In the paper we discuss and compare two commonly used methods of finding the shortest paths in networks,namely Dijkstra’s and A**** compare their effectiveness in terms of traversing road network in circumstances that require swift decision making in the event of dynamically changing road conditions on the basis of studies conducted for evacuation *** build a proper model of such a network,a method of appropriate edge-weighting is introduced,based on empirical data collected by other ***,we use the basics of the theory of quasimetric spaces to introduce a heuristic to such graphs,which is easy to calculate *** heuristic we obtain is both admissible and consistent,which allows us to use it efficiently in A*search *** developed application can be used in studies into evacuation from hazardous *** this case,optimum calculative efficiency is achievable with a simultaneous reduction of calculation time(when compared to Dijkstra’s algorithm).Our application can be applied during the first stage,i.e.,prior to the occurrence of a disaster,since this is an appropriate time for preparation by planning,drilling,early warning,and designating the rescue services that are to participate in the following stages.

AnMg-2Zn-0.6Zr-0.6Nd alloy for biodegradable cardiovascular stent applications was prepared through indirect extrusion. The alloy exhibited a superior combination of tensile yield strength(TYS), ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and elongation(EL) of about 269 MPa, 298 MPa and 25.6 %, respectively. In addition,the non-destructive electrochemical frequency modulation(EFM) technique was used for the first time to investigate the corrosion behavior of Mg alloys combined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium(DMEM) and in Hank’s solution. Compared with the corrosion rate of 0.07 mm/year in Hank’s solution, lower corrosion rate of 0.03 mm/year was achieved in DMEM. The significant differences between the corrosion rate trends were discussed and related with the composition of the corrosion layer formed. Depending on the biomimetic fluids tested, different corrosion products were precipitated on the alloy’s surface: a compact and homogeneous layer of Mg_(x)Ca_(y)(PO_(4))_(z) and Zn(OH)_(2) and organic compounds was formed in DMEM, whereas a partial coverage of Mg_(x)Ca_(y)(PO_(4))_(z) and Zn(OH)_(2) was formed in Hank’s solution.

Aims: The goal of the present study is to summarize our experience on surgical management of retraction pockets(RP) as a preventive tool against ***:Twenty-five ears have been followed up for a mean period of 6.16 ± 4.35 years(from 1 to 17 years). The sample presented a mean age of 47.56 + 19.11 years(from 16 to 73 years). All patients underwent cartilage graft surgery. Furthermore 10(40%) underwent tympanoplasty(TPL) type Ⅰ, 14(56%) TPL type Ⅱ and 1(4%) TPL type Ⅴ.Results: Eleven ears(44%) showed cholesteatoma: all these cases were stage Ⅲ according to Charachon staging, and stage Ⅳ or Ⅴ according to Gersdorff classification. Twelve patients(48%) showed erosion of the ossicular chain. Of these, five were associated with cholesteatoma and seven only with retraction. The recurrence rate of cholesteatoma was 12%. None of the patients with a stage Ⅱ or Ⅲ RP(according to Gersdorff classification) developed cholesteatoma. The recurrence of RP was 0%.In regards to literature review, seven references were selected. These studies showed a success rate ranging from 79.1% to 88%, while recurrences of RP varied from 6.4% to 13%. Only one study specified a recurrence rate of cholesteatoma of 28%.Conclusions: Surgical treatment of stages Ⅱ and Ⅲ RP is an effective tool to prevent cholesteatoma formation. The presence of keratin accumulation and cholesteatoma at the RP(stages Ⅳ and Ⅴ, according to Gersdorff) are the real predictors of poor prognosis.

BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a highly prevalent condition. It is diagnosed on the basis of chronic symptoms after the clinical and/or investigative exclusion of organic diseases that can cause similar symptoms. There is no reproducible noninvasive test for the diagnosis of IBS, and this raises diagnostic uncertainty among physicians and hinders acceptance of the diagnosis by *** gastrointestinal(GI) syndromes often present with overlapping upper and lower GI tract symptoms, now believed to be generated by visceral hypersensitivity. This study examines the possibility that, in IBS, a nutrient drink test(NDT) provokes GI symptoms that allow a positive differentiation of these patients from healthy *** To evaluate the NDT for the diagnosis of *** This prospective case-control study compared the effect of two different nutrient drinks on GI symptoms in 10 IBS patients(patients) and 10 healthy controls(controls). The 500 kcal high nutrient drink and the low nutrient 250 kcal drink were given in randomized order on separate days. Symptoms were assessed just before and at several time points after drink ingestion. Global dyspepsia and abdominal scores were derived from individual symptom data recorded by two questionnaires designed by our group, the upper and the general GI symptomquestionnaires, respectively. Psycho-social morbidity and quality of life were also formally assessed. The scores of patients and controls were compared using single factor analysis of variance *** At baseline, IBS patients compared to controls had significantly higher levels of GI symptoms such as gastro-esophageal reflux(P = 0.05), abdominal pain(P =0.001), dyspepsia(P = 0.001), diarrhea(P = 0.001), and constipation(P = 0.001) as well as higher psycho-social morbidity and lower quality of life. AIM: To investigate the potential therapeutic effect of exopolysaccharide (EPS)-producing Streptococcus thermophilus (S. thermophilus) CRL 1190 fermented milk on chronic gastritis in Balb/c mice. METHODS: Balb/c mice were fed with the fermented milk for 7 d after inducing gastritis with acetyl-salicylic acid (ASA, 400 mg/kg body weight per day for 10 d). Omeprazole was included in this study as a positive therapeutic control. The gastric in? ammatory activity was evaluated from gastric histology and in? ammation score, number of interleukin-10 (IL-10), interferon-γ (INFγ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) cytokine-producing cells in the gastric mucosa, and thickness of the mucus layer. RESULTS: Animals receiving treatment with the EPS-producing S. thermophilus CRL 1190 fermented milk showed a conserved gastric mucosa structure similar to that of healthy animals. In? ammation scores of the fermented milk-treated mice were lower than those of mice in the gastritis group (0.2 ± 0.03 vs 2.0 ± 0.6, P < 0.05). A marked decrease in INFγ+ (15 ± 1.0 vs 28 ± 1.2, P < 0.05) and TNF-α+ (16 ± 3.0 vs 33 ± 3.0, P < 0.05) cells and an increase in IL-10+ (28 ± 1.5 vs 14 ± 1.3, P < 0.05) cells compared to the gastritis group, was observed. Also, an increase in the thickness of the mucus gel layer (2.2 ± 0.6 vs 1.0 ± 0.3; 5.1 ± 0.8 vs 1.5 ± 0.4 in the corpus and antrum mucosa, respectively, P < 0.05) compared with the gastritis group was noted. A milk suspension of the purif ied EPS from S. thermophilus CRL1190 was also effective as therapy for gastritis.
