Liquefaction proneness of stratified sand-silt layers based on cyclic triaxial tests

Most studies on liquefaction have addressed homogeneous soil strata using sand or sand with fine content without considering soil *** this study,cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on the stratified sand specimens embedded with the silt layers to investigate the liquefaction failures and void-redistribution at confining stress of 100 kPa under stress-controlled *** loosening of underlying sand mass and hindrance to pore-water flow caused localized bulging at the sand-silt *** is observed that at a silt thickness of 0.2H(H is the height of the specimen),nearly 187 load cycles were required to attain liquefaction,which was the highest among all the silt thicknesses with a single silt ***,0.2H is assumed as the optimum silt thickness(t_(opt)).The silt was placed at the top,middle and bottom of the specimen to understand the effect of silt layer *** to the increase in depth of the silt layer from the top position(capped soil state)to the bottom,the cycles to reach liquefaction(N_(cyc,L))increased 2.18 ***,when the number of silt layers increased from single to triple,there was an increase of about 880%in N_(cyc,L).The micro-characterization analysis of the soil specimens indicated silty materials transported in upper sections of the specimen due to the dissipated pore *** main parameters,including thickness(t),location(z),cyclic stress ratio(CSR),number of silt layers(n)and modified relative density(D_(r,m)),performed significantly in governing the lique-faction *** this,a multilinear regression model is developed based on critical parameters for prediction of N_(cyc,L).Furthermore,the developed constitutive model has been validated using the data from the present study and earlier findings.

Electric vehicles(EVs)are one of the more emerging and significant areas,representing the future of ***,the increased demand for EVs brings greater attention toward the development of the charging ***,this paper addresses the multifunctional charging system integrated with the grid,EV battery and household *** presents an improved idea about the charging system with grid connection and its connection to the varying local nonlinear *** consists of a voltage source converter(VSC)tied to the grid and bidirectional converter,which charges/discharges the battery and also regulates the constant voltage across the DC bus,where all the vehicles are connected for *** also shows the operations of charging/discharging the battery of EVs and the voltage and current profile across the battery as per the state of charge(SOC)***,the sparse constrained proportionate normalized least mean fourth(SCP-NLMF)based method is used to control the charging system by estimating the active component of load *** derived mean square error(MSE)of load current is improved due to low convergence rates in later *** adaptation process becomes more accurate by mitigating the MSE error of load current to converge faster and the dynamic response is further *** simulated and tested results validate the accuracy and efficacy of the SCPNLMF technique and charging system.

Band head spin assignment of superdeformed bands in Hg isotopes through power index formula

The power index formula has been used to obtain the band head spin(I0) of all the superdeformed(SD) bands in Hg isotopes. A least squares fitting approach is used. The root mean square deviations between the determined and the observed transition energies are calculated by extracting the model parameters using the power index formula. Whenever definite spins are available, the determined and the observed transition energies are in accordance with each other. The computed values of dynamic moment of inertia J~((2)) obtained by using the power index formula and its deviation with the rotational frequency is also studied. Excellent agreement is shown between the calculated and the experimental results for J~((2)) versus the rotational frequency. Hence, the power index formula works very well for all the SD bands in Hg isotopes expect for195Hg(2, 3, 4).

Parallel Fuzzy P+Fuzzy I+Fuzzy D Controller:Design and Performance Evaluation

In this paper, a parallel fuzzy proportional plus fuzzy integral plus fuzzy derivative （FP＋FI＋FD） controller is proposed. It is derived from the conventional parallel proportional-integral-derivative （PID） controller. It preserves the linear structure of a conventional parallel PID controller, with analytical formulas. The final shape of the controller is a discrete-time fuzzy version of a conventional parallel PID controller. Computer simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the FP＋FI＋FD controller for setpoint tracking and load-disturbance rejection for some complex processes, such as first- and second-order processes with delay, inverse response process with and without delay and higher order processes. Also, the performance of the proposed fuzzy controller is evaluated experimentally on highly nonlinear liquid-flow process with a hysteresis characteristic due to a pneumatic control valve. The simulation and real time control is done using National InstrumentTM hardware and software （LabVIEWTM）. The response of the FP＋FI＋FD controller is compared with the conventional parallel PID controller, tuned with the Ziegler-Nichols （Z-H） and /~strSm- H^gglund （A-H） tuning technique. It is observed that the FP＋FI＋FD controller performed much better than the conventional PI/PID controller. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed parallel FP＋FI＋FD controller.

CognitiveRadio(CR)has been developed as an enabling technology that allows the unused or underused spectrum to be used dynamically to increase spectral *** improve the overall performance of the CR systemit is extremely important to adapt or reconfigure the *** Decision Engine is a major module in the CR-based system that not only includes radio monitoring and cognition functions but also responsible for parameter *** meta-heuristic algorithms offer numerous advantages compared to traditional mathematical approaches,the performance of these algorithms is investigated in order to design an efficient CR system that is able to adapt the transmitting parameters to effectively reduce power consumption,bit error rate and adjacent interference of the channel,while maximized secondary user ***-Learning Salp Swarm Algorithm(SLSSA)is a recent meta-heuristic algorithm that is the enhanced version of SSA inspired by the swarming behavior of *** this work,the parametric adaption of CR system is performed by SLSSA and the simulation results show that SLSSA has high accuracy,stability and outperforms other competitive algorithms formaximizing the throughput of secondary *** results obtained with SLSSA are also shown to be extremely satisfactory and need fewer iterations to converge compared to the competitive methods.

New shape descriptor in the context of edge continuity

The object contour is a significant cue for identifying and categorising objects. The current work is motivated by indicative researches that attribute object contours to edge information. The spatial continuity exhibited by the edge pixels belonging to the object contour make these different from the noisy edge pixels belonging to the background clutter. In this study, the authors seek to quantify the object contour from a relative count of the adjacent edge pixels that are oriented in the four possible directions, and measure using exponential functions the continuity of each edge over the next adjacent pixel in that direction. The resulting computationally simple, low-dimensional feature set, called as ‘edge continuity features’, can successfully distinguish between object contours and at the same time discriminate intra-class contour variations, as proved by the high accuracies of object recognition achieved on a challenging subset of the Caltech-256 dataset. Grey-to-RGB template matching with City-block distance is implemented that makes the object recognition pipeline independent of the actual colour of the object, but at the same time incorporates colour edge information for discrimination. Comparison with the state-of-the-art validates the efficiency of the proposed approach.

Systematic study of kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia of superdeformed bands with NpNn scheme

The systematics of kinematic moment of inertia J and dynamic moment of inertia J of superdeformed（SD） bands in A -130, 150, 190 mass regions have been studied. We have obtained the values of J^（1） and J^（2）for all the SD bands observed in the A-130, 150, 190 mass regions by using the experimental intraband E2 transition energies. The result of this work includes the variation of J with the product of valence proton and neutron numbers（NpNn）. The phenomenon of band mixing has been observed in the A -130, 150 mass regions and band crossing has been observed in the A-190 mass region. The systematics also includes the variation of J with the product of valence proton and neutron numbers（NpNn）. Evidence of staggering behaviour has been observed in all three A-130, 150 and 190 mass regions. We present for the first time the variation of J^（1）and J^（2）of SD bands in the A-130, 150, 190 mass regions with NpNn.

Solar insolation driven periodicities in southwest monsoon and its impact on NE Arabian Sea paleoceanography

In the northeastern(NE) Arabian Sea,the fluctuation in terrestrial and freshwater runoff directly depends on southwest monsoon(SWM) precipitation as well as the meltwater flux provided by Indus ***,analysis of multi-proxy spectral signatures was carried out to trace the high-resolution SWM periodicities and their influence on the productivity,regional sea level fluctuations and depositional processes in the NE Arabian *** time series data of stable isotopes of oxygen(δ^18 O(***)).carbon(δ^13 C(***) and δ^13 C(org)) and nitrogen(δ^15 N).Total Organic Carbon(TOC),planktic-benthic foraminiferal ratio(P/B ratio) and>63 μm coarse fraction(CF) were used from two coastal sedimentary cores located offshore Saurashtra,NE Arabian Sea(Core SK-240/485 having 88 m water depth;Core GC/SK-240/496 having 174 m water depth).The REDFIT based spectral analysis recorded significant periodicities(>90% significance) in δ^18 0 time series centered at^1609,~667,~525,~296,~290 and^256 ***,the significant periodicities recorded in carbon isotopes time series(δ^13 C(***) and δ^13 C(org))centered at^681,~512,~471,~452,~438,~360,~292,~275,~269,~245 and^209 *** significant periodicities in TOC include^471 and-322 years whereas δ^15 N time series recorded significant periodicity centered at-360 *** significant periodicities in P/B ratio time series centered at^512,~388,~304,~250,~235,~217,~152,~139 and^135 years while CF recorded^268,~216,~209,~198,~188,~173 and^140 years significant *** observed periodicities in the multi-proxy record consist of similar cycles(within the radiocarbon dating error) which also natch with previously reported solar insolation influenced SWM and other global and regional ***,the stationarity of the data has been verified using wavelet analysis and shows similar periodicities as observed in REDFIT ***,the depositional behaviour was studied using correlation analysis of the common

Systematic study of rotational energy formulae for superdeformed bands in La and Ce isotopes

The experimental rotational spectra of superdeformed（SD） bands of 130La, 131Ce（1,2）, 132Ce（1,2,3） and133 Ce（1,2,3） in the A～130 mass region are systematically analyzed with the four parameter formula, power index formula, nuclear softness formula, and VMI model. It is observed that out of all the formulae, the four parameter formula suits best for the study of the 130La, 131Ce（1,2）, 132Ce（2,3） and 133Ce（1,2,3） SD bands. The four parameter formula works efficiently in determining the band head spin of the 130La, 131Ce（1,2） 132Ce（2,3） and 133Ce（1,2,3） SD bands. Good agreement is seen between the calculated and observed transition energies whenever the accurate spin is assigned. In 132Ce（1）, the power index formula is found to work better than the other three formulae. The dynamic moment of inertia is also calculated for all the formulae and its variation with the rotational frequency is investigated.

Cell-based models are a promising tool in deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of neurological disorders as well as aiding in the discovery and development of future drug *** greatest challenge is creating cell-based models that encapsulate the vast phenotypic presentations as well as the underlying genotypic etiology of these *** this article,we discuss the recent advancements in cell-based models for understanding the pathophysiology of neurological *** reviewed studies discussing the progression of cell-based models to the advancement of three-dimensional models and organoids that provide a more accurate model of the pathophysiology of neurological disorders in *** better we understand how to create more precise models of the neurological system,the sooner we will be able to create patient-specific models and large libraries of these neurological *** three-dimensional models can be used to discover the linking factors to connect the varying phenotypes,such models will also help to understand the early pathophysiology of these neurological disorders and how they are affected by their *** three-dimensional cell models will allow us to create more specific treatments and uncover potentially preventative measures in neurological disorders such as autism spectrum disorder,Parkinson’s disease,Alzheimer’s disease,and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
