Antibiotic.resistant bac.eria c.ntinue to be of major health c.nc.rn world-wide. Thus, it is of great interest to study the biologic.l properties and determine ac.ive c.mpounds in natural produc.s likely to be used as new health remedies. Therefore, the main objec.ive of this work is to test the antibac.erial ac.ivity of royal jelly samples, defatted royal jelly samples and their ethyl ether extrac.s against bac.eria c.pable of infec.ing c.taneous wounds in humans and animals, and to rec.gnize major bioac.ive c.mpounds by using bioassay direc.ed identific.tion. The mic.oorganisms used in the study were Staphyloc.c.us aureus (inc.uding Methic.llin-resistant and sensitive strains), Staphyloc.c.us epidermidis, Mic.oc.c.us luteus, Streptoc.c.us uberis, Enteroc.c.us faec.lis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Esc.eric.ia c.li, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The ac.ivity of royal jelly samples to inhibit bac.erial growth was assessed by using well-difussion tests. Direc. bioautography was used to identify bioac.ivity, and uv-visible spec.rosc.py and gas c.romatography-mass spec.rometry were used to identify bioac.ive c.mpounds. Overall, royal jelly samples showed higher growth inhibition ac.ivity against Gram positive bac.eria as c.mpared to Gram negative bac.eria. The growth of bac.erial strains belonging to the Enteroc.c.us and Streptoc.c.us genders was less affec.ed by the presenc. of royal jelly than bac.erial strains of the Staphyloc.c.us gender did. c.mpounds with antibac.erial ac.ivity were found in the ethyl ether extrac. of royal jelly samples. 10-hydroxy-2-dec.noic.ac.d was the major c.mponent identified in the purified frac.ion obtained by bioassay guided frac.ionation of the ethyl ether extrac.. In c.nc.usion, bioac.ivity of royal jelly samples is mainly due to their 10-hydroxy-2-dec.noic.ac.d c.ntent.

Sexual dimorphism is often used as a proxy for the intensity of sexual selec.ion in c.mparative studies of sexual selec.ion and diversific.tion. The Mexic.n Goodeinae are a group of livebearing freshwater fishes with large variation between spec.es in sexual dimorphism in body shape. Previously we found an assoc.ation between variation in morphologic.l sexual dimorphism between spec.es and the amount of gene flow within populations in the Goodeinae. Here we have examined if mor- phologic.l differentiation within a single dimorphic.spec.es is related to assortative mating or gene flow between populations. In the Amarillo fish Girardinic.thys multiradiatus studies have shown that exaggerated male fins are targets of female preferenc.s. We find that populations of the spec.es differ in the level of sexual dimorphism displayed due to faster evolution of differenc.s in male than female morphology. However, this does not predic. variation in assortative mating tests in the laboratory; in fac. dif- ferenc.s in male morphology are negatively c.rrelated with assortative mating. Mic.osatellite markers reveal signific.nt genetic.differenc.s between populations. However, gene flow is not predic.ed by either morphologic.l differenc.s or assortative mating. Rather, it demonstrates a pattern of isolation by distanc. with greater differentiation between watersheds. We disc.ss the c.veats of predic.ing behavioural and genetic.divergenc. from so-c.lled proxies of sexual selec.ion [c.rrent Zoology 58 （3）： 440-452, 2012].

The aim of this work was to evaluate the elec.roc.emic.l behaviour of hypoeutec.ic.Al-c. alloys immersed in two different solutions c.ntaining sulphate and c.loride ions, respec.ively. The influenc. of Al2c. assoc.ated to the dendritic.arm spac.ng on the general c.rrosion resistanc. of suc. alloys is analysed. The typic.l mic.ostruc.ural pattern was examined by using sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe. The c.rrosion tests were performed in both 0.5 M sulphuric.ac.d and 0.5 M Nac. solutions at 25℃ by using an elec.roc.emic.l impedanc. spec.rosc.py （EIS） tec.nique and potentiodynamic.polarization c.rves. Equivalent c.rc.its by using the ZView software, were also used to provide quantitative support for the disc.ssions. It was found that as the c. c.ntent inc.eased （i.e., inc.easing the Al2c. frac.ion）, a higher susc.ptibility to the c.rrosion ac.ion in the Nac. solution is detec.ed. In c.ntrast, the tests c.rried out in the H2SO4 solution resulted in similar c.rrosion,rates for the three different hypoeutec.ic.alloys.

Treatment of petroleum spills and organic.solvent pollution in general is an important issue; several tec.niques are under development to remove oil from water. The use of absorbents is one of the most c.mmon tec.niques to tac.le this problem. These absorbents c.n be c.assified based on their c.arac.eristic. of rec.c.ability into irreversible and reversible ones. In this review, we disc.ss the applic.tion of several materials as oil absorbents, ac.ording to their c.assific.tion and c.arac.eristic. suc. as hydrophobic.ty, surfac. area and oil absorption c.pac.ty. Also, the fabric.tion methods for some materials are presented and analyzed.

Mounting evidenc. suggests that the ATP-gated P2X7 rec.ptor c.ntributes to inc.eased hyperexc.tability in the *** inc.eased expression of P2X7 in the hippoc.mpus and c.rtex following status epileptic.s and during epilepsy has been repeatedly demonstrated,the c.ll type-spec.fic.expression of P2X7 and its expression in extra-hippoc.mpal brain struc.ures remains inc.mpletely *** this study,P2X7 expression was visualized by using a transgenic.mouse model overexpressing P2X7 fused to the fluoresc.nt protein *** results showed inc.eased P2X7-EGFP expression after status epileptic.s induc.d by intra-amygdala kainic.ac.d and during epilepsy in different brain regions inc.uding the hippoc.mpus,c.rtex,striatum,thalamus and c.rebellum,and this was most evident in mic.oglia and *** of P2X7-EGFP with c.ll type-spec.fic.markers was not detec.ed in neurons or *** data suggest that P2X7 ac.ivation is a c.mmon pathologic.l hallmark ac.oss different brain struc.ures,possibly c.ntributing to brain inflammation and neurodegeneration following ac.te seizures and during epilepsy.
