Scoping review: obese elderly women with breast cancer and physical activity/exercise

Objective:Obesity and breast cancer(BC)are diseases of concern,especially within the context of an aging *** scoping review is aimed at mapping out the literature on the subject of elderly women(EW)with breast cancer,obesity and physical activity/exercise(PAE)to identify gaps in the present extant literature,and to suggest directions for future *** sources:A total of four articles were finalized from an initial 2905 articles found via searches on the Annals of Internal Medicine by American College of Physicians(ACP)^(TM),BioMed Central(BMC)^(TM),BMJ Journals^(TM),Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA)^(TM),PubMed^(TM),SAGE^(TM),ScienceDirect^(TM),SpringerLink(e-journals)^(TM),Taylor and Francis Online^(TM),and Wiley Online Library^(TM) ***:Recognized structural frameworks for scoping reviews were utilized to guide the methodology and technical aspects of this *** extraction was conducted via a charting ***:Research gaps identified include a paucity in research on the subject of obesity and breast cancer among elderly women;there is a limitation of the types of methodologies used in the research on this subject indicating vast opportunities for future studies using different methodologies;lack of use of the alternative types of physical activity and exercise such as Tai Chi,Qigong and Yoga;lack of focus on the older elderly population;and areas of social support from family and friends for obese elderly with breast cancer to engage in physical activity and ***:Future research would address the urgent need within academia to address the research gap of PAE and *** research should use a diverse range of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies,while including eastern exercise regimens such as Tai Chi,Qigong and Yoga as a means of studying PAE among ***,future research may focus on the“old elderly”as a demographic group of study as well as how social suppo

CFD aided investigation of single droplet coalescence

Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation facilitated by preprocedural three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography: Long-term outcome

AIM To evaluate the long-term outcome of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation(AF) facilitated by preprocedural threedimensional(3-D) transesophageal *** In 50 patients, 3D transesophageal echocardiography(3D TEE) was performed immediately prior to an ablation procedure(paroxysmal AF: 30 patients, persistent AF: 20 patients). The images were available throughout the ablation procedure. Two different ablation strategies were used. In most of the patients with paroxysmal AF, the cryoablation technique was used(Arctic Front Balloon, Cryo Cath Technologies/Medtronic; group A2). In the other patients, a circumferential pulmonary vein ablation was performed using the CARTO system [Biosense Webster; group A1(paroxysmal AF), group B(persistent AF)]. Success rates and complication rates were analysed at 4-year *** A 3D TEE could be performed successfully in all patients prior to the ablation procedure and all four pulmonaryvein ostia could be evaluated in 84% of patients. The image quality was excellent in the majority of patients and several variations of the pulmonary vein anatomy could be visualized precisely(e.g., common pulmonary vein ostia, accessory pulmonary veins, varying diameter of the left atrial appendage and its distance to the left superior pulmonary vein). All ablation procedures could be performed as planned and almost all pulmonary veins could be isolated successfully. At 48-mo followup, 68.0% of all patients were free from an arrhythmia recurrence(group A1: 72.7%, group A2: 73.7%, group B: 60.0%). There were no major ***3 D TEE provides an excellent overview over the left atrial anatomy prior to AF ablation procedures and these procedures are associated with a favourable long-term outcome.

To efficiently mitigate bacterial mediated acid and metal discharge from acid sulfate soils,ironand sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms that catalyze the iron sulfide dissolution should be *** organic carbon source could further be introduced into the soil to promote the growth of iron-and sulfur-reducing *** this study,acid sulfate soil was amended with a mobile form of ultrafine calcium carbonate alone or in combination with fractions of peat,sodium acetate,or sodium *** introduction of ultrafine calcium carbonate resulted in a raised pH that appeared to inactivate the acidophiles,but did not reactivate iron-or sulfurreducing *** addition of organic matter resulted in higher microbial diversities and retention of metals,although acid-tolerant and acidophilic microbes still dominated.A low abundance of an iron-reducing bacteria was identified in the all treatments with both peat fractions and pure organic carbon *** results indicated that biodegraded peat could be used as an energy source for at least iron-reducing bacteria in the acid sulfate soil at the same time as it retains metals in the *** findings are of value for further developing mitigation methods for the sustainable use of acid sulfate soils.

Innate immune receptors in heart failure: Side effect or potential therapeutic target?

Heart failure(HF) is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in western countries and occasions major expenses for public health systems. Although optimal medical treatment is widely available according to current guidelines, the prognosis of patients with HF is still poor. Despite the etiology of the disease, increased systemic or cardiac activation of the innate immune system is well documented in several types of HF. In some cases there is evidence of an association between innate immune activation and clinical outcome of patients with this disease. However, the few large trials conducted with the use of anti-inflammatory medication in HF have not revealed its benefits. Thus, greater understanding of the relationship between alteration in the immune system and development and progression of HF is urgently necessary: prior to designing therapeutic interventions that target pathological inflammatory processes in preventing harmful cardiac effects of immune modulatory therapy. In this regard, relatively recently discovered receptors of the innate immune system, i.e., namely toll-like receptors(TLRs) and nodlike receptors(NLRs)-are the focus of intense cardiovascular research. These receptors are main up-stream regulators of cytokine activation. This review will focus on current knowledge of the role of TLRs and NLRs, as well as on downstream cytokine activation, and will discuss potential therapeutic implications.

Is hepatic steatosis associated with left ventricular mass index increase in the general population?

AIM To investigate the association between hepatic steatosis and change in left ventricular mass index(LVMI) over five years, and examine whether systolic and diastolic blood pressures are mediators of the association between hepatic steatosis and LVMI using a general population *** We analyzed data from the Study of Health in Pomerania. The study population comprised 1298individuals aged 45 to 81 years. Hepatic steatosis was defined as the presence of a hyperechogenic pattern of the liver together with elevated serum alanine transferase levels. Left ventricular mass was determined echocardiographically and indexed to height2.7. Path analyses were conducted to differentiate direct and indirect paths from hepatic steatosis to LVMI encompassing systolic and diastolic blood pressure as potential mediating *** Hepatic steatosis was a significant predictor for all measured echocardiographic characteristics at baseline. Path analyses revealed that the association of hepatic steatosis with LVMI change after five years was negligibly small(β =-0.12, s.e. = 0.21, P = 0.55). Systolic blood pressure at baseline was inversely associated with LVMI change(β =-0.09, s.e. = 0.03, P < 0.01), while no association between diastolic blood pressure at baseline and LVMI change was evident(β = 0.03, s.e. = 0.05, P = 0.56). The effect of the indirect path from hepatic steatosis to LVMI via systolic baseline blood pressure was small(β =-0.20, s.e. = 0.10, P = 0.07). No indirect effect was observed for the path via diastolic baseline blood pressure(β = 0.03, s.e. = 0.06, P = 0.60). Similar associations were observed in the subgroup of individuals not receiving beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, or drugs acting on the reninangiotensin *** Baseline associations between hepatic steatosis and LVMI do not extend to associations with LVMI change after five years. More studies are needed to study the longitudinal effects of hepatic steatosis on LVMI.

Argon-seeded plasma exposure and oxidation performance of tungsten-chromium-yttrium smart alloys

Segregation of F-2 interspecific hybrid growth performance and wing color patterns relative to parental species in the Papilio machaon species group （Lepidoptera： Papilionidae）

A strange Papilio female specimen with a prominent yellow wing band type very much like P. brevicauda （and also seen in P. machaon, and P. zelicaon） was captured in the forested mountains of southwest Vermont, USA. Despite its brevicauda-like appearance, it had mt-DNA of P. polyxenes. In eastern North America the P. brevicauda （Maritime Provinces of Canada） is currently believed to reflect previous （ancient） hybridization between ancestral P. machaon and P. polyxenes. It is uncertain whether the brevicauda-like wing trait features in the odd Vermont female may be a result of some introgression of P. machaon or P. brevicauda with P. polyxenes in eastern North America as seen also in the Ozark Mountains with P. joanae. Nonetheless, the significance of wing trait analyses in relation to hybrid zones with P. polyxenes remains relevant. The segregation of wing color patterns and hostplant use abilities （efficiencies and growth rates） were examined for laboratory hand-paired F-2 hybrids of P. zelicaon ~ Papilio polyxenes relative to the parental species and primary hybrids. The black adult color pattern characterizing P. polyxenes is presumed to be inherited as a simple autosomal dominant. These hybrids were examined to determine：（i） how F-1 primary hybrid offspring perform relative to the parental types in survival, growth rates, and growth efficiencies; and （ii） whether these larval traits and the adult color patterns might be linked with wing morphology in the F-2 hybrids. While the F-1 hybrids grew as well as the P. polyxenes parent （P. zelicaon was significantly less efficient and slower in growth than either of these）, we could not convincingly determine whether the growth performances of the F-2 segregants were linked with the parental wing patterns.
