In recent years,microwave(MW)drying has gained popularity as an alternative drying method for a wide variety of food and agricultural products because of increasing concerns over product quality and production ***,the determination of drying kinetics that accurately describes microwave drying characteristics is crucial for the optimization of operating parameters,performance improvement of the drying system and product *** objective of this study was to investigate the drying kinetics and the quality characteristics of corn kernels,especially the effects of different initial moisture contents(18.3%,26.3%,34.3%and 42.3%db),MW power levels(70,175 and 245 W)and exposure time(80 s and 120 s)on the drying kinetics,drying rate and various key quality *** results indicated that the increased drying rate at higher power levels(P3,245 W)reduced the drying time considerably but increased stress crack index and reduced *** addition,it reduced bulk density,true density and thousand grain weight(TGW).The germination rate of corn was the highest at MW power level P1(70 W),with the lowest drying rate and observed to decrease with increase in initial moisture *** reduction in exposure time decreased stress crack index and increased germination rate,bulk density and true *** correlation analysis among drying rate,germination,stress-crack index(ScI),bulk density,true density and TGW showed that increasing drying rate could lead to an increase in ScI and decrease in germination,bulk density and true density.

Esophageal adenocarcinoma is a cancer with poor prognosis, and its incidence has risen sharply over recent decades. Obesity is a major risk factor for developing this cancer and there is a clear male gender bias in the incidence that cannot be fully explained by known risk factors. It is possible that a difference in the expression of estrogen, or its signaling axes, may contribute to this gender bias. We undertook a com- prehensive literature search and analyzed the available data regarding estrogen and estrogen receptor expres- sion, and the possible sex-specific links with esopha- geal adenocarcinoma development. Potentially relevant associations between visceral vs subcutaneous fat deposition and estrogen expression, and the effect of crosstalk between estrogen and leptin signaling were identified. We also found limited studies suggesting a role for estrogen receptor 13 expression in esophageal adenocarcinoma development. The current literature supports speculation on an etiological role for estrogen in the male gender bias in esophageal adenocarcino- ma, but further studies are required.

A study was conducted to quantify wintertime contributions of source types to carbonaceous PM2.5 at four urban sites in the Las Vegas Valley, one of the most rapidly growing urban areas in the southwestern United States. Twenty-four hour average ambient samples were collected for mass, ions, elements, organic carbon （Oc）, elemental carbon （Ec）, and trace organic markers analysis. Additional measurements were made to determine diurnal patterns in light-absorbing black carbon （Bc） as a marker for combustion sources. carbonaceous PM sources of on-road gasoline vehicles, on-road diesel vehicles, and off-road diesel engines were characterized with their chemical profiles, as well as fuel-based emission factors, using an In-Plume Sampling System. The Effective Variance chemical Mass Balance （EV-cMB） source apportionment model was applied to the ambient samples collected, using source profiles developed in this study as well as profiles from other relevant studies. Four main sources contributed to PM2.5 carbon within the Las Vegas Valley：（1） paved road dust, （2） on-road gasoline vehicles, （3） residential wood combustion, and （4） on-road diesel vehicles. cMB estimated that on-road mixed fleet gasoline vehicles are the largest source for Oc and Ec at all the sites. The contribution of paved road dust to both Oc and Ec was 5-10% at the four sites. On-road diesel vehicles contribute 22% of the Oc and 34% of the Ec at a site near the city center, which is located immediately downwind of a major freeway. Residential wood combustion is a more important source than on-road diesel vehicles for two residential neighborhood sites, These results are consistent with our conceptual model, and the research methodology may be applied to studying other urban areas.

The novel lead-free ferroelectric relaxor system x(Bi(Zn_(2/3) Nb_(1/3))O_(3))(1−x)BaTiO3(xBZN(1−x)BT)has received interest as a high-capacity relaxor dielectric *** quantities(cant impacts on the structure of the BaTiO_(3) *** study evaluates the effect of BZN additions to the BaTiO_(3) host up to xBZN=10.0%.Initial additions of BZN were observed to stabilize tetragonal and orthorhombic coexistence at 295 K,alongside increasing dielectric *** dielectric constant and polarization were observed at xcoinciding with maximum orthorhombic intensity and a local minima in tetragonal *** 0creasing polarization and a drop in Tm and classi-cal ferroelectric *** significant dielectric dispersion was observed for compositions xcy range 5-640 *** at x>4.0%showed the onset of dielectric relaxation alongside a drop in polarization coincident with a drop in the tetragonal c_(T)/a_(T) ratio and the onset of the cubic phase at 295 *** piezoelectric,dielectric and polarization values occurred over the range 3.8%c *** BZN additions showed a rapid onset of dielectric relaxation,alongside an increase in cubic intensity and a continuous drop in T_(m) with a minima near x=7.0%.Tetragonal presence at 295 K also vanished to zero at x=7.0%.Polarization loops ceased showing ferroelectric characteristics at x>5.0%,showing a transition from lossy relaxor dielectric to low-loss relaxor dielectric at x>10.0%.
