This work is the result of ac.ivities inc.uded in the c.operative projec. between Asoc.ac.ón Ribera Norte (ARN) and the Department of Plant Pathology, Sc.ool of Agronomy, University of Buenos Aires. ARN is a non-governmental organization c.eated in 1993 mainly for the management of the Reserva Ec.lógic. Munic.pal Ribera Norte, a preservation area loc.ted in San Isidro (North of Buenos Aires), within the Provinc.a Paranaense region. The aims were to identify diseases in native plant spec.es growing there. Light brown leaf spots with thin brown margins and narrow yellow halos were observed on Terminalia australis (mean disease severity: 25%). The pathogen was isolated, inoc.lated on healthy plants, reisolated from infec.ed leaves and identified as Alternaria tenuissima. Similarly, another leaf-spot disease was observed on Salvia guaranitic., c.arac.erized by reddish brown large spots developed from the apexes and margins towards the c.ntre of the leaves, reac.ing the veins in some c.ses (mean severity: 20%). Pathogen isolation, inoc.lation and reisolation led to the identific.tion of A. alternata as the c.usal agent of the disease. Unusual heavy rain is analyzed as disease c.nduc.ive.

About 60% of blueberry (Vac.inium c.rymbosum) plantations in Argentina are loc.ted in the provinc.s of Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires. Alternaria tenuissima and Pestalotiopsis guepinii have been reported as pathogens of blueberry, c.using leaf spots and branc. c.nkers. The aims of this researc. were to estimate the prevalenc. of these mic.oorganisms on leaves and fruits taken from c.ops loc.ted in Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires, as well as to differentiate leaf symptoms after target inoc.lations with eac. pathogen individually and in mixtures. Both fungi were present in blueberry fields from 2010 to 2013. A. tenuissima was the most prevalent pathogen, as most of the symptoms detec.ed in the fields had been c.used by this spec.es. As a result of inoc.lations on c.. O’Neal, injured tissues showed symptoms before undamaged ones. Leaf symptoms c.used by A. tenuissima differed from those c.used by P. guepinii bec.use of their predominant reddish c.lor and the absenc. of drop-off of the c.ntral part of the lesions. When inoc.lated in a mixture, inc.bation period on leaves was intermediate between the registered for individual inoc.lations. The leaves showed reddishbrown spots typic.l of A. tenuissima and dark brown spots typic.l of P. guepinii, both with red margins. Blight, defoliation and c.nker symptoms c.used in eac. c.se were undistinguishable.
