Introduction Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a disabling disorder that signifi-cantly affects a patient’s quality of life[1].Treatments are available,but only 10%of PD patients fully adhere to their treatment regimens[2].Non-adherence is a serious problem linked to worsening symptoms and increased motor fluc-tuations[3-5].Levodopa(LD)remains the most effective treatment for PD[6].However,a single dosing treatment is only effective in the early phase of the *** the severe phase,4-5 years after diagnosis,the therapeutic window of dopamine becomes narrow,and due to its short half-life of between 0.7 and 1.4 h dosing of LD will be required every 2 h[7-9].One way to ameliorate this issue is to co-admin-ister LD with carbidopa(CD),which can increase LD’s oral bioavailability to 40-70%[10].

Aim: To investigate the relationship between germ cell degeneration and apoptosis in cryptorchid rats. Methods: Thirteen 21-day-old Wistar rats were made unilaterally cryptorchid by closing the left inguinal canal. At day 30 (Group 1, n=6) and day 60 (Group 2, n=7) after operation, the testes were removed for histopathological examination. The controls (n=8) were sham operated and were sacrificed at day 60. Germ cell apoptosis was assessed by means of the TUNEL method. Results: Spermatogenesis was arrested and the testicular and seminiferous tubular diameters were significantly reduced In the unilateral undescended testes (UUTs) compared with the contralateral descended testes (CDTs) and the control rats. However, atrophic changes, pathological calcification, necrosis of seminiferous tubule, and absence or sloughing of germ cells were not found in all the animals. The spermatocytes were the main type of germ cells undergoing apoptosis in all the groups. In the UUTs, there was a significant and time-dependent increase in the mean apoptotic index. By 60 days after surgery, increased apoptosis in germ cells was also observed in the CDTs. Conclusion: Apoptosis is the predominant mechanism of germ cell death rather than atrophy and necrosis in cryptorchidism.

Estimating Chinese Trade Relationships with the Silk Road Countries

In this paper we discuss the extent to which countries in the Jormer Silk Roaa regions are either reaching or failing to reach their trading potential with China. We estimate a gravity model of trade using a Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood estimator, and estimate trade potential using in-sample, out-of-sample and counterfactual approaches. We compare trade potential using these three methods for Silk Road country trades with China. Next, we compare the estimated trade potential to actual trade, and find that most Silk Road countries are underperforming in their trade with China. However, trade performance against potential improved for most countries over the years 1990-2013. Our results suggest that China＇s former Silk Road trading partners have yet to realize the full potential benefits of China＇s economic growth but that the gap may be narrowing.

Increased gut permeability facilitates the uptake of food allergens into the bloodstream and triggers allergenic *** present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus pentosus S-PT84(S-PT84)and Rubus suavissimus leaf extract(RSLE)against egg ovomucoid(OVM)-uptake in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced increased gut-permeability mice model of food ***-eight weeks old,female C57BL6 mice were continuously fed with LPS(300μg/kg BW),for 3 months to increase gut *** in the expression of sealing claudin-4,increase in the expression of pore-forming claudin-2,and increase in D-mannitol absorption into the blood plasma in the LPS treated groups suggested the increase in gut permeability after LPS *** oral administration of major egg allergen,OVM,after LPS intervention,significantly increased the plasma mast cell protease-1 and OVMspecific IgE compared to the negative control *** results indicated that continuous LPS intervention developed OVM-induced food ***,both the treatment of S-PT84 and RSLE suppressed the claudin-2 expression and the gut permeability induced by ***,S-PT84 and RSLE treatment also reduced the plasma mast cell protease-1 and OVM-specific IgE,indicating the potential beneficial effect against LPS intervention developed OVM-induced food *** findings suggest that S-PT84 and RSLE ameliorated LPS induced gut permeability and food allergic reactions.

We characterized 14 anonymous nuclear loci from Pinus thunbergii Parl., an important pine species native to Japan. One hundred and twenty-six single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） were identified from these loci, giving a frequency of 1 SNP per 51 bp. Nucleotide di- versity （0） ranged from 1.06 × 10^-3 to 11.87 × 10^-3, with all average of 4.99 × 10^-3. Only one locus （mK45） deviated significantly from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Thirteen of 14 loci were applicable in other pine species. These loci will be useful for nucleotide variation studies and will provide material for SNP-based marker development in P. thun- bergii and related species.

AIM:To determine the effectiveness of pancreatic duct(PD) stent placement for the prevention of pancreatitis after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) in high risk ***:Authors conducted a single-blind,randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a pancreatic spontaneous dislodgement stent against post-ERCP pancreatitis,including rates of spontaneous dislodgement and *** defined high risk patients as having any of the following:sphincter of Oddi dysfunction,difficult cannulation,prior history of post-ERCP pancreatitis,pre-cut sphincterotomy,pancreatic ductal biopsy,pancreatic sphincterotomy,intraductal ultrasonography,or a procedure time of more than 30 *** were randomized to a stent group(n = 60) or to a non-stent group(n = 60).An abdominal radiograph was obtained daily to assessspontaneous stent ***-ERCP pancreatitis was diagnosed according to consensus ***:The mean age(± standard deviation) was 67.4 ± 13.8 years and the male:female ratio was 68:*** the stent group,the mean age was 66 ± 13 years and the male:female ratio was 33:27,and in the non-stent group,the mean age was 68 ± 14 years and the male:female ratio was 35:*** were no significant differences between groups with respect to age,gender,final diagnosis,or type of endoscopic *** frequency of post-ERCP pancreatitis in PD stent and non-stent groups was 1.7%(1/60) and 13.3%(8/60),*** severity of pancreatitis was mild in all *** frequency of post-ERCP pancreatitis in the stent group was significantly lower than in the non-stent group(P = 0.032,Fisher's exact test).The rate of hyperamylasemia were 30%(18/60) and 38.3%(23 of 60) in the stent and non-stent groups,respectively(P = 0.05,χ2 test).The placement of a PD stent was successful in all 60 *** rate of spontaneous dislodgement by the third day was 96.7%(58/60),and the median(range) time to dislodgement was 2.1(2-
