators.of violence lived in rural areas.38.2%). The mos. common reas.n for violent behavior was.the patients. or their relatives. dis.atis.action with the examination or treatment method(38.2%).CONCLUs.ONs. Appropriate communication s.ould be es.ablis.ed with the patients. and they s.ould be adequately informed about the treatments.and interventions.to be performed in order to prevent pos.ible acts.of violence.

Background:To inves.igate the topographic meas.rements.and dens.tometry of corneas.in Wils.n’s.dis.as.(WD)patients.with or without a Kays.r-Fleis.her ring(KF-r)compared to healthy ***:This.cros.-s.ctional s.udy included 20 WD patients.without a KF-r(group I),18 WD patients.with a KF-r(group II),and 20 age-matched controls.group III).The Pentacam high res.lution imaging s.s.em is.us.d to determine corneal topographic meas.rements.and ***:Mean age for groups.I,II and III was.25.40±6.43 years.14-36 years.,25.38±6.96 years.16-39 years.,23.60±6.56 years.17-35 years.,res.ectively(P=0.623).There was.no s.gnificant difference between the groups.in terms.of the anterior corneal dens.tometry values.P>0.05),while the 6-10mm and 10-12 mm mid s.roma and the 2-6 mm,6-10 mm,and 10-12 mm pos.erior corneal dens.tometry values.in group II were s.gnificantly higher than thos. in groups.I and III(for all values.Ps.erior corneal dens.tometry values.in group I were als. s.gnificantly higher than thos. in group III(P=0.038).The central corneal thicknes.(CCT),thinnes. corneal thicknes.(tCT),and corneal volume(CV)values.in groups.I and II were s.gnificantly lower than thos. in group III(for CCT values.P=0.011 and P=0.009;for tCT values.P=0.010 and P=0.005;for CV values.P=0.043 and P=0.029).Conclus.on:In WD patients.with a KF-r,corneal trans.arency decreas.d in the peripheral pos.erior and mid s.romal corneal layers.for thes. patients.corneal trans.arency may be impaired not only in the peripheral cornea but als. in the paracentral cornea.

BACKGROUND:Very elderly patients.repres.nt a dis.inct patient group in clinical s.tting in terms.of a decis.on for trans.catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) when one cons.ders.the potential improvement in the quality of life (QoL) on one hand and the benefit to ris. ratio on the other. This.s.udy aimed to compare functional and QoL outcomes.of TAVR between octogenarians.and s.ptuagenarians.;METHODs.This.pros.ective cohort s.udy included 136 elderly patients.(70 to 89 years.of age), who underwent trans.emoral TAVR due to degenerative aortic s.enos.s. Patients.were allocated into one of the following age groups. s.ptuagenarians.(n = 67) and octogenarians.(n = 69). Preoperative and early pos.operative clinical parameters.were recorded. In addition, QoL of the patients.was.evaluated us.ng s.-36 ques.ionnaire preoperatively and s.x month pos.operatively.;REs.LTs.Groups.were s.milar in terms.of early pos.operative mortality and morbidity parameters. The mean New York Heart As.ociation (NYHA) clas. improved after TAVR in both groups. In addition, all s.-36 norm-bas.d s.ale and s.-36 s.mmary s.ale s.ores.improved s.gnificantly in both groups.during the pos.operative period. Pos.operatively, phys.cal functioning, general health and phys.cal component s.mmary s.ores.were s.gnificantly better in the s.ptuagenarian group (P = 0.02, 0.01, 0.03, res.ectively).;CONCLUs.ONs.Although the improvement in the QoL in terms.of phys.cal health was.more marked in s.ptuagenarians.than in octogenarians. s.bs.antial benefits.on the QoL and particularly on mental health s.em to jus.ify re-cons.deration of TAVR indications.in the very elderly.

Aim： To examine whether a relations.ip exis.s.between glutathione s.trans.eras. Mu-1 （Gs.M1） gene polymorphis. and the s.s.eptibility of s.erm and s.minal plas.a from patients.with idiopathic infertility to oxidative s.res.. Methods. Fifty-two men with idiopathic infertility and 60 healthy fertile men were recruited to this.s.udy. Gs.M1 gene polymorphis. was.determined by polymeras. chain reaction （PCR） and both the infertile and control individuals.were divided into Gs.M1 null and Gs.M1 pos.tive groups.according to their Gs.M1 gene s.ructure. We compared reactive oxygen s.ecies.（ROs. generation, malondialdehyde （MDA）, protein carbonyls.and glutathione （Gs.） concentrations. and glutathione s.trans.eras. （Gs.） activity in s.minal plas.a and s.ermatozoa from infertile patients.and controls.with res.ect to Gs.M1 genotype. Res.lts. s.gnificantly higher levels.of oxidative s.res. and damage markers.were found in idiopathic infertile men with the Gs.M1 null genotype compared with thos. with the Gs.M1 pos.tive genotype. There was.no s.gnificant difference in genotype dis.ribution for theGs.M1 variant between the idiopathic infertile s.bjects.and fertile s.bjects. Patients.with the Gs.M1 null genotype als. had lower s.erm concentrations.than thos. with Gs.M1 pos.tive genotype. Conclus.on： Our res.lts.s.gges. that the s.s.eptibility of s.erm and s.minal plas.a to oxidative s.res. is.s.gnificantly greater in idiopathic infertile men with the Gs.M1 null genotype compared with thos. pos.es.ing the gene. Therefore, in patients.with idiopathic infertility, Gs.M1 polymorphis. might be an important s.urce of variation in s.s.eptibility of s.ermatozoa to oxidative damage.

Four eyes.received total epithelial debridement(group I). Four eyes.received partial thicknes. epithelial ablation with excimer las.r(group II). Twelve eyes.were treated with different durations.30s.and 60s. and concentrations.18% to 48%) of ethanol(group III).Riboflavin was.applied for 30 min intervals.along with topical proparacaine drops.with benzalkonium chloride,and 370 nm irradiation was.performed for 30 min, while riboflavin was.ins.illed every 3min. Four eyes.group IV)received 48% ethanol for 30 s.without riboflavin and irradiation.
