BACKGROUND Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),particularly in the presence of liver fibrosis,increases the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality,but the nature of the cardio-hepatic interaction in the context type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is not fully *** To evaluate the changes in cardiac morphology and function in patients with T2DM and MASLD-associated liver *** T2DM patients with MASLD underwent a medical evaluation that included an assessment of lifestyle,anthropometric measurements,vital signs,an extensive laboratory panel,and a standard *** fibrosis was evaluated using two scores[Fibrosis-4(FIB4)and Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease-Fibrosis Score(NFS)],and subjects were classified as having advanced fibrosis,no fibrosis,or an indeterminate *** correlations between structural and functional cardiac parameters and markers of liver fibrosis were evaluated through bivariate and multiple regression *** significance was set at P<*** Data from 267 T2DM-MASLD subjects with complete assessment was *** with scores indicating advanced fibrosis exhibited higher interventricular septum and left ventricular(LV)posterior wall thickness,atrial diameters,LV end-systolic volume,LV mass index(LVMi),and epicardial adipose tissue thickness(EATT).Their mean ejection fraction(EF)was significantly lower(49.19%±5.62%vs 50.87%±5.14%vs 52.00%±3.25%;P=0.003),and a smaller proportion had an EF≥50%(49.40%vs 68.90%vs 84.21%;P=0.0017).Their total and mid LV wall motion score indexes were higher(P<0.05).Additionally,they had markers of diastolic dysfunction,with a higher E/e’ratio[9.64±4.10 vs 8.44(2.43-26.33)vs 7.35±2.62;P=0.026],and over 70%had lateral e’values<10 cm/second,though without significant differences between *** multiple regression analyses,FIB4 correlated with left atrium diameter(LAD;β=0.044;P<0.05),and NFS with both LAD(β=0.039;P<0.05)and right

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Schiff Base for Enhanced Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Photo-Response Mechanism

The efficient photo-response mechanism is one of the key factors in the commercialization of dye-sensitized solar cells in a bid to satisfy renewable energy demands. Progress in green technology has put solar energy on the front burner as a provider of clean and affordable energy for a sustainable society. We report the synthesis of a novel Schiff base with optical transparency in the visible and near IR region of the solar spectrum that can find application in the DSSCs photo-response mechanism. The synthesized crystal exhibited features that could handle some of the shortcomings of dye-sensitized solar cells which include wide band solar spectrum absorption and capability for swift charge transfer within the photoelectrodes. The synthesized Schiff base was characterized using x-ray diffractometer, UV/Visible spectrometer, Frontier transmission infrared spectrometer and conductometer. XRD data revealed the grown crystal to have an average crystallite size of 2.08 nm with average microstrain value of about 269.43. The FT-IR recorded transmission wave ѵ (CO) at 1207.7 cm−1 while dominant wave occurred at ѵ1654.9 and ѵ1592.3 cm−1 relating to ѵ (CN) stretching and ѵ (NH) bending respectively were observed. The IR spectrum revealed the bonding species and a probable molecular structure of 2,6-bis(benzyloxy)pyridine. The UV/Visible spectra convoluted to maximum peak within the near IR region suggesting that 2,6-bis(benzyloxy)pyridine can absorb both the visible and near IR region while its electrical conductivity was determined to be 4.58 µS/cm. The obtained result of the present study revealed promising characteristics of a photosensitizer that can find application in the photo-response mechanism of DSSCs.

In a local context, sustainable development entails utilizing the current resources—material and immaterial, measurable and immeasurable, popular and unpopular—of the community in a manner that avoids overexploitation and ensures intergenerational equity. This approach prioritizes the safety and health of local citizens, placing communal productivity above corporate profitability. This research aims to assess air quality surrounding 28 chemical industry sites in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to understand the environmental and health impacts of industrial pollutants, with a focus on environmental justice. Air quality pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and SO2, were monitored for 75 days during the Summer, using the BreezoMeter app. Python, Mapize, and QGIS software technologies were utilized for data analysis and visualization. Findings indicate a reduction in NO2 and CO levels, compared to existing literature. However, the persistent challenge of particulate matter suggests areas for further environmental management efforts. Additionally, the research suggests a significant disparity in air pollution exposure, probably affecting marginalized communities. Although the nature of the study might not fully capture annual pollution trends, the findings highlight the urgent need for the chemical industry to adopt efficient production methods and for policymakers to enhance air quality standards and enforcement, particularly in pollution-sensitive areas. The disproportionate impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities calls for a more inclusive approach to environmental justice, ensuring equitable distribution of clean air benefits and community involvement in pollution management decisions.

Liver cancer is the sixth most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide,with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)comprising most *** hepatitis B and C viral infections,heavy alcohol use,and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)-associated advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis,several other risk factors for HCC have been identified(*** age,obesity,insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes).These might in fact partially explain the occurrence of HCC in non-cirrhotic patients without viral *** surveillance through effective screening programs is still an unmet need for many nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)patients,and identification of pre-cirrhotic individuals who progress to HCC represents a substantial challenge in clinical practice at the *** with NASHcirrhosis should undergo systematic HCC surveillance,while this might be considered in patients with advanced fibrosis based on individual risk *** this context,interventions that potentially prevent NAFLD/NASH-associated HCC are *** paper provided an overview of evidence related to lifestyle changes(*** loss,physical exercise,adherence to healthy dietary patterns,intake of certain dietary components,etc.)and pharmacological interventions that might play a protective role by targeting the underlying causative factors and pathogenetic ***,well-designed prospective studies specifically dedicated to NAFLD/NASH patients are still needed to clarify the relationship with HCC risk.

This paper investigates the combined effect of radial magnetic field and viscous dissipation on entropy generation in horizontal co-axial cylinders of generalized Couette *** analytical solutions for velocity and temperature profiles are obtained and utilized to compute the entropy generation,Bejan number as well as the average entropy generation *** effect of relevant parameters on temperature field,velocity field,entropy generation,average entropy and Bejan number are portrayed graphically and *** isoflux heating near the inner surface of the fixed outer cylinder with higher dominance in the case of isoflux *** reverse is seen on the moving inner cylinder.

Natural convection flow in a vertical annulus with time-periodic thermal boundary conditions

This paper presents an analytical solution for natural convection flow in a vertical annulus due to time-periodic heating of annulus ***-form expressions for velocity,temperature,skin-friction,mass flow rate and rate of heat transfer which is expressed as Nusselt number are obtained by solving the present mathematical model after separating into steady component and periodic *** effects of pertinent parameters such as Strouhal number(St),Prandtl number(Pr)and radius ratio(λ)are shown with the aid of contour and line *** indicate that the role of Strouhal number and Prandtl number is to decrease fluid velocity,temperature and ***,increase in Strouhal number increases the temperature phase-lag.

Photochemical behavior of benzo[a]pyrene on soil surfaces under UV light irradiation

The rates of photodegradation and photocatalysis of benzo [a]pyrene （BaP） on soil surfaces under UV light have been studied. Different parameters such as temperature, soil particle sizes, and soil depth responsible for photodegradation, catalyst loads and wavelength of UV irradiation blamed for photocatalysis have been monitored. The results obtained indicated that BaP photodegradation follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. BaP photodegradation was the fastest at 30℃ . The rates of BaP photodegradation at different soil particle size followed the order： less than 1 mm〉less than 0.45 mm〉less than 0.25 mm. When the soil depth increased from 1 mm to 4 ram, the half-life increased from 13.23 d to 17.73 d. The additions of TiO2 or Fe2O3 accelerated the photodegradation of BaP, and the photocatalysis of BaP follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. Changes in catalyst loads of TiO2 （0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 3% （wt）） or Fe203 （2%, 5%, 7%, and 10% （wt）） did not significantly affect the degradation rates. Both BaP photocatalysis in the presence of TiO2 and Fe2O3 were the fastest at 254 nm UV irradiation.

The impact of Joule heating due to electric double layer(EDL)and viscous dissipation on electroosmotic mixed convection flow in a vertical microchannel with asymmetric heat fluxes is established in this *** Poisson-Boltzmann,momentum and energy equations representing the electric potential,velocity profile and temperature distribution in the microchannel are obtained in dimensionless *** the Debye-Hückel linearization,exact solutions are obtained for electric potential,velocity profile and temperature distributions by method of undetermined coefficients in the absence of viscous dissipation and Joule heating while an inbuilt Matlab function called pdepe is employed to solve the coupled nonlinear momentum and energy equations in the presence of Joule heating and viscous *** show that the presence of Joule heating and viscous dissipation lead to decrease in velocity profile and temperature distributions throughout the microchannel.

Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analyses for Modeling Long-Term Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics of Paddy Soils Under Different Climate-Soil-Management Combinations

Reporting modeling results with uncertainty information can benefit decision making by decreasing the extent that variability exerts a disproportionate influence on the options selected. For making decisions with more confidence, the uncertainty interval should be as narrow as possible. Here, the soil organic carbon （SOC） dynamics of the major paddy soil subgroup from 4 different paddy field regions of China （located in 4 counties under different climate-soil-management combinations） were modeled using the DeNitrification- DeComposition （DNDC） model for the period from 1980 to 2008. Uncertainty intervals associated with the SOC dynamics for these 4 subgroups were estimated by a long-term global sensitivity and uncertainty analysis （i. e., the Sobolt method）, and their sensitivities to 7 influential factors were quantified using the total effect sensitivity index. The results, modeled with high confidence, indicated that in the past 29 years, the studied paddy soils in Xinxing, Yixing, and Zhongjiang counties were carbon （C） sinks, while the paddy soil in Helong County was a C source. The 3 C sinks sequestered 12.2 （5.4, 19.6）, 17.1 （8.9, 25.0）, and 16.9 （-1.2, 33.6） t C ha-1 （values in the parentheses are the 5th and 95th percentiles, respectively）. Conversely, the C source had a loss of -5.4 （-14.2, 0.06） t C ha-1 in the past 29 years. The 7 factors, which changed with the climate-soil-management context, exhibited variable influences on modeled SOC. Measures with potential to conserve or sequestrate more C into paddy soils, such as incorporating more crop residues into soils and reducing chemical fertilizer application rates, were recommended for specific soils based on the sensitivity analysis results.
