Many different techniques may be used to remove industrial pollutants from wastewater. Adsorption using activated carbon has been reported to be an effective method. This work proposes the use of a vegetable residue(black sapote seeds) as a raw material for its synthesis. These carbons were chemically activated using phosphoric acid and carbonized at 673 and 873 K. Adsorption isotherms were constructed for the textile dyes on the carbons, and this data was treated using Langmuir’s equation to quantitatively describe the adsorption process. The synthesized carbons were characterized using FTIR, EA, sEM, Nitrogen adsorption(specific surface areas of 879 and 652 m2·g-1), and their points of zero charge(2.1 and 2.3). It was possible to adsorb both heavy metals and textile dyes present in aqueous solutions and wastewaters using these activated carbons. Heavy metals were adsorbed almost completely by both carbons. Cationic dyes where adsorbed(58–59.8 mg·g-1) in greater amounts compared to anionic dyes(10–58.8 mg·g-1). The amount of anionic dyes adsorbed increased almost 30% by changing the pH of the solutions. One of the carbons was thermally regenerated on three occasions without losing its adsorption capacity and it was proved in a flow system.

In forest production systems, vegetative propagation of elite clones through adventitious rooting is a common practice. In Chile, adventitious rooting is the main methodology for vegetative reproduction of Pinus radiata. However, the capability of produce adventitious roots in gymnosperms decreases with aging. While it is true that some efforts have been made to identify markers or/and regulators of the aging process and adventitious rooting, molecular mechanisms that regulate both processes are scarcely known, especially at protein level. This research evaluated qualitative and quantitative changes in protein accumulation during the adventitious rooting process of P. radiata stem cuttings, with different rooting capabilities. Beside, an analysis of morpho-anatomical changes was performed in stem cuttings with high and low rooting capabilities, during the adventitious rooting process. It was observed that juvenile 1-year-old stem cuttings rooted in a 100%, while aged stem cuttings (3-year-old) presented only a 20% of rooting. According to the results of differential protein accumulation, univariate and multivariate analysis indicated that in total, 114 and 89 proteins were differentially accumulated in juvenile and aged cuttings, respectively. Also, identification of such proteins showed the presence of proteins related to cell wall organization and the presence of a protein related with proper distribution of auxin PIN transporter, both key in the new meristem formation process during adventitious rooting.

The wild solanum pimpinellifolium(sP)and the weedy *** ***(sLC)are largely unexploited genetic reservoirs easily accessible to breeders,as they are fully cross-compatible with cultivated tomato(*** ***).We performed a comprehensive morphological and genomic characterization of four wild sP and four weedy sLC accessions,selected to maximize the range of variation of both *** eight accessions are the founders of the first tomato interspecific multi-parent advanced generation inter-cross(MAGIC)*** morphoagronomic characterization was carried out with 39 descriptors to assess plant,inflorescence,fruit and agronomic traits,revealing the broad range of diversity *** of the morphological variation observed in sP was likely associated to the adaptation of the accessions to different environments,while in the case of sLC to both human activity and adaptation to the ***-genome resequencing of the eight accessions revealed over 12 million variants,ranging from 1.2 to 1.9 million variants in sLC and from 3.1 to 4.8 million in sP,being 46.3%of them(4,897,803)private *** genetic principal component analysis also confirmed the high diversity of sP and the complex evolutionary history of *** was also reflected in the analysis of the potential footprint of common ancestors or old introgressions identified within and between the two *** functional characterization of the variants revealed a significative enrichment of GO terms related to changes in cell walls that would have been negatively selected during domestication and *** comprehensive morphoagronomic and genetic characterization of these accessions will be of great relevance for the genetic analysis of the first interspecific MAGIC population of tomato and provides valuable knowledge and tools to the tomato community for genetic and genomic studies and for breeding purposes.

Objective: To report the renal histological lesions in synanthropic rodents, Mus musculus and Rattus rattus, naturally infected with Leptospira spp., captured in a rural community in Yucatan, Mexico. Methods: Kidney samples of synanthropic rodents were collected from a rural community in Yucatan, Mexico. Polymerase chain reaction was used to detect Leptospira spp. infection. Tissue kidney was fixed in 10% buffered formalin, processed according to the usual techniques for paraffin inclusion, cut and stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and examined using a conventional electronic microscope. Results: A total of 187 rodents were captured. Nine individuals(4.8%) were positive for Leptospira spp. in the molecular analysis. All renal lesions observed in the histopathological study had been reported previously for Leptospira spp. infection. Conclusions: The histopathological lesions are present in the kidneys, plus the results of the polymerase chain reaction confirm that these rodents are true carriers of Leptospira spp.
