Resolving three-dimensional morphological features in thick specimens remains a significant challenge for label-free *** report a new speckle diffraction tomography(sDT)approach that can image thick biological specimens with~500 nm lateral resolution and~1μm axial resolution in a reflection *** sDT,multiple-scattering background is rejected through spatiotemporal gating provided by dynamic speckle-field interferometry,while depth-resolved refractive index maps are reconstructed by developing a comprehensive inverse-scattering model that also considers specimen-induced *** from the high-resolution and full-field quantitative imaging capabilities of sDT,we successfully imaged red blood cells and quantified their membrane fluctuations behind a turbid medium with a thickness of 2.8 scattering mean-free *** importantly,we performed volumetric imaging of cornea inside an ex vivo rat eye and quantified its optical properties,including the mapping of nanoscale topographic features of Dua’s and Descemet’s membranes that had not been previously visualized.

Background:Neovascular age-related macular degeneration(AMD)and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)are sight-threatening maculopathies with both environmental and genetic risk *** have previously shown relative risks posed by genes of the complement pathways to neovascular AMD and ***:In this study,we investigated the haplotype-tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms(sNPs)in the complement component 5(C5)gene in 708 unrelated Chinese individuals:200 neovascular AMD patients,233 PCV patients and 275 *** tagging sNPs in C5 were *** single sNP association analysis,haplotype-based association analysis and gene-gene interaction analysis between C5 and other AMD-associated genes were ***:The results revealed none of the six tagging sNPs of the C5 gene had a significant association with neovascular AMD or PCV(P>0.05).We also found insignificant haplotype-based association,and no significant sNPsNP interaction between C5 and other genes(including C2-CFB-RDBP-sKIV2L,sERPINg1,CETP,ABCg1,PgF,ANgPT2,CFH and HTRA1)for neovascular AMD and ***:This study showed no statistical significance in the genetic association of C5 with neovascular AMD or PCV in a Hong Kong Chinese *** studies in large samples from different populations are warranted to elucidate the role of C5 in the genetic susceptibility of AMD and PCV.

There is little empirical evidence in the literature about the indoor environmental quality performance of residential buildings in general and of social housing in particular. To address this problem, this study used a mixed-method approach to evaluate the indoor environmental quality performance of 17 green low-income single attached family houses in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Questionnaires were administered to occupants to assess their snapshot and long-term satisfaction with the indoor environment. In addition, snapshot measurements were carried out to evaluate the indoor environmental quality factors of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting and acoustics. Occupants’ snapshot satisfaction was categorized into two groups (i.e. satisfied/comfortable or dissatisfied/uncomfortable) and compared with snapshot measurements. The results showed the measured IEQ parameters were well below recommended threshold levels. Further, occupants with higher snapshot satisfaction were generally exposed to relatively lower levels of indoor pollutants. A statistically significant difference was found in PM10 level only between the snapshot satisfied and snapshot dissatisfied groups of occupants. Apparent sound transmission classes were below the standard reference value of 50, suggesting potential problems in noise attenuation within different spaces in each apartment and between apartments. The findings of this study could help governments implement green shadowing for public-housing and also renovate existing houses using the same principles.

An increasing prevalence of bone-related injuries and aging geriatric populations continue to drive the orthopaedic implant market.A hierarchical analysis of bone remodelling after material implantation is necessary to better understand the relationship between implant and ***,which are housed and communicate through the lacuno-canalicular network(LCN),are integral to bone health and remodelling ***,it is essential to examine the framework of the LCN in response to implant materials or surface *** materials offer an alternative solution to permanent implants,which may require revision or removal *** alloys have resurfaced as promising materials due to their bone-like properties and safe degradation in *** further tailor their degradation capabilities,surface treatments such as plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)have demonstrated to slow *** the first time,the influence of a biodegradable material on the LCN is investigated by means of non-destructive 3D *** this pilot study,we hypothesize noticeable variations in the LCN caused by altered chemical stimuli introduced by the *** synchrotron-based transmission X-ray microscopy,we have characterised morphological LCN differences around uncoated and PEO-coated WE43 screws implanted into sheep *** specimens were explanted after 4,8,and 12 weeks and regions near the implant surface were prepared for *** from this investigation indicate that the slower degradation of PEO-coated WE43 induces healthier lacunar shapes within the ***,the stimuli perceived by the uncoated material with higher degradation rates induces a greater connected LCN better prepared for bone disturbance.

Flash floods are responsible for loss of life and considerable property damage in many *** susceptibility maps contribute to flood risk reduction in areas that are prone to this hazard if appropriately used by landuse planners and emergency *** main objective of this study is to prepare an accurate flood susceptibility map for the Haraz watershed in Iran using a novel modeling approach(DBPgA)based on Deep Belief Network(DBN)with Back Propagation(BP)algorithm optimized by the genetic Algorithm(gA).For this task,a database comprising ten conditioning factors and 194 flood locations was created using the One-R Attribute Evaluation(ORAE)*** well-known machine learning and optimization algorithms were used as benchmarks to compare the prediction accuracy of the proposed *** metrics include sensitivity,specificity accuracy,root mean square error(RMsE),and area under the receiver operatic characteristic curve(AUC)were used to assess the validity of the proposed *** result shows that the proposed model has the highest goodness-of-fit(AUC=0.989)and prediction accuracy(AUC=0.985),and based on the validation dataset it outperforms benchmark models including LR(0.885),LMT(0.934),BLR(0.936),ADT(0.976),NBT(0.974),REPTree(0.811),ANFIs-BAT(0.944),ANFIs-CA(0.921),ANFIs-IWO(0.939),ANFIs-ICA(0.947),and ANFIs-FA(0.917).We conclude that the DBPgA model is an excellent alternative tool for predicting flash flood susceptibility for other regions prone to flash floods.

Magnesium(Mg)implants have shown to cause image artefacts or distortions in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Yet,there is a lack of information on how the degradation of Mg-based implants influences the image quality of MRI *** this study,Mg-based implants are analysed in vitro,ex vivo,and in the clinical setting for various magnetic field strengths with the aim to quantify metallic artefact *** vitro corroded Mg-based screws and a titanium(Ti)equivalent were imaged according to the AsTM ***-based and Ti pins were also implanted into rat femurs for different time points and scanned to provide insights on the influence of soft and hard tissue on metallic ***,MRI data of patients with scaphoid fractures treated with CE-approved Mg-based compression screws(MAgNEZIX®)were analysed at various time points *** artefact production of the Mg-based material decreased as implant material degraded in all *** worst-case imaging scenario was determined to be when the imaging plane was selected to be perpendicular to the implant ***,the Mg-based implant outperformed the Ti equivalent in all experiments by producing lower metallic artefact(ps investigation demonstrates that Mg-based implants generate significantly lower metallic distortion in MRI when compared to *** positive findings suggest and support further research into the application of Mg-based implants including post-operative care facilitated by MRI monitoring of degradation kinetics and bone/tissue healing processes.
