Epigenetic changes have been shown to be associated with both aging process and aging-related *** is evidence regarding the benefits of physical activity on the functionality,cognition,and quality of life of institutionalized older adults,however,the molecular mechanisms involved are not *** purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the effects of a multimodal exercise intervention on functional outcomes,cognitive performance,quality of life(QOL),epigenetic markers and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)levels among institutionalized older adult ***(n=8)without dementia who were aged 73.38±11.28 years and predominantly female(87.5%)were included in this quasi-experimental pilot study.A multimodal exercise protocol(cardiovascular capacity,strength,balance/agility andﬂexibility,perception and cognition)consisted of twice weekly sessions(60 minutes each)over 8 ***(Berg Scale),mobility(Timed Up and Go test),functional capacity(Six-Minute Walk test),cognitive function(Mini-Mental State Examination)and QOL(the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF Scale questionnaire)were evaluated before and after the *** sample(15 mL)was also collected before and after intervention for analysis of biomarkers global histone H3 acetylation and brain-derived neurotrophic factor *** improvements were observed in cognitive function,balance,mobility,functional capacity and QOL after the *** addition,a tendency toward an increase in global histone H3 acetylation levels was observed,while brain-derived neurotrophic factor level remained *** study provided evidence that an 8-week multimodal exercise protocol has a significant effect on ameliorating functional outcomes and QOL in institutionalized older adult *** addition,it was also able to promote cognitive improvement,which seems to be partially related to histone hyperacetylation *** Ethics Research Com

Development and mapping of SSR markers linked to resistance-gene homologue clusters in common bean

Common bean is an important but often a disease-susceptible legume crop of temperate,subtropical and tropical regions worldwide. The crop is affected by bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens. The strategy of resistance-gene homologue(RGH) cloning has proven to be an efficient tool for identifying markers and R(resistance) genes associated with resistances to diseases. Microsatellite or SSR markers can be identified by physical association with RGH clones on large-insert DNA clones such as bacterial artificial chromosomes(BACs). Our objectives in this work were to identify RGH-SSR in a BAC library from the Andean genotype G19833 and to test and map any polymorphic markers to identify associations with known positions of disease resistance genes. We developed a set of specific probes designed for clades of common bean RGH genes and then identified positive BAC clones and developed microsatellites from BACs having SSR loci in their end sequences. A total of 629 new RGH-SSRs were identified and named BMr(bean microsatellite RGH-associated markers). A subset of these markers was screened for detecting polymorphism in the genetic mapping population DOR364 × G19833. A genetic map was constructed with a total of 264 markers,among which were 80 RGH loci anchored to single-copy RFLP and SSR markers. Clusters of RGH-SSRs were observed on most of the linkage groups of common bean and in positions associated with R-genes and QTL. The use of these new markers to select for disease resistance is discussed.

Impact of Different Embolic Agents for Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) Procedures on Systemic Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Levels

Background and Aims:Intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be treated by transarterial chemoem-bolization (TACE).However,there appear to be side effects,such as induction of proangiogenic factors,*** endothelial growth factor (VEGF),which have been shown to be associated with a poor *** prospective study was designed to compare serum VEGF level response after TACE with different embolic agents in patients with ***:Patients were assigned to one of three different TACE regimens:degradable starch microspheres (DSM) TACE,drugeluting bead (DEBDOX) TACE or Lipiodol TACE (cTACE).All patients received 50 mg doxorubicin/m2 body surface area (BSA) during *** VEGF levels were assessed before TACE treatment,24 h post-treatment and 4 weeks ***:Twenty-two patients with 30 TACE treatments were *** to baseline VEGF levels,a marked increase was observed for 24 h post-TACE (164% of baseline level) and during the 4-week follow-up (170% of baseline level) only for the cTACE arm (p < 0.05).In contrast,the increase of serum VEGF levels were only 114% and 123% for DEBDOX and 121% and 124% for DSM,***:Conventional TACE using Lipiodol shows marked increase in blood levels of the proangiogenic factor VEGF,while DEBDOX and DSM TACE induce only a moderate VEGF response.

With the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic showing no signs of abating,resuming neglected tropical disease(NTD)activities,particularly mass drug administration(MDA)Z is *** to resume activities will not only enhance the risk of NTD transmission,but will fail to leverage behaviour change messaging on the importance of hand and face washing and improved sanitation--a common strategy for several NTDs that also reduces the risk of COVID-19 *** so-called"hybrid approach"will dem on strate best practices for mitigating the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)by incorporating physical distancing,use of masks,and frequent hand-washing in the delivery of medicines to endemic communities and support action against the transmission of the virus through water,sanitation and hygiene interventions promoted by NTD *** MDA and morbidity management activities resume,achievement of NTD targets as projected in the WHO/NTD Roadmap(2021-2030)will be deferred,the aspirational goal of NTD programmes to enhance universal health coverage jeopardised and the call to leave no one behind'a hollow *** outline what implementing this hybrid approach,which aims to strengthen health systems,and facilitate integration and cross-sector collaboration,can achieve based on work undertaken in several African countries.

This paper aims to present a new point of view about the active power measurement, for billing purposes, measured at the PCC （point of common coupling） between the utility and the consumer when harmonic distortions are involved. Depending on theorigin of it, the active power can result in higher or lower values in comparison to the fundamental component. The consequences are higher costs for the consumer or losses for the electric utility. Using computational simulations and theoretical analysis, these aspects are evaluated and compared.
