International visibility of Armenian domestic journals:the role of scientific diaspora

Purpose:Nearly 122 scientific journals are currently being published in Armenia-of which only six are indexed by WoS and/or Scopus *** majority of the national journals are published in the Armenian language,solely possessing abstracts written in English,although there are also English-language and multi-language journals with articles not only in Armenian but also in other foreign *** aim of this article is to study the visibility of the(non-indexed)national Armenian journals in the WoS database through citation analy*** consideration of the existence of a relevant Armenian“diaspora”in the world,this article also attempts to estimate its impact in terms of citation ***/methodology/approach:For this end,we have identified citations to the national/domestic Armenian journals in the WoS database in comparison with the share of citations received from“diaspora”researchers(researchers of Armenian origin born in foreign countries and those originally from Armenia who have emigrated to foreign countries).Findings:Among the 116 Armenian domestic journals analyzed(not indexed by WoS),only 47 were found to be cited in *** these journals,almost 12%are citations by“diaspora”researchers,most of which concern Social Science and Humanities *** limitations:although the surnames of Armenians end with-i(y)an,sometimes,the Diaspora Armenians,surnames are changed or modified or they are not ending with-i(y)an,in this case we may fail to identify *** implications:This study can help to build new,more deep and comprehensive relations with scientific ***/value:This study offers a new understanding of multifaced research collaboration with scientific diasporas and their role in internationalization of domestic journals.

Tissue-source effect on mesenchymal stem cells as living biodrugs for heart failure:Systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),as living biodrugs,have entered advanced phases of clinical assessment for cardiac function restoration in patients with myocardial infarction and heart *** MSCs are available from diverse tissue sources,bone-marrow-derived MSCs(BM-MSCs)remain the most wellstudied cell type,besides umbilical-cord-derived MSCs(UC-MSCs).The latter offers advantages,including noninvasive availability without ethical *** To compare the safety and efficacy of BM-MSCs and UC-MSCs in terms of left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),6-min walking distance(6MWD),and major adverse cardiac events(MACEs).METHODS Five databases were systematically searched to identify randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Thirteen RCTs(693 patients)were included using predefined eligibility *** mean differences and odds ratio(OR)for the changes in the estimated treatment *** UC-MSCs significantly improved LVEF vs controls by 5.08%[95%confidence interval(CI):2.20%-7.95%]at 6 mo and 2.78%(95%CI:0.86%-4.70%)at 12 ***,no significant effect was observed for BM-MSCs vs *** significant changes were observed in the 6MWD with either of the two cell ***,no differences were observed for MACEs,except rehospitalization rates,which were lower only with BM-MSCs(odds ratio 0.48,95%CI:0.24-0.97)vs *** UC-MSCs significantly improved LVEF compared with *** advant-Safwan M et ***-source and MSCs as living biodrugs ageous characteristics position them as a promising alternative to MSC-based therapy.

Research and development are gradually becoming data-driven and the implementation of the FAIR Guidelines(that data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for scientific data administration and stewardship has the potential to remarkably enhance the framework for the reuse of research data. In this way, FAIR is aiding digital transformation. The ‘FAIRification’ of data increases the interoperability and(re)usability of data, so that new and robust analytical tools, such as machine learning(ML) models, can access the data to deduce meaningful insights, extract actionable information, and identify hidden patterns. This article aims to build a FAIR ML model pipeline using the generic FAIRification workflow to make the whole ML analytics process FAIR. Accordingly, FAIR input data was modelled using a FAIR ML model. The output data from the FAIR ML model was also made FAIR. For this, a hybrid hierarchical k-means (HHK) clustering ML algorithm was applied to group the data into homogeneous subgroups and ascertain the underlying structure of the data using a Nigerian-based FAIR dataset that contains data on economic factors, healthcare facilities, and coronavirus occurrences in all the 36 states of Nigeria. The model showed that research data and the ML pipeline can be FAIRified, shared, and reused by following the proposed FAIRification workflow and implementing technical architecture.

The COVID-19-Effect on Social Life of Dentist Working in Specialist Dental Centers for Adult: Sample al-Resafa Health Directorate

Background: While causing a financial and economic loss in many countries in a few months, COVID 19 was of great impact on public health. The Iraqi government took several measures since the first Iraqi case was discovered in February 2020. One of the fundamental measures to control this pandemic is social isolation, which depends greatly on people’s awareness to decrease the incidence of COVID-19. Objectives: To study the COVID-19-effect on dentists’ social life and their future plan, and to find the relation between that effect and some dentists’ demographic variables. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from 2nd January to 7th May 2021, by an electronic version of the questionnaire through Google form. With facilitating orders delivered to all the specialist dental centers for adults of al-Resafa health directorate;any dentists working in specialist dental centers for adults of al-Resafa health directorate, and accept to participate in this study. Results: A total of 10 specialist dental centers for adults of the al-Resafa health directorate represent 566/628 dentists enrolled in this study with a response rate of 88.99%. Most of them aged less than 30 years old (62.2%), female (60.6%), married status (50.4%), had 1 - 3 children (71.91%), Rotator (51.1%), with less than five years of experience (61.3%). Conclusion: COVID-19 affected so many aspects of health workers’ lives including dentists. About two-thirds of dentists had negative feelings, of which almost all had anxiety. Younger ages, females, married and having children are factors that contribute to the affection of dental social lives more than other categories.

Effect of thermal and chemical modifications on the mechanical and release properties of paracetamol tablet formulations containing corn, cassava and sweet potato starches as filler-binders

Objective: To investigate the effects of acetylation and pregelatinization of cassava and sweet potato starches on the mechanical and release properties of directly compressed paracetamol tablet formulations in comparison with official corn ***: The native starches were modified by acetylation and pregelatinization. The tablets were assessed using friability(Fr), crushing strength(Cs), disintegration time(Dt) and dissolution parameters. Results: Starch acetylation produced paracetamol tablets that were stronger and had the best balance of mechanical and disintegration properties, while pregelatinization produced tablets that were more friable but had a better overall strength in relation to disintegration than formulations made from natural starches. Correlations mainly existed between Dt and the dissolution parameters t80, t2 and k1 in the formulations. Conclusions: Modification of the experimental starches improved the mechanical and release properties of directly compressed paracetamol tablet formulations. Thus, they can be developed for use as pharmaceutical excipients in specific formulations.

The evolving dynamics of drug resistance due to tumor heterogeneity often creates impediments to traditional therapies making it a challenging issue for cancer *** cancer often faces challenges of current therapeutic interventions owing to its multiple complexities and high drug resistivity,for example against drugs like trastuzumab and *** resistance in the majority of breast cancer is often aided by the overtly expressed P-glycoprotein(P-gp)that guides in the rapid drug efflux of chemotherapy *** continuous endeavors and ground-breaking achievements in the pursuit of finding better cancer therapeutic avenues,drug resistance is still a menace to hold *** newer therapeutic approaches,the application of phytonutrients such as alkaloids to suppress P-gp activity in drug-resistant cancers has found an exciting niche in the arena of alternative cancer *** this work,we would like to present a black pepper alkaloid derivative known as Bio Perine-loaded chitosan(CS)-polyethylene glycol(PEG)coated polylactic acid(PLA)hybrid polymeric nanoparticle to improve the bioavailability of Bio Perine and its therapeutic efficacy in suppressing P-gp expression in MDA-MB 453 breast cancer cell *** findings revealed that the CS-PEG-Bio PerinePLA nanoparticles demonstrated a smooth spherical morphology with an average size of316 nm,with improved aqueous solubility,and provided sustained Bio Perine *** nanoparticles also enhanced in vitro cytotoxicity and downregulation of P-gp expression in MDA-MB 453 cells compared to the commercial inhibitor verapamil hydrochloride,thus promising a piece of exciting evidence for the development of Bio Perine based nano-drug delivery system in combination with traditional therapies as a crucial approach to tackling multi-drug resistance in cancers.

Significance of platelet count in children admitted with bronchiolitis

AIM To determine the true prevalence of thrombocytosis in children less than 2 years of age with bronchiolitis,its association with risk factors,disease severity and thromboembolic *** A retrospective observational medical chart review of 305 infants aged two years or less hospitalized for *** outcomes included disease severity,duration of hospital stay,admission to pediatric intensive care unit,or *** also included complications of thrombocytosis,including thromboembolic complications such as cerebrovascular accident,acute coronary syndrome,deep venous thrombosis,pulmonary embolus,mesenteric thrombosis and arterial thrombosis and also hemorrhagic complications such as bleeding(spontaneous hemorrhage in the skin,mucous membranes,gastrointestinal,respiratory,or genitourinary tracts).RESULTS The median age was 4.7 mo and 179 were males(59%).Respiratory syncytial virus was isolated in 268(84%),adenovirus in 23(7%) and influenza virus A or B in 13(4%).Thrombocytosis(platelet count > 500 × 109/L) occurred in 88(29%;95%CI:24%-34%),more commonly in younger infants with the platelet count declining with *** was no significant association with the duration of illness,temperature on admission,white blood cell count,serum C-reactive protein concentration,length of hospital stay or admission to the intensive care *** death,thrombotic or hemorrhagic events *** Thrombocytosis is common in children under two years of age admitted with *** is not associated with disease severity or thromboembolic complications.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy in the Middle East: Achieving optimal results through specialization and standardization

Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy is a challenging surgical intervention that remains the cornerstone in the treatment of localized peri-ampullary pathologies. The concept of treatment standardization has been well-established in many high-volume centers in the world. Here, we present our experience in pancreaticoduodenectomy from 1994 to 2015. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of the medical charts of patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy at our institution. Data was entered to SPSS statistical software and analyzed. The Mann-Whitney U and Fisher’s exact tests were used to report statistical differences between groups. Results: Of the 370 patients who underwent pacreaticoduodenectomy, 300 were analyzed. The 1-, 3-, 5- and 10-year survival rates were 85%, 35%, 15%, and 7%, respectively with a 30-day mortality rate of 5.0%(15 patients). The median age of the patients was 61 (13-84) years, with 193 (64.3%) males and 107 (35.7%) females. The median operative time was 300 (130-570) min. The median postoperative length of hospital stay was 12 (5-76) days. Thirty-two patients required re-laparotomies;10 for pancreatic leak, 7 for biliary leak and 15 for control of bleeding. Seventy-five (25.0%) patients developed pancreatic fistulae. Delayed gastric emptying was present in 31 (10.3%) patients. A significant improvement in surgical outcome was observed in cases done after 2008 which indicates the important role of specialized team in surgical management. Conclusions: The number of patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy has been increasing annually over the past twenty-two years in our institution with results comparable to published series from high-volume centers. Through standardization of surgical techniques and perioperative management carried out by a specialist team, our results continue to improve despite the increasing complexity of cases referred to our unit.

Photo-Degradation of Reactive Yellow 14 Dye (A Textile Dye) Employing ZnO as Photocatalyst

In this paper, the reactive yellow 14 dye solution was removed from aqueous solution in the presence of commercial ZnO (mean crystallite size is 44.116 nm) under the UV A light. The decolourization of dye process was obeyed to pseudo-first orderkinetics. The optimum conditions of decolourization for this dye such as: initial dye concentration 50 mg/L, best dose of ZnO 350 mg/100mL and initial pH of aqueous solution of dye 6.75 were studied. Activation energies for dye were found to be 27.244 kJmol-1. The photoreaction process was observed to be endothermic reaction and less randomness.
