Yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ,ZrO_(2)-8%Y2O_(3))films were deposited onto lanthanum strontium manganite(LSM,La_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)MnO_(3))substrates using dip-coating process aiming for the application in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs).YSZ precursor was prepared by sol-gel method;three values of the organic/inorganic concentration ratio(1,3 and 5)were utilized and the sol viscosity was adjusted(60 mPa·s and 100 mPa·s)before deposition on the *** influence of these synthesis parameters on the structure and morphology of the deposited films was examined by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The films showed characteristic peaks of LSM,YSZ(with cubic structure)and secondary phases of SrZrO_(3) and La_(2)O_(3).Depending on the synthesis conditions,crack-free,homogeneous and well adhered films were obtained,with thickness of 11-24μm.

Rose Essential Oil Extraction from Fresh Petals Using Synergetic Microwave ＆ Ultrasound Energy： Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Activity Assessment

The aim of the present work was to investigate the synergetic effect of microwave and ultrasound treatment on the production, chemical composition and antioxidant activity of rose essential oil. The rose essential oil was extracted from fresh Rosa x damciscena Mill. petals by four methods, hydrodistillation, steam distillation, organic solvent extraction and ultrasounds followed by microwave hydrodistillation. The chemical composition of the extracts was analysed by GC-MS, and the antioxidant capacity by DPPH. It was found that both chemical composition and the antioxidant activity of the extracts depend on the extraction method. Overall it was found that microwaves coupled with ultrasonic treatment can be used effectively for the intensification of the extraction of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes--fragrance bearing molecules--and equally, for increased antioxidant activity while using about 4 time shorter extraction time. The scale-up of the method was also evaluated. The results obtained in this research support the possible use of the US/MW method for the extraction of rose essential oil for the pharmaceutical and fragrance industry.

The increased demand for food worldwide,the reduced land availability for livestock pro-duction,the increasing cost of animal feed and the need for mitigating livestock-related greenhouse gas emissions have driven the search for animal feeding systems that proves more *** tackle this problem,we propose the use of computational support to help researchers compare data on feed efficiency,therefore improving economic and environ-mental *** a solution,we present an integrative architecture capable of combining heterogeneous data from multiple experiments related to dairy cattle feed efficiency *** proposed architecture,called FeedEfficiencyService,classifies animals according to feed efficiency indices and allows visualizations through ontologies and inference *** results obtained from a case study with researchers from the Brazilian Agri-cultural Research Corporation–Dairy Cattle(EMBRAPA)demonstrate that this architecture is a supporting tool in their daily work *** researchers highlighted the importance of the proposed architecture as it allows analyzing animal data,comparing experiments,having reliable data analyses,and standardizing and organizing data from *** novelty of our approach is the use of ontologies and inference engines to enable the discovery of new knowledge and new relationships between data from feed efficiency-related *** store such data,relationships,and analyses of results in an inte-grated *** solution ensures unified access to the processing history and data from diverse experiments,including those conducted at external research centers.

In this work,we report long-term trends in the abundance and breeding performance of Adélie penguins(Pygoscelis adeliae)nesting in three Antarctic colonies(i.e.,at Martin Point,South Orkneys Islands;Stranger Point/Cabo Funes,South Shetland Islands;and Esperanza/Hope Bay in the Antarctic Peninsula)from 1995/96 to 2022/*** yearly count data of breeding groups selected,we observed a decline in the number of breeding pairs and chicks in crèche at all colonies ***,the magnitude of change was higher at Stranger Point than that in the remaining ***,the index of breeding success,which was calculated as the ratio of chicks in crèche to breeding pairs,exhibited no apparent trend throughout the study ***,it displayed greater variability at Martin Point compared to the other two colonies under *** the number of chicks in crèche of Adélie penguins showed a declining pattern,the average breeding performance was similar to that reported in gentoo penguin colonies,specifically,those undergoing a population increase(even in sympatric colonies facing similar local conditions).Consequently,it is plausible to assume a reduction of the over-winter survival as a likely cause of the declining trend observed,at least in the Stranger Point and Esperanza ***,we cannot rule out local effects during the breeding season affecting the Adélie population of Martin Point.

Drug-induced liver injury encompasses a spectrum of diseases ranging from mild biochemical abnormalities to acute liver failure; example of this scenery is hepatotoxicity caused by the first-line antituberculous drugs isoniazid, rifampin and pyrazinamide, which are basic for treatment of drug-sensible and drug-resistant tuberculosis. In the search for pharmacological alternatives to prevent liver damage, antitubercular drugs have been the subject of numerous studies and published reviews, a great majority of them carried out by Asian countries. At the same time, hepatoprotectors from plant source are now emerging as a possible alternative to counteract the toxic effects of these therapeutic agents. The present review aims to highlight the most recent studies on the subject, based information published in scientific databases such as Scopus and Pub Med.

Objective:To establish a polymerase chain reaction(PCR) technique based on cytochrome b {cytb) gene of mitochondria DNA(mtDNA) for blood meal ***:The PCR technique was established based on published information and validated using blood sample of laboratory animals of which their whole gene sequences are available in *** was next performed to compile gene sequences of different species of wild *** primers used were complementary to the conserved region of the cytb gene of vertebrate's mtDNA.A total of 100 blood samples,both from laboratory animals and wild rodents were collected und *** obtained unknown sequences were compared with those in the GenBank database using BLAST program to identify the vertebrate animal ***:Gene sequences of 11 species of wild animals caught in 9 localities of Peninsular Malaysia were compiled using the established PCR. The animals involved were Rattus(rattus) tanezumi,Rattus tiomanicus,Leopoldamys sabanus, Tupaia glis,Tupaia minor,Niviventor cremoriventor,Rhinosciurus laticaudatus,Calloseiurus caniseps,Sundamys muelleri,Rattus rajah,and Maxomys *** BLAST results confirmed the host with exact or nearly exact matches(>89%identity).Ten new gene sequences have been deposited in CenBank database since September ***:This study indicates that the PCR direct sequencing system using universal primer sets for vertebrate cytb gene is a promising technique for blood meal identification.

Objective:To identify the anti-inflammatory activity through two murine models and in the median Lethal Dose(LD_(50)) of three dietary supplements that contain Moussonia ***:The anti-inflammatory activity of three dietary supplements(Cicatrisan/Gastricus^(R),Gastinol^(R),and Gastrovita^(R)) EtOH extracts was evaluated by TPA and by carrageenan murine models;also,median Lethal Dose(LD_(50)) was *** was quantified by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography.β-sitosterol,stigmasterol and the mixture of ursolic and oleanolic acids were identified in all supplements by TLC;however,none of these dietary supplements contain ***:For the TPA model,Cicatrisan/Gastricus^(R)generated a notable effect with 38.24%*** in the carrageenan model,it also exhibited noteworthy anti-inflammatory activity of ear edema with 66.39%of paw edema inhibition at 150 mg/kg,followed by Gastinol^(R) and Gastrovita^(R) with 50%at 300 mg/***,LD_(50) was >2 g/kg for all supplements,when was administered intragastrically and Body Weight(BW) gain in mice was not altered after 14 ***:Of the three food supplements containing ***,only the EtOH extract from the Cicatrisan/Gastricus^(R)formulation(tablets) showed significant anti-inflammatory activity in both experimental models and the LD_(50) was > 2 g/kg.

The development of new functional alcoholic beverages to promote health benefits is a major challenge for current *** review presents the main applications of microorganisms with functional potential and resistant to the alcoholic environment as well as the characteristics that enable the use of alcoholic beverages as vehicles for probiotic *** our online search,it was possible to notice that the most prominent microorganisms with functional potential and that present alcohol resistance were Saccharomyces cerevisiae *** and water-kefir(composed of Saccharomyces sp.,Lactobacillus sp.,Leuconostoc sp.,Acetobacter sp.,Bifidobacterium sp.).Processing conditions,temperature,fermentation time,and raw materials used in the production of beverages are important parameters that are evaluated and are dependent on the alcohol concentration and cellular viability of the desired probiotic microorganism(s).Viability studies of probiotic microorganisms in vegetable matrices have been conducted for water-kefir and Saccharomyces *** was successfully incorporated into the developmental process of alcoholic beverages with alcohol contents ranging from 3.83 to 23%(v/v),whereas kefir beverage had an alcohol content ranging from 0.8 to 4.96%(v/v).Furthermore,to ensure the maintenance of probiotic viability in alcoholic matrices,the encapsulation technique can be used as an alternative to promote greater protection and viability of probiotics against adverse conditions.

Effect of Powder Particle Shape on the Properties of In Situ Ti–TiB Composite Materials Produced by Selective Laser Melting

This work studied the preparation of starting powder mixture influenced by milling time and its effect on the particle morphology （especially the shape） and, consequently, density and compression properties of in situ Ti-TiB composite materials produced by selective laser melting （SLM） technology. Starting powder composite system was prepared by mixing 95 wt% commercially pure titanium （CP-Ti） and 5 wt% titanium diboride （TiB2） powders and subsequently milled for two different times （i.e. 2 h and 4 h）. The milled powder mixtures after 2 h and 4 h show nearly spherical and irregular shape, respectively. Subsequently, the resultant Ti-5 wt% TiB2 powder mixtures were used for SLM processing. Scanning electron microscopy image of the SLM-processed Ti-TiB composite samples show needle-shape TiB phase distributed across the Ti matrix, which is the product of an in-situ chemical reaction between Ti and TiB2 during SLM. The Ti-TiB composite samples prepared from 2 h and 4 h milled Ti-TiB2 powders show different relative densities of 99.5% and 95.1%, respectively. Also, the compression properties such as ultimate strength and compression strain for the 99.5% dense composite samples is 1421 MPa and 17.8%, respectively, which are superior to those （883 MPa and 5.5%, respectively） for the 95.1% dense sample. The results indicate that once Ti and TiB2 powders are connected firmly to each other and powder mixture of nearly spherical shape is obtained, there is no additional benefit in increasing the milling time and, instead, it has a negative effect on the density （i.e. increasing porosity level） of the Ti-TiB composite materials and their mechanical properties.
