align="justify"> Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic emerged in December 2019 and spread worldwide. Since workplaces are high-risk location for occupational exposure, understanding of the dynamics of COVID-19 clusters in occupational settings helps reduce the transmission of infectious disease in workplaces. This study presents an overview of the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 workplace clusters, preventive strategies adopted and outbreak responses undertaken in Muscat governorate. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study on the epidemiological characteristics of cases and distribution of workplace-related clusters of COVID-19 in Muscat Governorate in Oman. Results: A total of 36,798 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Muscat from 24th February to 31st July 2020 in which 40.5% was belonging to clusters. Out of them 61% were Workplace-Dormitory clusters, predominantly expatriates. 78.6% of employees were symptomatic at time of examination. Fever and cough were the two most common symptoms reported in workplace related clusters. The number of affected employees ranged from 2 to 358 per cluster. Construction, retail, food, beverages, services, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas and transportation were identified as most at risk settings. Within the cases in workplace-related clusters, there was significant higher prevalence of diabetes, hypertension and obesity among females compared to males as also Omani nationals compared to expatriates and smoking among expatriate males compared to Omani males. In conclusion, understanding the epidemiological characteristics of the affected cases in organization setting will assist the policymakers to understand patterns of epidemiological spread and plan for robust interventions. <

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared as pandemic by WHO by March 11th. First case reported in Oman was on 24th February 2020 and later the country went through stages of epidemic progression. This study describes the sociodemographic and epidemiological characteristics of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Muscat governorate and related outcomes. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory analysis of all lab confirmed COVID 19 cases that were reported from 1st February to 31st May 2020. Data for the study was primarily extracted from notifications system established for surveillance (Tarassud). Secondary data sources were, contact listings and hospital medical records. Results: 11,648 initial cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections were included. The mean age was 35 years, 84.7% (N = 9862) were males, 25.9% (N = 3017) were Omanis, and 74.1% (N = 8631) were expatriates of which Indian origin were the majority (37%). Fever and cough were the most common presentations (46.3% and 29.5% respectively). Diabetes and hypertension were the most common comorbidities (4.9% and 4.6% respectively). Hospital admission was required for 7% (N = 811) of the total reported cases, out of them 171 cases (21%) were admitted to ICU, where 107 (13.2%) were ventilated. The case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.9%. 158 clusters containing 2949 contacts were identified from case records and categorised into 3 groups based on their exposure settings. The incubation period measured was 8 days (IQR 4.0 - 15.0) for workplace, 8 days (IQR 4 - 17) for dormitory and 4 days (IQR 2.0 - 7.0) for family groups. The secondary attack rate (SAR) estimated was 41.6% (95% CI: 0.34 - 0.48), 52% (95% CI: 0.40 - 0.63) and 33% (95% CI: 0.27 - 0.38) for workplace, dormitory and family groups, respectively. Comparison of the effect of carbon,halloysite and titania nanotubes on the mechanical and thermal properties of LDPE based nanocomposite films

In this study, titania nanotubes （TNTs） were prepared by hydrothermal method with the aim to compare the properties of these one-dimensional tubular nanostructures＇ reinforced nanocomposites with the carbon and halloysite nanotubes＇（CNTs and HNTs, respectively） reinforced nanocomposites. Low density polyethylene （LDPE） was used as the matrix material. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized and compared by means of their morphological, mechanical and thermal properties. SEM results showed enhanced interracial interaction and better dispersion of TNTs and HNTs into LDPE with the incorporation of a MAPE compatibilizer, however, these interactions seem to be absent between CNTs and LDPE, and the CNTs remained agglomerated. Contact angle measurements revealed that CNT filled nanocomposites are more hydrophilic than HNT composites, and less than TNT composites. CNTs provided better tensile strength and Young＇s modulus than HNT and TNT nanocomposites, a 42% increase in tensile strength and Young＇s modulus is achieved compared to LDPE. Tear strength improvement was noticed in the TNT composites with a value of 35.4 N. mm -1, compared to CNT composites with a value of 25.5 *** 1 -s- 1. all the prepared nanocomposites are more thermally stable than neat LDPE and the best improvement in thermal stability was observed for CNT reinforced nanocomposites. CNTs depicted the best improvement in tensile and thermal properties and the MAPE compatibilizer effective- ness regarding morphological, mechanical and thermal properties was only observed for TNT and HNT systems.

Evaluation of groundwater quality in the Dibdibba aquifer using hydrogeochemical and isotope techniques(Basrah Province,Iraq)

The Dibdibba aquifer is considered to be the main source in the al-Zubair area because agriculture depends on it to provide grazing water in the *** groundwater well samples were collected from the shallow Dibdibba Aquifer in Basra Province,southern Iraq,through the dry and wet period for 37 water samples were collected,to investigate the water quality deterioration,which is a hydrogeochemical modeling study where used to represent the groundwater mixing *** physicochemical parameter results show the spatial and temporal variations along the groundwater flow path.A Durov diagram of the studied samples shows water type Na-SO_(4),which is represented by mixing waters that may be affected by *** geochemical model ratio results of the groundwater well samples have shown high mixing ratios in the east and southeast regions of the study *** stable isotope composition of groundwater samples indicated that the recharge source of the Dibdibba aquifer is meteoric water influenced by vapor water from the Arabian *** stable isotope results have shown that the enrichment ofδO values is relatively linked with high salinity concentration and indicated the mixing between the upper unconfined and the lower confined,especially in the eastern and southern parts of the study *** findings of geochemical modeling and isotopes indicated an increasing groundwater quality ***,we recommended avoiding these areas for intensive extraction of groundwater.

Numerical study of homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions on stagnation point flow of ferrofluid with non-linear slip condition

This study deals with the stagnation point flow of ferrofluid over a flat plate with non-linear slip boundary condition in the presence of homogeneous-heterogeneous *** kinds of ferroparticles,namely,magnetite(Fe_3O_4),cobalt ferrite(CoFe_2O_4) and manganese zinc ferrite(Mn-ZnFe_2O_4) are taken into account with water and kerosene as conventional base *** developed model of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in boundary layer flow with equal and unequal diffusivities for reactant and autocatalysis is *** governing partial differential equations are converted into system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by mean of similarity *** ordinary differential equations are integrated numerically using shooting *** effects of pertinent parameters on velocity and concentration profiles are presented graphically and *** found that in the presence of Fe_3O_4-kerosene and CoFe_2O_4-kerosene,velocity profiles increase for large values of α and β whereas there is a decrement in concentration profiles with increasing values of if and K_***,the comparison between non-magnetic(A1_2O_3) and magnetic Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles is given in tabular form.

Impact of pediatric traumatic brain injury on hippocampal neurogenesis

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the pediatric *** advances in medical care,the mortality rate of pediatric TBI has ***,more children and adolescents are living with TBI-related cognitive and emotional impairments,which negatively affects the quality of their *** hippocampal neurogenesis plays an important role in cognition and mood *** in adult hippocampal neurogenesis are associated with a variety of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases,including *** endogenous hippocampal neurogenesis after TBI merits significant ***,TBI affects the function of neural stem/progenitor cells in the dentate gyrus of hippocampus,which results in aberrant migration and impaired dendrite development of adult-born ***,a better understanding of adult hippocampal neurogenesis after TBI can facilitate a more successful neuro-restoration of damage in immature *** injuries,such as neuroinflammation and oxidative stress,exert a significant impact on hippocampal ***,a variety of therapeutic approaches have been proposed for ameliorating secondary TBI *** this review,we discuss the uniqueness of pediatric TBI,adult hippocampal neurogenesis after pediatric TBI,and current efforts that promote neuroprotection to the developing brains,which can be leveraged to facilitate neuroregeneration.

An Efficient Maple Program for Calculating Adomian Polynomials

The immense quest for proficient numerical schemes for the solution of mathematical models featuring nonlinear differential equations led to the realization of the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) in the 80th. Undoubtedly, the solution of nonlinear differential equations using ADM is presided over by the acquisition of Adomian polynomials, which are not always easy to find. Thus, the present study proposes easy-to-implement Maple programs for the computation of Adomian polynomials. In fact, the proposed algorithms performed remarkably on several test functions, consisting of one- and multi-variable nonlinearities. Moreover, the introduced programs are advantageous in terms of simplicity;coupled with the requirement of less computational time in comparison with what is known in the literature.

Evaluation of leptin,interleukin-1 beta and tumor necrosis factor alpha in serum of malaria patients as prognostic markers of treatment outcome

Objective:To analyze scrum leptin levels in patients with malaria falciparum and compare them with healthy controls and correlate with development and outcome of malaria ***:Sixty cases of malaria falciparum were included in this study as *** healthy individuals of comparable age,racial and body mass index were taken as *** patients were diagnosed by clinical picture and the presence of malaria parasites in blood *** of liver function test,kidney function test,complete blood count,fasting blood sugar,fasting serum insulin,pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFα)and interleukin 1(IL1),estimation of morning serum leptin and calculation of body mass index(kg/m^2)were done in both groups on the day of admission,on discharge and 7 d after ***:At admission,leptin levels were significantly higher in patients group than in control while lasting serum insulin levels were not significantly different between the two *** were significant increases as regard to TNFαand IL1 in malaria *** differences were observed between the control and the patient group for leptin,TNFαand IL1 at the time of admission and *** discharge for 7 d.a significant decline in scrum leptin levels,TNFαand IL1 in the patients group was observed as compared with time of admission and time of discharge,a positive correlation between serum leptin levels and TNFαand ***:Leptin hormone level might play an important role in development and outcome of malaria infection.

Information Streams in Health Facilities: The Case of Uganda

With the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of digitally-recorded and connected health data poses a challenge for analysing the situation. Virus outbreaks, such as the current pandemic, allow for the optimisation and reuse of data, which can be beneficial in managing future outbreaks. However, there is a general lack of knowledge about the actual flow of information in health facilities, which is also the case in Uganda. In Uganda, where this case study was conducted, there is no comprehensive knowledge about what type of data is collected or how it is collected along the journey of a patient through a health facility. This study investigates information flows of clinical patient data in health facilities in Uganda. The study found that almost all health facilities in Uganda store patient information in paper files on shelves. Hospitals in Uganda are provided with paper tools, such as reporting forms, registers and manuals, in which district data is collected as aggregate data and submitted in the form of digital reports to the Ministry of Health Resource Center. These reporting forms are not digitised and, thus, not machine-actionable. Hence, it is not easy for health facilities, researchers, and others to find and access patient and research data. It is also not easy to reuse and connect this data with other digital health data worldwide, leading to the incorrect conclusion that there is less health data in Uganda. The a FAIR architecture has the potential to solve such problems and facilitate the transition from paper to digital records in the Uganda health system.
