The inter-line dynamic voltage restorer （IDVR） consists of several voltage source inverters connected to different independent distribution feeders with common dc bus. When one of the inverters compensates for voltage sag that appears in its feeder （voltage control mode）, the other inverters pump the required power into the dc bus （power control mode）. Each inverter will have both voltage and power controllers; only one controller is in use during the abnormal conditions according to its feeder state. The voltage controller uses one of the dynamic voltage restoration techniques. In this paper, the in-phase technique is applied and two types of loads are considered （constant impedance and three phase induction motor）. Since the voltage restoration process may need real power injection into the distribution system, the power controller injects this power via voltage injection. This voltage injection is simulated by voltage drop across series virtual impedance. A new scheme is proposed to select the impedance value. The impedance value is selected such that the power consumed by this impedance represents the required power to be transferred without perturbing the load voltage. The performance of this system is also studied during voltage swell. A scheme for operation of multi-feeder IDVR system is proposed in this paper. Simulation results substantiate the proposed concept.

AIM To study the relationship of jailed polymer jacketed guide wires(PGW) with procedural myocardial infarction(PMI) after bifurcation coronary *** Consecutive bifurcation interventions performed from January 2010 to October 2014 were included in the study. Chart review was performed to obtain demographic, clinical and procedural data. PMI was defined as Creatine Kinase MB > 3 × upper reference limit of normal. Multivariate logistic regression was used to ascertain relationship of PGW use with *** Two hundred and ninety-three patients(age 63.5 ± 12.3 years; 33.8% diabetic) were included in the study. Eighty point two percent(n = 235) were true bifurcation lesions use of PGW was associated with PMI on univariate analysis(OR = 4.1; P = 0.002). This association remained significant after adjusting for other possible risk factors(OR = 3.5; P = 0.02).CONCLUSION Our results suggest that PGW use for side branch protection may be associated with PMI. Randomized studies are needed to validate these findings.

Mechanical gearboxes are typically employed with doubly-fed induction generatur-based wind turbines. The main drawback of this solution is the gearbox＇s reliability and maintenance. Using magnetic gearbox in conjunction with the doubly-fed induction generator is an emerging alternative being promoted by the research community which maintains the reduced size doubly-fed machine and overcomes the mechanical gearbox problems reported by field experience. This paper proposes a novel magnetic gearbox configuration in which a conventional planetary magnetic gearbox is equipped with n-phase coils fitted around the ferromagnetic pole-pieces to extract output electrical power. The turbine mechanical power is thus divided into mechanical power to drive the electrical generator and extra electrical power that can be diverted into a storage system to perform the power leveling function. The proposed configuration can also be used to freely modify the power-speed characteristic as seen by the electrical generator, a highly needed feature for grid frequency support.

The link of hedgehog (Hh) signaling activation to human cancer and synthesis of a variety of Hh signaling inhibitors raise great expectation that inhibiting Hh signaling may be effective in human cancer treatment. Cyclopamine (Cyc), an alkaloid from the Veratrum plant, is a specific natural product inhibitor of the Hh pathway that acts by targeting smoothened (SMO) protein. However, its poor solubility, acid sensitivity, and weak potency relative to other Hh antagonists prevent the clinical development of Cyc as a therapeutic agent. Here, we report properties of cyclopamine tartrate salt (CycT) and its activities in Hh signaling-mediated cancer in vitro and in vivo. Unlike Cyc, CycT is water soluble (5-10 mg/mL). The median lethal dose (LD50) of CycT was 62.5 mg/kg body weight compared to 43.5 mg/kg for Cyc, and the plasma half-life (T1/2) of CycT was not significantly different from that of Cyc. We showed that CycT had a higher inhibitory activity for Hh signaling-dependent motor neuron differentiation than did Cyc (IC50 = 50 nmol/L for CycT vs. 300 nmol/L for Cyc). We also tested the antitumor effectiveness of these Hh inhibitors using two mouse models of basal cell carcinomas (K14cre:Ptch1neo/neo and K14cre:SmoM2YFP). After topical application of CycT or Cyc daily for 21 days, we found that all CycT-treated mice had tumor shrinkage and decreased expression of Hh target genes. Taken together, we found that CycT is an effective inhibitor of Hh signaling-mediated carcinogenesis.

From Hydration to Strength Properties of Fly Ash Based Mortar

Fly ash (FA) is important alternative or supplement to cement to reduce the environmental impact of concrete industry. However, early age strength development of FA is a concern due to the slower reaction rate of FA compared to cement. This paper examines the early age hydration properties of cement paste containing typical Australian FA and establishes correlations between the degree of hydration and the early-age strength development properties of mortar mixes. All mixes have the same mixture proportion of water to binder (w:b) ratio. FA sourced from different power plants are used for the tests. Cement replacement levels of 0%, 10%, 30% and 40% by mass are considered. The degree of hydration was established from the heat production of the mixes by using isothermal calorimetry. The hydration properties were characterized by hydration curve parameters obtained from curve fitting. The results show that both hydration rate and strength of the binder materials (FA and cement) were reduced with higher replacement levels of FA contributing to a reduced hydration rate at early ages. Linear relationship could be obtained between degree of hydration and strength at early ages for all the fly ash binders.

Coronary bifurcation lesions(CBL)are one of the most challenging lesions to treat in interventional *** imaging including intravascular ultrasound(IVUS)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)is paramount for the assessment of lesion characteristics and suboptimal stent results and to improve the outcome of percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).After upgrading the use of IVUS and OCT by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines,their use has ***,there has been significant improvement in image quality and the profile of system(ie,IVUS catheter size).The main indication for the use of IVUS includes:assessment of lesion characteristics,optimization of stent deployment,optimal stent expansion,exclusion of plaque burden>50%,and edge *** imaging plays a significant role in the assessment and treatment of left main(LM)coronary artery stenosis and *** particular,the use of intravascular imaging for alleviating mechanical issues during stenting and managing stent thrombosis has significantly ***,a compelling body of evidence has shown that the use of IVUS or OCT during PCI leads to optimal stenting results and mitigates the risk of adverse cardiac ***,to date,the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines have assigned a Class IIb recommendation for IVUS or OCT,while the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines upgraded it to the Class IIa *** review summarized the role of IVUS and OCT for the assessment of stenosis and stent optimization in patients with CBL and LM *** addition,we discuss new insights into the role of IVUS-and OCT-guided stenting in patients with CBL and LM stenosis provided by the ongoing randomized trials.
