Immunopotentiality of Ayurvedic polyherbal formulations “Saribadi” and “Anantamul Salsa” with augmentation of IgM production and lymphocytes proliferation:A preliminary study

Objective:To assess the immunopotentiality of Ayurvedic polyherbal preparations,"Saribadi" and "Anantamul Salsa".Methods: Freshly prepared BALB/c mice splenocytes were cultured with "Saribadi" or"Anantamul Salsa" treatment [doses of 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%, 1.50%, 2.00%,3.00% and 4.00%(v/v)] at 37C for 5 days. The immunoglobulin M(IgM) production and lymphocytes proliferation were determined by ELISA and MTT methods, *** contamination was assessed by treating the preparations with polymyxin ***: The doses of "Saribadi" [0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00%(v/v)] significantly increased IgM productions(0.966, 0.728, 0.695 and 0.615 mg/m L vs. control 0.265 mg/m L)and lymphocytes proliferation [absorbance 0.311, 0.394, 0.372 and 0.334 optical density(OD) vs. control 0.162 OD]. Similarly, the doses of "Anantamul Salsa" [0.50%, 0.75%,1.00% and 1.50%(v/v)] promoted IgM productions(0.933, 0.919, 0.917 and 0.892 mg/m L vs. control 0.502 mg/m L) and the doses of "Anantamul Salsa" [0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%,1.50%, 2.00%, and 3.00%(v/v)] stimulated lymphocytes proliferation(absorbance 0.395,0.326, 0.440, 0.398, 0.452 and 0.355 OD vs. control 0.199 OD). The activity of "Saribadi"and "Anantamul Salsa" was not retarded by the treatment of preparations with polymyxin ***: Immunomodulatory activity of "Saribadi" and "Anantamul Salsa" was unveiled for the first time. "Saribadi" and "Anantamul Salsa" possess immunostimulating potential acting through the induction of lymphocyte proliferation and IgM *** preparations may be useful in strengthening immune responses. However, further cellular and in vivo studies are required.

RFID-Based WSN Communication System with ESPAR Array Antenna for SIR Improvement

To improve the received signal strength(RSS) and signal-to-interference and noise ratio(SINR),electronically steerable parasitic array radiator(ESPAR)array antennas are designed for the ultra-high frequency(UHF) radio frequency identification(RFID) communication systems that can provide very low power consumption in sensor tag edge. Higher gain, appropriate radiation pattern, and most power-efficient array antennas are completely essential in these sensor network *** a result, it is suggested that ESPAR array antennas be used on the RFID reader side to reduce interference, multipath fading, and extend communication range. Additionally, a system architecture for UHF-RFID wireless sensor network(WSN) communication is put forth in order to prevent interference from antenna nulling technology, in which ESPAR array antennas could be capable of generating nulls. The array antennas within the system demonstrate high efficiency, appropriate radiation patterns, and gains(9.63 dBi, 10.2 dBi, and 12 dBi) from one array to other arrays. The nulling technique using the proposed array antennas also provides better SINR values(31.63 dB, 33.2 dB, and 36 dB). Finally, the nulling space matrix is studied in relation to the channel modeling. Therefore, the suggested approach might offer better communications in sensor networking systems.

Understanding gaseous reduction in swine manure resulting from nanoparticle treatments under anaerobic storage conditions

Manure is an impending source of carbon(C), sulfur(S) and water(H_2 O). Consequently,microbial populations utilize these constituents to produce methane(CH4), carbon dioxide(CO_2), greenhouse gases(GHGs), and hydrogen sulfide(H_2 S). Application of nanoparticles(NPs) to stored manure is an emerging GHG mitigation technique. In this study, two NPs: nano zinc oxide(nZnO) and nano silver(nAg) were tested in swine manure stored under anaerobic conditions to determine their effectiveness in mitigating gaseous emissions and total gas production. The biological sources of gas production, i.e., microbial populations were characterized via Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction(qPCR) analysis. Additionally, pH, redox, and VFAs were determined using standard methods. Each treatment of the experiment was replicated three times and NPs were applied at a dose of 3 g/L of manure. Also, headspace gas from all treatment replicates were analyzed for CH_4 and CO_2 gas concentrations using an SRI-8610 Gas Chromatograph and H_2 S concentrations were measured using a Jerome 631 X meter. Nanoparticles tested in this study reduced the cumulative gas volume by 16%–79% compared to the control. Among the NPs tested, only nZnO consistently reduced GHG concentrations by 37%–97%. Reductions in H_2 S concentrations ranged from 87% to97%. Gaseous reductions were likely due to decreases in the activity and numbers of specific gas producing methanogenic archaea and sulfate reducing bacterial(SRB)species.

Nanoparticles in mitigating gaseous emissions from liquid dairy manure stored under anaerobic condition

A number of mitigation techniques exist to reduce the emissions of pollutant gases and greenhouse gases(GHGs) from anaerobic storage of livestock manure. Nanoparticle(NP)application is a promising mitigating treatment option for pollutant gases, but limited research is available on the mode of NP application and their effectiveness in gaseous emission reduction. In this study, zinc silica nanogel(ZnSNL), copper silica nanogel(CuSNL), and N-acetyl cysteine(NACL) coated zinc oxide quantum dot(Qdot) NPs were compared to a control lacking NPs. All three NPs tested significantly reduced gas production and concentrations compared to non-treated manure. Overall, cumulative gas volumes were reduced by 92.73%–95.83%, and concentrations reduced by 48.98%–99.75% for H_2S, and 20.24%–99.82% for GHGs. Thus, application of NPs is a potential treatment option for mitigating pollutant and GHG emissions from anaerobically stored manure.

Capturing transition and non-transition flows with a new shear stress transport model

A new Shear Stress Transport(SST)k-ω model is devised to integrate salient features of both the non-transitional SST k-ω model and correlation-based γ-Re_(θ) transition *** exceptionally simplified approach is applied to extend the New SST(NSST)model capabilities toward transition/non-transition ***’s stress-intensity factor R_(b)=|-uv|/k can be parameterized with the wall-distance dependent Reynolds number Re_(y)=√ky/v;however,as the Re_(y)is replaced by a“flow-structure-adaptive”parameter R_(μ)=v_(T)/v,the resulting R_(b)is capable of capturing various transition phenomena *** prospective stress-intensity parameter R_(b)=R_(b)(Re_(y),R_(μ))is incorporated in the constitutive relations for eddy-viscosity v_(T) and production term P_(k).The proposed formulation is intrinsically plausible,having a dramatic impact on the prediction of bypass,separation-induced and natural transitions together with non-transitional *** extra viscous-production term P_(k)^(lim) is added with the k-equation to ensure proper generation of k at the viscous sublayer when computing separation-induced transition over a Low-Reynolds Number(LRN)*** demonstrate that the NSST k-ω model maintains an excellent consistency with both SST k-ω and γ-Re_(θ) models.

Petrophysical properties assessment using wireline logs data at well#3 of Srikail gas field,Bangladesh

This study focused on the quantitative analysis of the petrophysical parameters in characterizing the reservoir properties of the Srikail gas field using multi-scale wireline *** parameters(shale volume,porosity,water saturation and hydrocarbon saturation)were estimated from the combination of gamma ray log,resistivity log,density log and neutron log for three hydrocarbon(gas)-bearing zones at well#*** the first time,log records at 0.1 m and 0.2 m intervals were read for this *** showed the average shale volume is 21.07%,53.67%and 51.71%for zone-1,zone-2 and zone-3,*** these zones,the estimated average porosity was 35.89%,29.83%and 28.76%,*** average water saturation of 31.54%,16.83%and 23.39%and average hydrocarbon saturation of 68.46%,83.17%and 76.61%were calculated for zone-1,zone-2 and zone-3,*** zone-2 is regarded the most productive zone of well#*** was found that the values of some parameters(porosity,hydrocarbon saturation and permeability)are higher than the existing ***,this study confirmed that the log reading at minute/close interval provides better quantitive values of the reservoir’s petrophysical *** is expected that this result will contribute to the national gas field development program in future.

Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment of Nepal using multiple seismic source models

The potential for devastating earthquakes in the Himalayan orogeny has long been recognized. The 2015 MW7.8 Gorkha, Nepal earthquake has heightened the likelihood that major earthquakes will occur along this orogenic belt in the future. Reliable seismic hazard assessment is a critical element in development of policy for seismic hazard mitigation and risk reduction. In this study, we conduct probabilistic seismic hazard assessment using three different seismogenic source models(smoothed gridded, linear, and areal sources)based on the complicated tectonics of the study area. Two sets of ground motion prediction equations are combined in a standard logic tree by taking into account the epistemic uncertainties in hazard estimation. Long-term slip rates and paleoseismic records are also incorporated in the linear source model. Peak ground acceleration and spectral acceleration at 0.2 s and 1.0 s for 2% and 10%probabilities of exceedance in 50 years are estimated. The resulting maps show significant spatial variation in seismic hazard levels. The region of the Lesser Himalaya is found to have high seismic hazard potential. Along the Main Himalayan Thrust from east to west beneath the Main Central Thrust, large earthquakes have occurred regularly in history; hazard values in this region are found to be higher than those shown on existing hazard maps. In essence, the combination of long span earthquake catalogs and multiple seismogenic source models gives improved seismic hazard constraints in Nepal.

Variability in total antioxidant capacity, antioxidant leaf pigments and foliage yield of vegetable amaranth

Twenty vegetable amaranth genotypes were evaluated for total antioxidant capacity, antioxidant leaf pigments, vitamins, and selection of suitable genotypes for extraction of juice in a randomized complete block design（RCBD） with three replications. Vegetable amaranth was rich in chlorophyll, β-cyanins, β-xanthins, betalains, carotene, ascorbic acid and total antioxidant. The genotypes VA14, VA16, VA18, VA15, and VA20 could be selected as amaranth vegtable varieties with high yields and abundance antioxidant leaf pigments and vitamins to produce juice. The genotypes VA13 and VA19 had above-average foliage yield and high antioxidant profiles while the genotypes VA2, VA3, VA9, VA11, VA12, and VA17 had a high antioxidant profiles and below-average foliage yield. These genotypes could be used as a donor parent for integration of potential high antioxidant profiles genes into other genotypes. The correlation study revealed a strong positive association among all the antioxidant leaf pigments, total antioxidant capacity and foliage yield. Selection based on total antioxidant capacity, antioxidant leaf pigments could economically viable to improve the yield potential of vegetable amaranth genotypes. Total carotene and ascorbic acid exhibited insignificant genotypic correlation with all the traits except total antioxidant capacity. This indicates that selection for antioxidant vitamins might be possible without compromising yield loss.

Sensitivity analysis of the DehumReq model to evaluate the impact of predominant factors on dehumidification requirement of greenhouses in cold regions

In this study,the sensitivity of a novel dehumidification requirement model(DehumReq)is analyzed to evaluate the effect of the predominant factors on the dehumidification needs of the *** hourly dehumidification demand and sensitivity coefficient(SC)are estimated for three different seasons:warm(July),mild(May),and cold(November),by using the local sensitivity analysis *** on SC values,the solar radiation,air exchange,leaf area index(LAI),and indoor setpoints(temperature,relative humidity(RH),and water vapor partial pressure(WVPP))have significant impact on the dehumidifi-cation needs,and the impact varies from season to *** parameters have a higher SC in summer,whereas solar radiation and LAI have a higher SC in mild *** dehumidification load increases 4 times of its base value with increasing solar radiation by 200 W/m^(2),and the highest LAI(10)caused 5 times increment of the *** changing of WVPP from its base value(1.5 kPa)to maximum(2.9 kPa)reduces the load 70%in *** exchange was found to be the most crucial parameter because it is the main dehumidification approach that has a large range and is easily adjustable for any *** air exchange by ventilation or infiltration will reduce the dehumidification load to zero in May and November and minimizes it to only nighttime load in *** the other parameters,higher ambient air RH and indoor air speed will result in higher the dehumidification load;whereas higher inner surface condensation will result in lower dehumidifi-cation *** result of this study will assist in the selection of the most efficient moisture control strategies and techniques for greenhouse humidity control.

Test and performance optimization of nozzle inclination angle and swirl combustor in a low-tar biomass gasifier:a biomass power generation system perspective

A nozzle inclination angle and swirl combustor inside the low-tar biomass(LTB)gasifier reactor were tested and optimized to evaluate these effects on tar reduction to design tar-free producer *** tar reduction process is mainly based on the concept of a swirling flow created by the nozzle inclination angle,with the inclination angle of 55◦to the radial line,allowing good mixing between pyrolysis gases and gasifying agents.A separate swirl combustor has created large internal annular and reverses flow zones with the help of swirl flow,resulting in homogenized temperature inside the combustor and providing longer residence time;both have a positive effect on the combustion of mixed gasifying air-pyrolysis gases by the thermal cracking in the partial oxidation *** ratio(RR)and combustion degree of volatiles are the two optimization parameters for evaluating the performance of NIA and swirl *** result observed that outstanding tar reduction occurred in this novel *** 86.5 and 12.8%of tar compounds are broken down in the partial oxidation zone and pyrolysis zone using the novel swirl combustor and NIA,respectively;gas outlet has observed producer gas having tar concentration of less than 1%.The optimization results reveal that a lower recycling ratio(recycle gas/gasifying air)and a higher combustion degree of volatiles perform better in biomass ***,this system generated producer gas with the tar concentration at an extremely low level of 7.4 mg/Nm^(3)for a biomass moisture content of 9%and appeared the lower heating value of 4.6–5.1 MJ/Nm^(3).This lower tar concentration might be directly coupled with an internal combustion engine or a gas turbine for power generation.
