Hexagonal Nano-Crystalline BCN Films Grown on Si (100) Substrate Studied by X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy

Hexagonal nano-crystalline boron carbonitride (h-BCN) films grown on Si (100) substrate have been precisely investigated. The films were synthesized by radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition using tris-dimethylamino borane as a single-source molecular precursor. The deposition was performed by setting RF power at 400 - 800 W. The reaction pressure was at 2.6 Pa and the substrate temperature was recorded at 700°C - 800°C. Formation of the nano-crystalline h-BCN compound has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The diffraction peaks at 26.3° together with a small unknown peak at 29.2° were elucidated due to the formation of an h-BCN structure. The films composed of B, C, and N atoms with different B-N, B-C, C-N chemical bonds in forming the sp2-BCN atomic configuration studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Orientation and local structures of the h-BCN hybrid were studied by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements. The dominant presence of p* and s* resonance peaks of the sp2-hybrid orbitals in the B K-edge NEXAFS spectra revealed the formation of the sp2-BCN configuration around B atoms like-BN3 in h-BN. The orientation was suggested on the basis of the polarization dependence of B K-edge and N K-edge of the NEXAFS spectra.

BACKGROUND Postoperative aortobronchial fistula(ABF)is a rare complication that can occur in 0.3%-5.0%of patients over an extended period of time after thoracic aortic *** visualization of the fistula via imaging is *** To investigate the relationship between computed tomography(CT)findings and the clinical signs/symptoms of ABF after thoracic aortic *** Six patients(mean age 71 years,including 4 men and 2 women)with suspected ABF on CT(air around the graft)at our hospital were included in this retrospective study between January 2004 and September *** CT findings included direct confirmation of ABF,peri-graft fluid,ring enhancement,dirty fat sign,atelectasis,pulmonary hemorrhage,and bronchodilation,and the clinical course were retrospectively *** proportion of each type of CT finding was *** ABF detection after surgery was found to have a mean and median of 14 and 13 years,*** signs and symptoms were asymptomatic in 4 patients,bloody sputum was found in 1 patient,and fever was present in 1 *** complications of ABF included graft infection in 2 patients and graft infection with hemoptysis in 2 *** the 6 patients,3 survived,2 died,and 1 was lost to *** locations of the ABFs were as follows:1 in the ascending aorta;1 in the aortic arch;2 in the aortic arch leading to the descending aorta;and 2 in the descending *** were directly confirmed by CT in 4/6(67%)***-graft dirty fat(4/6,67%)and peri-graft ring enhancement(3/6,50%)were associated with graft infection,endoleaks and pseudoaneurysms were associated with hemoptysis(2/6,33%).CONCLUSION Asymptomatic ABF after thoracic aortic surgery can be confirmed on chest *** is useful for the diagnosis of ABF and its complications.

X-ray structures of transfer RNAs (tRNAs) bound to the whole ribosome do not fully explain the mechanism of translation. The cause of the failure seems to come mainly from a high Mg2+ ion concentration compared to that in the living cells. There exists a wide range of nucleotide sequence conservation in tRNA and ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) of small and large subunits as well as sequence complementarities, that seems to explain how high accuracy in translation can be achieved at the decoding site. Conformational transition between U33-folded and U33-extended forms of anticodon loops of tRNAs and G-C pair formation and disruption between C1399 and G1504 of 16S rRNA, etc. play the central role in explaining why E-site tRNA can automatically be expelled when an aminoacyl-tRNA at the A site turns out to be cognate.

This research was aimed at isolating and identifying the predominant lactic acid bacteria(LAB) in the traditional Chinese salt-fermented soybean food,douchi,from Yunnan,*** predominant LAB present were isolated and identified by conventional culture-dependent methods combined with molecular biological *** hundred and sixty isolates were obtained from thirty kinds of traditional fermented douchi from six cities and counties in Yunnan,and those strains were divided into twelve groups by their morphological and biochemical *** on 16S ribosomal DNA(rDNA) sequencing and analysis,56 representative strains were identified as belonging to 6 genera and 14 species:Lactobacillus(4 spp.),Weissella(3 spp.),Pediococcus(2 spp.),Staphylococcus(2 spp.),Enterococcus(1 sp.),and Bacillus(2 spp.).The results show that douchi contains a large natural population of LAB of diverse composition from which some strains could be selected as starters for functional fermented *** is the first study on the original douchi from Yunnan,and the results suggest that it may be a useful source for the isolation of *** study has also laid a foundation for further research on developing functional douchi products.

Bile duct hamartomas(von Mayenburg complexes) mimicking liver metastases from bile duct cancer:MRC findings

We present a case of a 72-year-old man with a common bile duct cancer, who was initially believed to have multiple liver metastases based on computed tomography findings, and in whom magnetic resonance cholangiography （MRC） revealed a diagnosis of bile duct hamartomas. At exploration for pancreaticoduodenectomy, liver palpation revealed disseminated nodules at the surface of the liver. These nodules showed gray-white nodular lesions of about 0.5 cm in diameter scattered on the surface of both liver lobes, which were looked like multiple liver metastases from bile duct cancer. Frozen section of the liver biopsy disclosed multiple bile ducts with slightly dilated lumens embedded in the collagenous stroma characteristics of multiple bile duct hamartomas （BDHs）. Only two reports have described the MRC features of bile duct hamartomas. Of all imaging procedures, MRC provides the most relevant features for the imaging diagnosis of bile duct hamartomas.

It has also become possible for people to easily acquire tourism information that matches their own particular tastes using the internet, so tourism has taken a more diverse range of forms. One of these is “content tourism” that became popular in recent Japan. Sgains such a backdrop, the present study aimed to design, develop, operate and evaluate a system that integrated three subsidiary systems including Web-geographic information systems (GIS), a tourism information system and social networking service (SNS) in order to support walking-based content tourism. This made it possible to create sightseeing routes and to submit, store, and view tourist attraction information. Additionally, the system was operated for one month in Chofu City, Tokyo Metropolis, and the total number of users was 42. During the operation period, 12 new sightseeing routes were created and 30 new tourist attractions were submitted. Based on the results of the web questionnaire survey, users highly evaluated the key functions of the system and the overall system. However, of those key functions, evaluations were somewhat low for the ease of operation of the creation function of sightseeing route, so the improvements must be made. From the results of the access log analysis of users’ log data, the total number of sessions in this system was 134, 64% used PCs, 36% used mobile devices, Therefore, the approach of designing the system such that the same functions could be used regardless of the type of device one is using was an effective design approach.

Experimental Investigation of Loop Heat Pipe with Two Evaporators/Two Condensers under Thermal Vacuum Condition

Multiple loop heat pipe is a high-functional thermal transport device. This work was conducted to confirm the working performance of Multiple loop heat pipe under thermal vacuum ambience with the working fluid ammonia. Asmall multiple loop heat pipe with two evaporators and two ra- diators was designed and fabricated. Then thermal vacuum test was conducted. The heaters were fasten on both evaporators, both radiators, both compensation chambers. In the case that both evaporators were heated, the multiple loop heat pipe can transport 120/120 W for 1.5 m, in the case that only one evaporator was heated, evaporator 1 can transport 80 W for 1.5 m, while eva- porator 2 can transport 120 W for 1.5 m. Two flow regulators were installed near the confluence of liquid line to prevent uncondensed vapor penetrating into returning liquid when the tempera- ture difference exists between two radiators. In the case that the heat load at both evaporators were 40/40 W and one radiator was heated, the flow regulator1 can tolerate the 160 W of heat load which was supplied to radiator1 while the flow regulator2 can tolerate the 100 W of heat load which was supplied to radiator2. To demonstrate the multiple loop heat pipe’s startup behavior at lowheat load, each of the compensation chamber was preheated to change the initial distribution of liquid and vapor in the evaporator and compensation chamber, in the result, each evaporator can start up at 5W through preheating.

Advantage of autologous blood transfusion in surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM: To evaluate the significance of autologous blood transfusion (AT) in reducing homologous blood transfusion (HT) in surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: The proportion of patients who received HT was compared between two groups determined by the time of AT introduction; period A (1991-1994, n = 93) and period B (1995-2000, n = 201). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed in order to identify independent significant predictors of the need for HT. We also investigated the impact of AT and HT on long-term postoperative outcome after curative surgery for HCC. RESULTS: The proportion of patients with HT was significantly lower in period B than period A (18.9% vs 60.2%, P < 0.0001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified AT administration as a significant independent predictor of the need for HT (P < 0.0001). Disease-free survival in patients with AT was comparable to that without any transfusion. Multivariate analysis identified HT administration as an independent significant factor for poorer disease-free survival (P = 0.0380). CONCLUSION: AT administration significantly decreased the need for HT. Considering the postoperative survival disadvantage of HT, AT administration could improve the long-term outcome of HCC patients.
