Supercapacitors display promising electrochemical performance with high power density and excellent cycle stability.However,their low energy density limits their advancement in a broader range of applications.To enhance their energy density,we proposed self-assembled spinel NiMn2S4nanoflakes grown on nickel foam which we successfully prepared by a facile hydrothermal method.The NiMn2S4electrode delivers a high capacitance of 2096.7 F g^(-1)at 1.0 A g^(-1),with an exceptional rate capability(~720.6 F g^(-1)at a very high current density of 100 A g^(-1))and good cycle stability(~85.1%retention of the initial capacitance after 7000 cycles with the Coulombic efficiency around 100%).The as-fabricated asymmetric supercapacitors based on NiMn2S4nanoflakes//active carbon demonstrate an energy density of 73.6 W h kg^(-1)at 800.5 W kg^(-1)and adequate cycling performance of~84.6%capacitance retention at 15 A g^(-1)after 10000 cycles.The results reveal that the nanostructured NiMn2S4is an excellent electrode material for high-performance energy storage applications.

Background:Shunt systems are used to provide cerebrospinal fluid drainage in the treatment of hydrocephalus.Recently,antibiotic-impregnated shunt systems are used to prevent colonization in the ventriculoperitoneal catheters.Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)is the most common causative microorganism of shunt infections.The aim of the study is to investigate effects of several substances on MRSA biofilms in the ventriculoperitoneal catheters.Methods:The present study consists of mainly eight groups(each has two subgroups as antibiotic-impregnated and nonantibiotic-impregnated catheters).In addition,each group contains six molds using MRSA strains.In this study,daptomycin(DAPT)(2 mg/ml),vancomycin(VAN)(10 mg/ml),linezolid(LIN)(2 mg/ml),N-acetylcysteine(NAC)(6 mg/ml),and various combinations of these substances were used to evaluate the treatment against MRSA using scanning electron microscope(SEM)images and microbiological enumeration.Results:The colony count in the antibiotic-impregnated samples significantly decreased compared to nonantibiotic-impregnated samples in the MRSA,MRSA+DAPT,and MRSA+LIN groups(p<0.01),respectively.Conversely,the colony count in antibiotic-impregnated samples significantly increased compared to nonantibiotic-impregnated samples in NAC+DAPT and NAC+VAN groups(p<0.01),respectively.Conclusions:The results showed that the use of antibiotic-impregnated catheters has a significant impact on the prevention of infection whereas the combination of NAC and DAPT showed better antibiofilm and antibacterial effects than other combinations on the prevention and treatment of nonantibiotic-impregnated catheter infections.

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation(KT)and end-stage renal disease(ESRD)requiring hemodialysis(HD)increase the incidence of morbidity and mortality associated with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection.The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative effect on the psychological well-being of COVID-19 patients,especially those with a high-risk of infectious complications.The prevalence of anxiety and depression is known to be higher in ESRD patients undergoing HD than in the general population.On the other hand,KT recipients have different treatment requirements compared to HD patients,including adherence to complex immunosuppressive regimens and compliance with follow-up appointments.We hypothesized that psychosocial difficulties and stressors would differ between ESRD patients undergoing HD and KT recipients during the COVID-19 pandemic.If so,each group may require different interventions to maintain their psychosocial well-being.AIM To measure and compare the levels of stress,anxiety,depression,concerns related to the pandemic,and coping skills in ESRD patients undergoing HD and KT recipients during the COVID-19 pandemic.METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed at a training and research hospital.The study included ESRD patients undergoing HD(HD group)and KT recipients(with stable graft function for≥6 mo prior to the study)(KT group).Patients completed a demographics form,the impact of events scale,the hospital anxiety and depression scale,and the Connor-Davidson resilience scale.Laboratory findings at the last clinical follow-up were recorded.Theχ^(2)test was used to assess the relationship between the HD and KT groups and the categorical variables.The relationships between the scale scores were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test,and differences between the groups were analyzed using the independent groups t-test.RESULTS The study included 125 patients,of which 89(71.2%)were in the HD group and 36(28.8%)were in the KT group.The levels of anxiety and depression were higher in the HD group than in the

In this study,an attempt was made to manufacture an AZ31–Al5005 laminated composite by explosive welding.A mixture of ammonium nitrate(90%),fuel oil(5%),and TNT(5%)was used as the explosive.The detonation velocity of the explosive material was approximately 3100 m•s^(−1).The microstructure and mechanical and corrosion properties of the joint were comparatively investigated.Microstructural characterisation of the joint was conducted by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The mechanical properties were determined using micro-Vickers hardness,tensile,and Charpy impact tests.In addition,electrochemical tests were conducted on the AZ31–Al5005 laminated composite and the individual components to determine their corrosion resistance.The corrosion behaviours of the structures were determined in a 3.5%NaCl solution at room temperature using potentiodynamic scanning(PDS).The metallurgical structure and mechanical properties of the joints were within the acceptable limits.

Rosemary(Rosmarinus officinalis L.)is an important perennial medicinal and aromatic plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family.Rosemary is widely produced in Turkey for its oil which can be extracted from the plants when flowers are in buds.In Turkey,a significant amount of domestic and foreign trade of rosemary is conducted.In 2018-2020,2088 t of rosemary plants were imported,while in the same years 2077 t were exported.In this study,the performance indexes of a threshing and separating unit designed according to the physicomechanical properties of the rosemary were determined.The operating parameters of the machine were determined at three different moisture contents and adjusted according to the harvest moisture values.The threshing efficiency,work efficiency,power requirement,and specific energy consumption values of the threshing unit were determined,while separating efficiency,work efficiency and specific power consumption of separating unit of the developed system were determined.According to the study results,the threshing efficiency of the rosemary plant varied between 44.00%and 96.97%.Work efficiency of the thresher varied between 1.18 and 15.34 kg/h.Power requirements and specific energy consumption of the threshing unit were obtained as 0.19-1.05 kW and 0.02-0.37 kW·h/h,respectively.On the other hand,the separating efficiency of the separating unit for the rosemary plant varied between 44.27%and 85.24%.Maximum and minimum values of work efficiency were found as 0.75 kg/h and 5.52 kg/h.Specific power consumption of the unit ranged from 3.95 to 39.95 kW/kg.

Despite a vast amount of different methods, protocols and cryoprotective agents(CPA), stem cells are often frozen using standard protocols that have beenoptimized for use with cell lines, rather than with stem cells. Relatively fewcomparative studies have been performed to assess the effects of cryopreservationmethods on these stem cells. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been a key agent forthe development of cryobiology and has been used universally for cryopreservation.However, the use of DMSO has been associated with in vitro and in vivotoxicity and has been shown to affect many cellular processes due to changes inDNA methylation and dysregulation of gene expression. Despite studies showingthat DMSO may affect cell characteristics, DMSO remains the CPA of choice, bothin a research setting and in the clinics. However, numerous alternatives to DMSOhave been shown to hold promise for use as a CPA and include albumin,trehalose, sucrose, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol and many more. Here, wewill discuss the use, advantages and disadvantages of these CPAs for cryopreservationof different types of stem cells, including hematopoietic stem cells,mesenchymal stromal/stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.

Combine harvesters are important in that grain and legumes directly affect the production economy.On the other hand,it forms an important branch of the agricultural machinery sector.There are many unknown constraints on machines when harvesting with a combine harvester,including the noise and vibration that occur in the combine harvester thresher.This study aims to analyze noise and vibration in conventional combine harvesters using sensors.Two accelerometers were installed on each side of the concave and two microphones were used to register the noise of the threshing process.The result showed that effects of machine speeds(3.5 km/h,4.5 km/h and 5.5 km/h)and rotor speeds(950 r/min,850 r/min and 950 r/min)were significantly important for the mean range values of the left and right accelerometer in the X,Y and Z direction.The machine’s speed and rotor speed were not significantly important for the mean range values of the left and right microphones.

In this study,a groundwater exploration survey was conducted using the DC Resistivity(DCR)method in a hydrogeological setting containing a perched aquifer.DCR data were gathered and an electrical tomography section was recovered using conventional four-electrode instruments with a Schlumberger array and a two-dimensional(2D)inversion scheme.The proposed scheme was tested over a synthetic threedimensional(3D)subsurface model before deploying it in a field situation.The proposed method indicated that gathering data with simple four-electrode instruments at stations along a line and 2D inversion of datasets at multiple stations can recover depth intervals of the studied aquifer in the hydrogeological setting even if it has a 3D structure.In this study,2D inversion of parallel profiles formed a pseudo-3D volume of the subsurface resistivity structures and mapped out multiple resistive(>25 ohm·m)bodies at shallow(between 50-100 m)and deep sections(>150 m).In general,the proposed method is convenient to encounter geological units that have limited vertical and spatial extensions in any direction and presents resistivity contrast from groundwater-bearing geologic materials.

Melatonin alleviates oxidative stress,inflammation,apoptosis,and DNA damage in acrylamide-induced nephrotoxicity in rats

Objective:To investigate the effects of melatonin on renal inflammation,oxidative stress,apoptosis,as well as DNA and tissue damage in acrylamide-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.Methods:Fifty male rats were randomly divided into five groups.The control group received distilled water by gastric lavage for 11days and the acrylamide group was administered acrylamide(50 mg/kg,i.g.)for 11 days.The MEL10+ACR and MEL20+ACR groups received intraperitoneal melatonin 10 and 20 mg/kg,respectively,for 11 days,and acrylamide(50 mg/kg,i.g.)was administered 1h after melatonin injection.The MEL20 group was injected with melatonin(20 mg/kg)for 11 days.Kidney function tests were performed and biochemical and inflammatory parameters were determined.In addition,histopathological,immunohistochemical,and immunofluorescence examinations were carried out.Results:Melatonin significantly abated acrylamide-induced rise in serum urea and creatinine levels.Acrylamide caused oxidative stress,inflammation,apoptosis,as well as DNA and tissue damage in the kidneys.Melatonin treatment alleviated acrylamide-induced renal damage by exhibiting antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and antiapoptotic effects.Moreover,melatonin significantly ameliorated acrylamide-caused histopathological changes in kidney tissue.Conclusions:Melatonin attenuates acrylamide-induced renal oxidative stress,inflammation,apoptosis,and DNA damage in rats.
