The strong societal demand to reduce pesticide use and adaptation to climate change challenges the capacities of phenotyping new varieties in the ***-throughput phenotyping is a way to obtain meaningful and reliable information on hundreds of genotypes in a limited *** evaluated traits related to growth in 209 genotypes from an interspecific grapevine biparental cross,between IJ119,a local genitor,and Divona,both in summer and in winter,using several methods:fresh pruning wood weight,exposed leaf area calculated from digital images,leaf chlorophyll concentration,and LiDAR-derived apparent *** high-density genetic information obtained by the genotyping by sequencing technology(GBS),we detected 6 regions of the grapevine genome[quantitative trait loci(QTL)]associated with the variations of the traits in the *** detection of statistically significant QTLs,as well as correlations(R^(2))with traditional methods above 0.46,shows that LiDAR technology is effective in characterizing the growth features of the *** calculated with LiDAR-derived total canopy and pruning wood volumes were high,above 0.66,and stable between growing *** variables provided genetic models explaining up to 47%of the phenotypic variance,which were better than models obtained with the exposed leaf area estimated from images and the destructive pruning weight *** results highlight the relevance of LiDAR-derived traits for characterizing genetically induced differences in grapevine growth and open new perspectives for high-throughput phenotyping of grapevines in the vineyard.

Understanding the processes involved in how and why animals communicate has long been fascinating to scientists (Darwin 1871). This endeavor plays a key role in the pursuit of reaching a better comprehension both of the rules involved in organizing the animal societies around us (Freeberg et al. 2012) and of the evolutionary bases underlying our own vocal communication system: human language (Fitch 2010). Moreover, in recent years, the type and function of information conveyed by animal vocalizations have also attracted research interest in the field of ecology (see Sueur and Farina 2015). While these fields certainly still have room for developing new concepts and methods in order to improve our appreciation of animal vocal communication, to date, 3 main approaches have been applied which have greatly contributed to advance our knowledge on the question.

In this research, we study the cognitive workload of aircraft pilots during a simulated takeoff procedure. We propose a proof-of-concept setup environment to gather heart rate, pupil dilation, and brain cognitive workload data during an A320 takeoff within a simulator. Experiments were performed during which we collected 136 takeoffs across 13 pilots for more than 9 hours of time-series data. Moreover, this paper investigates the correlations between heart rate, pupil dilation, and cognitive workload during such exercise and found that a spike in cognitive load during a critical moment, such as an engine failure, augments a pilot’s heart rate and pupil dilation. Results show that a critical moment within a takeoff procedure increases a pilot’s cognitive load. Next, we used a stacked-LSTM model to predict cognitive workload 5 seconds into the future. The model was able to produce accurate predictions.

Medical diagnosis software and computer-assisted surgical systems often use segmented image data to help clinicians make decisions. The segmentation extracts the region of interest from the background, which makes the visualization clearer. However, no segmentation method can guarantee accurate results under all circumstances. As a result, the clinicians need a solution that enables them to check and validate the segmentation accuracy as well as displaying the segmented area without ambiguities. With the method presented in this paper, the real CT or MR image is displayed within the segmented region and the segmented boundaries can be expanded or contracted interactively. By this way, the clinicians are able to check and validate the segmentation visually and make more reliable decisions. After experiments with real data from a hospital, the presented method is proved to be suitable for efficiently detecting segmentation errors. The new algorithm uses new graphic processing uint （GPU） shading functions recently introduced in graphic cards and is fast enough to interact oil the segmented area, which was not possible with previous methods.

We investigate the validity of stationary simulations for semiconductor quantum charge transport in a one-dimensional resonant tunneling diode via fluid type *** numerical investigations to a quantum hydrodynamic model reveal that the transient simulations do not always converge to the steady *** particular,growing oscillations are observed at relatively large applied voltage.A dynamical bifurcation is responsible for the stability interchange of the steady *** and stationary computations are also performed for a unipolar quantum drift-diffusion model.

Energy geostructures(EGs)employ heat exchangers embedded in concrete geostructures,such as piles,walls,tunnels,and *** this study,energy walls(EWs)are studied with an emphasis on the following objectives:(1)to understand the fundamentals of hydrothermal interactions acting in the vicinity of EWs caused by groundwater seepage in saturated soil;(2)to highlight hydraulically induced thermal effects and their consequences on the thermal performance of *** three-dimensional hydrothermal finite element analyses are performed considering two groundwater flow conditions:perpendicular and parallel to the *** thermal activation of the geostructure locally modifies the flownet with respect to the non-isothermal case because of the temperature dependency of the water *** interactions between seepage directions and thermal activation are *** thermal interactions are detected within the heat *** thermal behavior of EGs is highly affected by an incorrect evaluation of the hydraulically induced thermal effects,which may result in an overestimation of the thermal ***,an efficient thermal design,which considers such interactions,may increase the thermal potential of EGs.
