Background: Many studies have underlined as caregiving for people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is highly stressful and has significant negative consequences. Objectives: The study of the structure of personality, can help to understand the association between depression, intrapsychic and interpersonal processes of caregivers of Alzheimer’s disease patients and what kind of intervention can be planned to favor the stress burden management. Methods: Case group: Caregivers (CG) (n = 75);control group, Subjects not Caregivers (nCG) (n. 104). Tests: SASB questionnaire (Structural Analysis of Interpersonal Behavior) describing intrapsychic and interpersonal processes of the structure of personality validated on the basis of DSMIV;CDQ questionnaires—depression. Results: Intrapsychic level: From the results it emerged that CGs had lower autonomy in their choices, and lower acceptance of their own feelings, and exercised greater self-control exhausting themselves toward predetermined goals, and more depression compared to the control group. They may be not able to achieve psychic equilibrium in the presence of stress: they may likely become disoriented and engage in behaviors that may be self-defeating. SASB-Cl = Autonomy (p 0.001);SASB-Cl2-Autonomy and Love (p 0.001), SASB-CL3-Love (p 0.001);SASB-Cl4 Love and control (p 0.001), SASB-CL5-Control (p = 0.015), SASB-Cl6-Control and hate (p 0.001), SASB-Cl7-Hate (p Conclusions: Intrapsychic characteristics such as tendency to depression, inability to being in contact with their own feelings, excessive self-control may be linked to difficulties in facing burden of care and indicate serious difficulties to adaptation to burden condition. The knowledge of these modalities could allow to plan a psychotherapeutic and multidisciplinary intervention aimed at facing and overcoming the psychological distress of the caregiver.

Background: Many studies have been underlined as care giving for people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is highly stressful and has significant negative consequences, such as anxiety and depression. Objective: The specific aim of our study is to establish whether a difference exists in the prevalence of depression of family caregivers of Alzheimer’s disease patients and healthy subjects not caregiver. Methods: Study group (n = 60) consists of caregivers of patients affected by Alzheimer’s disease, whereas control group (n = 120) consists of healthy individuals who are not care giving (from at least 5 years). All the subjects were subdivided on the basis of the following independent variables: sex, age, marital status and educational level. The subjects of study and control groups studied have filled in the following tests: IPAT CDQ e IPAT ASQ Tests by Cattell which describe depression and anxiety. Such tests have been validated on the adult and elderly Italian population. Statistical analysis: Student t test has been applied for the comparison between experimental and control groups. Results: The caregivers show higher levels of anxiety (medium to high, P < 0.001) and depression in comparison to the group of control (medium to high, P < 0.001). This result indicates the caregiver shows serious depression. Conclusions: The high levels of depression and anxiety suggest the following considerations: interventions of social and psychological support are fundamental not only to maintain the patient in the family nucleus but also to maintain the caregiver’s psychological health.

Inhibition of host immune response in colorectal cancer:Human leukocyte antigen-G and beyond

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most diffuse cancers worldwide and is still a clinical burden. Increasing evidences associate CRC clinical outcome to immune contexture represented by adaptive immune cells. Their type, density and location are summarized in the Immune Score that has been shown to improve prognostic prediction of CRC patients. The non-classical MHC class I human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G), is a crucial tumor-driven immune escape molecule involved in immune tolerance. HLA-G and soluble counterparts are able to exert inhibitory functions by direct interactions with inhibitory receptors present on both innate cells such as natural killer cells, and adaptive immune cells as cytotoxic T and B lymphocytes. HLA-G may play a prominent role in CRC strategies to avoid host immunosurveillance. This review highlights the current knowledge on HLA-G contribution in CRC, in related inflammatory diseases and in other type of cancers and disorders. HLA-G genetic setting (specific haplotypes, genotypes and alleles frequencies) and association with circulating/soluble profiles was highlighted. HLA G prognostic and predictive value in CRC was investigated in order to define a novel prognostic immune biomarker in CRC.

Significance of bilayer-forming phospholipids for skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity and mitochondrial function

Phosphatidylcholine(PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine(PE), which make up the bulk of mammalian cell membrane phospholipids, are recognized for their importance in metabolic health. Perturbations in the ratio of PC:PE can affect membrane integrity and function, which thus have serious health consequences. Imbalance in the hepatic PC and PE membrane content can be linked to metabolic disturbances such as ER stress, fatty liver and insulin resistance. Given that impaired insulin sensitivity underlies the pathology of many metabolic disorders and skeletal muscle is a significant regulator of energy metabolism, it is likely that aberrant phospholipid metabolism in skeletal muscle affects whole-body insulin sensitivity. Sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca^(2+) ATPase(SERCA) activity and mitochondrial function respond to alterations in PC:PE ratio and are associated with glucose homeostasis. Moreover, PC and PE content within the mitochondrial membrane influence mitochondrial respiration and biogenesis and thus, metabolic function. As skeletal muscle phospholipids respond to stimuli such as diet and exercise, understanding the implications of imbalances in PC:PE ratio is of great importance in the face of the rising epidemic of obesity related diseases. This review will summarize the current state of knowledge signifying the links between skeletal muscle PC:PE ratio and insulin sensitivity with respects to PC and PE metabolism, SERCA activity, mitochondrial function and exercise.

We comment here on the article by Stefanolo et al entitled“Effect of Aspergillus niger prolyl endopeptidase in patients with celiac disease on a long-term gluten-free diet”,published in the World Journal of *** disease is a well-recognized systemic autoimmune *** genetically susceptible people,the most evident damage is located in the small intestine,and is caused and worsened by the ingestion of *** that reason,celiac patients adopt a gluten-free diet(GFD),but it has some limitations,and it does not prevent re-exposure to *** aims to develop adjuvant therapies,and one of the most studied alternatives is supplementation with Aspergillus niger prolyl endopeptidase protease(AN-PEP),which is able to degrade gluten in the stomach,reducing its concentration in the small *** study found a high adherence to the GFD,but did not address AN-PEP as a gluten immunogenic peptide reducer,as it was only tested in patients following a GFD and not in gluten-exposing *** study opens up new research perspectives in this area and shows that further study is needed to clarify the points that are still in doubt.

Frequent Applications of Organic Matter to Agricultural Soil Increase Fungistasis

Soil-borne plant pathogens are among the most important limiting factors for the productivity of agro-ecosystems. Fungistasis is the natural capability of soils to inhibit the germination and growth of soil-borne fungi in the presence of optimal abiotic conditions. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of different soil managements, in terms of soil amendment types and frequency of application, on fungistasis. For this purpose, a microcosm experiment was performed by conditioning a soil with frequent applications of organic matter with contrasting biochemical quality （i. e., glucose, alfalfa straw and wheat straw）. Thereafter, the fungistasis response was assessed on four fungi （Aspergillus niger, Botrytis cinerea, Pyrenoehaeta lycopersici and Trichoderma harzianum）. Conditioned soils were characterized by measuring microbial activity （soil respiration） and functional diversity using the BIOLOG EcoPlatesTM method. Results showed that irrespective of the fungal species and amendment types, frequent applications of organic matter reduced fungistasis relief and shortened the time required for fungistasis restoration. The frequent addition of easily decomposable organic compounds enhanced soil respiration and its specific catabolic capabilities. This study demonstrated that frequent applications of organic matter affected soil fungistasis likely as a result of higher microbial activity and functional diversity.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection is known to cause abnormal hepatic *** long term consequences of such elevations are *** To assessed the prevalence and prognostic value of initial liver enzymes in a large cohort of COVID-19 *** We reviewed electronic medical records of 10614 COVID-19 patients without known chronic liver disease who were admitted to our health system from March 1,2020,to April 30,*** analyzed baseline demographics and liver *** primary outcome was in-hospital mortality,and the secondary outcome was a composite of in-hospital mortality or need for mechanical *** Subjects with abnormal liver tests had increased risks of mortality and composite outcome when compared to patients with normal measurements on unadjusted analysis and after adjustment for demographic *** In our diverse patient population,liver enzyme abnormalities are associated with increased mortality and the need for mechanical ventilation in subjects without chronic liver *** patients are at the greatest risk for poor outcomes.
