BAcKGROUND Group B Streptococcus(GBS)is a normal component of the gastrointestinal and genital microbiota in humans and can lead to important infections in *** To compare GBS isolation and identification methods as well as to assess the antibiotic susceptibility and to identify resistance genes in GBS strains from pregnant women attended in healthcare services from the city of Vitória da conquista,in Bahia State,*** From January 2017 to February 2018,vaginorectal swabs were obtained from 186 participants and the samples were seeded onto chromogenic agar for GBS before and after inoculation in selective *** identification using 3 cAMP and latex tests was performed in samples with GBS-suggestive ***,disk diffusion antibiograms were performed in GBS-positive samples,and the detection of the resistance genes ermB,ermTR,mefA,and linB in the clindamycin and/or erythromycin-resistant samples was carried *** Thirty-two samples(17.2%)were *** culture in chromogenic agar after sample incubation in selective broth was the most sensitive method(96.9%)for GBS *** isolates were susceptible to penicillin,ampicillin,cefotaxime,and *** resistance was observed in 6 samples(18.8%),while 8 samples(25%)were *** erythromycin and/or clindamycin-resistant GBS strains had negative *** strains(25%)presented an M phenotype and 6 isolates(75%)presented a cMLSB *** ermB gene was identified in 4 samples(44.4%),the mefA gene was also found in 4 samples(44.4%),the ermTR gene was identified in 1 isolate(11.1%),and the linB gene was not found in any *** This study evidenced that the screening for SGB can be performed by means of various methods,including chromogenic media,and that the chemoprophylaxis for pregnant women who cannot use penicillin must be susceptibility-guided.

Automatic detection of cOVID-19 Infection Using chest X-Ray Images Through Transfer Learning

The new coronavirus(cOVID-19),declared by the World Health Organization as a pandemic,has infected more than 1 million people and killed more than 50 *** infection caused by cOVID-19 can develop into pneumonia,which can be detected by a chest X-ray exam and should be treated *** this work,we propose an automatic detection method for cOVID-19 infection based on chest X-ray *** datasets constructed for this study are composed of194 X-ray images of patients diagnosed with coronavirus and 194 X-ray images of healthy *** few images of patients with cOVID-19 are publicly available,we apply the concept of transfer learning for this *** use different architectures of convolutional neural networks(cNNs)trained on Image Net,and adapt them to behave as feature extractors for the X-ray ***,the cNNs are combined with consolidated machine learning methods,such as k-Nearest Neighbor,Bayes,Random Forest,multilayer perceptron(MLP),and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,for one of the datasets,the extractor-classifier pair with the best performance is the Mobile Net architecture with the SVM classifier using a linear kernel,which achieves an accuracy and an F1-score of 98.5%.For the other dataset,the best pair is dense Net201 with MLP,achieving an accuracy and an F1-score of 95.6%.Thus,the proposed approach demonstrates efficiency in detecting cOVID-19 in X-ray images.

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis of the pathology results in inadequate classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to point out updated national and international practice protocols of diagnosis of GTD, through an integrative review. Seven articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hcG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized (usually one month for Partial Hydatidiform Mole six months for complete Hydatidiform Mole and one year for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia). Unfortunately, regarding the diagnosis of MH, the guidelines of some countries show the absence or difficulty of access to the karyotype test and ploid p57 or pelvic ultrasound accompanying the uterine curettage, contrary to what is proposed by the IFGO guideline. Establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of recurrence, morbidity and mortality, especially in less developed countries.

Bacterial colonization of the gut shapes both the local and the systemic immune response and is implicated in the modulation of immunity in both healthy and disease states. Recently, quantitative and qualitative changes in the composition of the gut microbiota have been detected in crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, reinforcing the hypothesis of dysbiosis as a relevant mechanism underlying inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) pathogenesis. Humans and microbes have coexisted and co-evolved for a long time in a mutually beneficial symbiotic association essential for maintaining homeostasis. However, the microbiome is dynamic, changing with age and in response to environmental modifications. Among such environmental factors, food and alimentary habits, progressively altered in modern societies, appear to be critical modulators of the microbiota, contributing to or co-participating in dysbiosis. In addition, food constituents such as micronutrients are important regulators of mucosal immunity, with direct or indirect effects on the gut microbiota. Moreover, food constituents have recently been shown to modulate epigenetic mechanisms, which can result in increased risk for the development and progression of IBD. Therefore, it is likely that a better understanding of the role of different food components in intestinal homeostasis and the resident microbiota will be essential for unravelling the complex molecular basis of the epigenetic, genetic and environment interactions underlying IBD pathogenesis as well as for offering dietary interventions with minimal side effects.
