Mapping wetlands in Indonesia using Landsat and PALSAR data-sets and derived topographical indices

Wetlands play an important role in the provision of ecosystem services,ranging from the regulation of hydrological systems to carbon sequestration and biodiversity *** paper reports the mapping of Indonesia’s wetland cover as a single thematic class,including peatlands,freshwater wetlands,and ***-interpreted training data were used to identify wetland formations including areas of likely past wetland extent that have been converted to other land *** indices(Shuttle Radar Topography Mission-derived)and optical(Landsat)and radar(PALSAR)image inputs were used to build a bagged classification tree model based on training data in order to generate a national-scale map of wetland extent at a 60 m spatial *** resulting wetland map covers 21.0%(39.6 Mha)of Indonesia’s land,including 25.2% of Sumatra(11.9 Mha),22.9% of Kalimantan(12.2 Mha),and 28.9% of Papua(11.8 Mha).Results agree with existing image-interpreted products from Indonesia’s Ministries of Forestry and Agriculture and Wetlands International(89% overall agreement),and with the Ministry of Forestry forest inventory data for Sumatra and Kalimantan(91% overall agreement).An internally consistent algorithm-derived national wetland extent map can be used to quantify changing rates of land conversion inside and outside of ***,wetlands extent can be used to efficiently allocate field resources in national assessments of wetland sub-types such as peatlands,which are a current focus of policies aiming to reduce carbon emissions from land use change.

The compilation of global Landsat data-sets and the ever-lowering costs of computing now make it feasible to monitor the Earth’s land cover at Landsat resolutions of 30 *** this article,we describe the methods to create global products of forest cover and cover change at Landsat ***,there are many challenges in ensuring the creation of high-quality *** we propose various ways in which the challenges can be *** the challenges are the need for atmospheric correction,incorrect calibration coefficients in some of the data-sets,the different phenologies between compila-tions,the need for terrain correction,the lack of consistent reference data for training and accuracy assessment,and the need for highly automated character-ization and change *** propose and evaluate the creation and use of surface reflectance products,improved selection of scenes to reduce phenological differences,terrain illumination correction,automated training selection,and the use of information extraction procedures robust to errors in training data along with several other *** several stages we use Moderate Resolution Spectro-radiometer data and products to assist our analysis.A global working prototype product of forest cover and forest cover change is included.

Rodents,including common voles(Microtus arvalis)and house mice(Mus musculus)cause immense pre-harvest and post-harvest ***,developing methods that mitigate these losses while maintaining their role in ecosystems is a *** plant secondary metabolites(PSM)which significantly reduce food intake of both species under laboratory conditions have been ***,before these can be used in rodent pest management,they must be tested under more natural conditions where other food sources are *** this study,the odors of 4 PSMs were evaluated for their repellent effects in experiments conducted in semi-natural *** treated with PSMs or untreated soil(experimental control)was placed in an underground box containing food(rolled oats).We quantified the number of visits to each box and could demonstrate that all 4 PSMs reduced the number of visits to treatment boxes in both rodent *** common voles the combination of methyl nonyl ketone+black pepper oil was the most repellent *** mice made fewer visits to all PSM boxes;boxes with the anthraquinone were visited ***,house mice consumed less food from boxes containing soil treated with all 4 *** results suggest that PSMs are repellent in murid and microtine rodents under semi-field *** addition,the future use of PSM odors for repelling both pest species,especially house mice,seems *** investigations with other PSMs,different concentrations as well as alternative application methods are needed to repel common voles from attractive crops.

Electrochemical glycerol oxidation(EGO)emerges as a promising route to valorize glycerol,an underutilized byproduct from biodiesel production,into value-added *** study employed three types of gold(Au)nanocrystals with controlled shapes to elucidate the facet-dependent electrocatalytic behavior in ***,rhombic dodecahedral,and cubic Au nanocrystals with{111},{110},and{100}facets,respectively,were precisely synthesized with uniform size and *** dodecahedra exhibited the lowest onset potential for EGO due to facile AuOH formation,while octahedra showed enhanced electrochemical activity for glycerol oxidation and resistance to ***-situ FTIR analysis revealed that Au{111}surfaces selectively favored c_(2) products,whereas Au{100}surfaces promoted c_(3) product formation,highlighting the significant effect of facet orientation on EGO performance and informing catalyst design.

Articular cartilage has a limited capacity to self-heal once ***-specific stem cells are a solution for cartilage regeneration;however,ex vivo expansion resulting in cell senescence remains a challenge as a large quantity of high-quality tissue-specific stem cells are needed for cartilage *** previous report demonstrated that decellularized extracellular matrix(dEcM)deposited by human synovium-derived stem cells(SDScs),adipose-derived stem cells(ADScs),urine-derived stem cells(UDScs),or dermal fibroblasts(DFs)provided an ex vivo solution to rejuvenate human SDScs in proliferation and chondrogenic potential,particularly for dEcM deposited by *** make the cell-derived dEcM(c-dEcM)approach applicable clinically,in this study,we evaluated ex vivo rejuvenation of rabbit infrapatellar fat pad-derived stem cells(IPFScs),an easily accessible alternative for SDScs,by the abovementioned c-dEcMs,in vivo application for functional cartilage repair in a rabbit osteochondral defect model,and potential cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this *** found that c-dEcM rejuvenation promoted rabbit IPFScs’cartilage engineering and functional regeneration in both ex vivo and in vivo models,particularly for the dEcM deposited by UDScs,which was further confirmed by proteomics ***-Seq analysis indicated that both mesenchymal-epithelial transition(MET)and inflammation-mediated macrophage activation and polarization are potentially involved in the c-dEcM-mediated promotion of IPFScs’chondrogenic capacity,which needs further investigation.

为评估竞争压力下气候对栓皮栎(Quercus variabilis Bl.)径向生长的影响及树木对干旱的适应性,以太行山南麓地区混交林中的栓皮栎为研究对象,考虑不同竞争强度与竞争主要来源,结合月气象因子及干旱稳定性指标,分析竞争对栓皮栎径向生长的作用特征。结果表明:研究区栓皮栎径向生长主要受当年6-8月份的气候因子影响。竞争强度分组分析后发现,竞争强度的加剧削弱了栓皮栎径向生长对上一年温度的滞后响应,同时增加了对夏季相对湿度的敏感性。竞争显著提高以种间竞争为主的栓皮栎的干旱抵抗力(R_(t));相反,竞争压力对以种内竞争为主的栓皮栎的干旱恢复力(R_(c))、弹性力(R_(s))造成了负面影响。当竞争主要来自种间时,栓皮栎径向生长表现出更高的气候敏感性与干旱抵抗力。竞争调节了气候对栓皮栎生长的影响模式及干旱适应性程度,种间及种内的竞争调节作用是非等效的。

computational investigation of the effect of biodiesel fuel properties on diesel engine NOx emissions

A detailed numerical spray atomization,ignition,combustion and nitrogen oxides(NOx)formation model was developed for direct injection diesel engines by using KIVA3V *** modified or recalibrated sub-models including a Kelvin-Helmholtz Rayleigh-Taylor(KH-RT)spray breakup model,a Shell ignition model,a single-step kinetic combustion model and a Zel’dovich NOx formation model were incorporated into *** modified model was validated by experimental data obtained from a John Deere 4045T direct injection diesel engine that was fueled with a natural soybean methyl ester,a yellow grease methyl ester,a genetically modified soybean methyl ester and No.2 diesel *** between predictions of the brake-specific NOx and measured values were less than 1%at full *** biodiesel fuels,either the Zel’dovich mechanism overpredicted NOx emissions,the ratio of NO to NOx should be less than diesel fuel,or *** observed from the modeling results,the higher latent heat of vaporization and higher surface tension of biodiesel relative to diesel fuel did not result in increased NOx *** higher viscosity of biodiesel could be one of the reasons for increased NOx,but its effect was relatively small compared with the effect of decreased spray cone angle and advanced start of injection timing on *** spray cone angle and advanced start of injection were the main reasons for increased NOx emissions of biodiesel.
