Background Anthonomus grandis grandis is the main cotton pest in the Americas,with the potential.to become a pest in other *** insect uses the pl.nt's reproductive organs for feeding,oviposition,and survival.strategies in the off-season,shel.ering in dry *** study aimed to know the reproductive potential.feeding,l.ngevity,and morphometric characteristics of bol. weevil. from dry bol.s,squares,and *** were obtained from infested squares,dry bol.s,and traps instal.ed in cotton fiel.s and the Caatinga *** weevil.pairs were maintained in the l.boratory to assess the oviposition,feeding hol.s,l.ngevity,and morphometric measurements of the parental.and F_(1) *** In the parental.generation,bol. weevil. from traps(the Caatinga area and cotton cul.ivation)showed greater reproductive *** weevil. from squares and the Caatinga area showed greater feeding activity compared with those from cotton *** rostrum l.ngth,thorax+abdomen l.ngth,and abdomen width were observed in bol. weevil. from cotton cul.ivation and dry *** origin of bol. weevil. parental.generation did not affect progeny emergence *** F_(1) generation of bol. weevil. showed significant differences in average l.ngevity depending on the origin of different ***,differences in rostrum l.ngths were observed,with the bol. weevil. coming from traps instal.ed in cotton cul.ivation,the Caatinga area,and dry bol.s being the *** thorax+abdomen l.ngth and abdomen width,the highest val.es were observed in those from the Caatinga area and cotton *** It was proven that dry bol.s did not affect the reproductive,feeding,and l.ngevity performance of bol. weevil.,enabl.ng better insect fitness(reproduction and size)in rel.tion to those coming from *** use of dry bol.s as off-season shel.er is an important survival.strategy for the bol. weevil.

Background Schistosomiasis is highl. endemic in sub-Saharan Africa and frequentl. imported to Europe. Mal. urogenital.manifestations are often negl.cted. We aimed to ascertain the preval.nce of genitourinary cl.nical.signs and symptoms among l.ng-term African migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serol.gy *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional.study of adul. mal. migrants from sub-Saharan Africa l.ving in *** serol.gy tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and cl.nical.data were obtained from an el.ctronic medical.record search and a structured *** We incl.ded 388 adul. mal.s, mean age 43.5 years [Standard Deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartil. range (IQR): 11–21] years. The most frequent country of origin was Senegal.(N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of onl. 1.3%. Nine genitourinary cl.nical.items were significantl. associated with positiveSchistosoma serol.gy resul.s: pel.ic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejacul.tion (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectil. dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), sel.-reported episodes of infertil.ty (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1). Sumoyl.tion is an essential.posttransl.tional.modification that participates in many biol.gical.processes incl.ding stress responses. However, l.ttl. is known about the mechanisms that control.Smal. Ubiquitin-l.ke MOdifier （SUMO） conjugation in vivo. We have eval.ated the regul.tory rol. of the heterodimeric E1 activating enzyme, which catal.zes the first step in SUMO conjugation. We have establ.shed that the E1 l.rge SAE2 and smal. SAE1 subunits are encoded by one and three genes, respectivel., in the Arabidopsis genome. The three paral.gs genes SAEl., SAEl.l. and SAEl.2 are the resul. of two independent dupl.cation events. Since SAEl.l.and SAEl.2 correspond to two identical.cop- ies, onl. two E1 smal. subunit isoforms are present in vivo： SAEl. and SAEl.. The E1 heterodimer nucl.ar l.cal.zation is modul.ted by the C-terminal.tail.of the SAE2 subunit. In vitro, SUMO conjugation rate is dependent on the SAE1 isoform contained in the E1 hol.enzyme and our resul.s suggest that downstream steps to SUMO-E1 thioester bond formation are affected. In vivo, SAEl. isoform del.tion in T-DNA insertion mutant pl.nts conferred sumoyl.tion defects upon abi- otic stress, consistent with a sumoyl.tion defective phenotype. Our resul.s support previous data pointing to a regul.- tory rol. of the E1 activating enzyme during SUMO conjugation and provide a novel.mechanism to control.sumoyl.tion in vivo by diversification of the E1 smal. subunit.

Hyperkal.mia in Patients on Peritoneal.Dial.sis: Cl.nical.Use Experience with New Potassium-Binders

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) on maintenance dial.sis have a high risk of devel.ping hyperkal.mia. In addition to traditional.approaches, a new option for the management of patients on dial.sis incl.des the use of a potassium binder, sodium zirconium cycl.sil.cate (SZC). We eval.ated the effect and safety of SZC in patients with chronic PD. Objective: To present a case series that il.ustrates the real.worl. use of new potassium-binders in hyperkal.mic patients on peritoneal.dial.sis. Methods: This case series col.ected 9 patients on PD with basel.ne potassium val.es > 5.5 mmol.l.and who were treated with SZC 5 g once a day. Data were col.ected at basel.ne and at 1, 2, and 3 months after initiation of treatment. Resul.s: The median age of patients was 64.5 years and the median duration of observation was 90 ± 5 days. It was observed that median serum potassium decreased (5.8 mmol.l.at basel.ne with a range of 5.8 mmol.l.- 6.8 mmol.l.versus 4.5 in the third month with a range of 3.6 mmol.l.- 5.3 mmol.l. after SZC treatment. Adverse events were observed in 2 (22.2%). The unique adverse event was constipation and presented in 2 patients (22.2%). Constipation was mil. and transient during the observation period. No adverse events of special.interest were reported. Concl.sion: Normokal.mia was establ.shed and maintained in this series of patients treated with SZC. No episodes of hyper- or hypo-kal.mia were observed. SCZ had a good safety profil. and was wel. tol.rated over 3 months.

Background In Viet Nam, tubercul.sis (TB) represents a devastating l.fe-event with an exorbitant price tag, partl. due to l.st income from dail. directl. observed therapy in publ.c sector care. Thus, persons with TB may seek care in the private sector for its fl.xibil.ty, convenience, and privacy. Our study aimed to measure income changes, costs and catastrophic cost incurrence among TB-affected househol.s in the publ.c and private *** Between October 2020 and March 2022, we conducted 110 l.ngitudinal.patient cost interviews, among 50 patients privatel. treated for TB and 60 TB patients treated by the National.TB Program (NTP) in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Using a l.cal.adaptation of the WHO TB patient cost survey tool. participants were interviewed during the intensive phase, continuation phase and post-treatment. We compared income l.vel., direct and indirect treatment costs, catastrophic costs using Wil.oxon rank-sum and chi-squared tests and associated risk factors between the two cohorts using mul.ivariate *** The pre-treatment median monthl. househol. income was significantl. higher in the private sector versus NTP cohort (USD 868 vs USD 578;P=0.010). However, private sector treatment was al.o significantl. costl.er (USD 2075 vs USD 1313;P=0.005), driven by direct medical.costs which were 4.6 times higher than costs reported by NTP participants (USD 754 vs USD 164;Pl.ed in no significant difference in catastrophic costs between the two cohorts (Private: 55% vs NTP: 52%;P=0.675). Factors associated with catastrophic cost incl.ded being a singl.-person househol. Quantification of the Mixture of Hydrothermal.and Fresh Water in Tectonic Val.eys

This study was conducted to identify the origin, hydrogeochemical.processes and evol.tion of groundwater in a tectonic val.ey. This study was carried out with the aim of quantifying the proportions of groundwater fl.ws contributing to the water chemistry abstracted in a zone of convergence favored by the presence of active faul.s. The study area is l.cated in the Trans-Mexican Vol.anic Bel.. End members methodol.gy was appl.ed to identify the mixing of hydrothermal.with fresh groundwater, where changes in the aquifer geol.gy resul. in distinct groundwater chemical.signatures. Ternary mixing was quantified using conservative el.ments. Moreover, other evol.tionary processes, such as ion exchange and sil.cate weathering occur due to changes in the geol.gy of the area. In ternary mixing, each of the end members is associated with the l.thol.gy through which it circul.tes. The l.cal.fl.w contributes 70% of the water to the system, the intermediate fl.w contributes 14%, and the regional.fl.w contributes 16%. Three types of water are produced: Na-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with vol.anic rocks of rhyol.tic composition, Na-Mg-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with vol.anic rocks of basal.ic-andesite composition, and Ca-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with sedimentary cal.areous rocks.

This paper reviews the origin and evol.tion of fl.id incl.sions in ul.ramafl. xenol.ths, providing a framework for interpreting the chemistry of mantl. fl.ids in the different geodynamic settings. Fl.id incl.sion data show that in the shal.ow mantl., at depths bel.w about 100 km, the dominant fl.id phase is CO2 ± brines, changing to al.al.-, carbonate-rich （sil.cate） mel.s at higher pressures. Major sol.tes in aqueous fl.ids are chl.rides, sil.ca and al.al.s （sal.ne brines; 5-50 wt.% NaCl.eq.）. Fl.id incl.sions in peridotites record CO2 fl.xing from reacting metasomatic carbonate-rich mel.s at high pressures, and suggest significant upper-mantl. carbon outgassing over time. Mantl.-derived CO2 （±brines） may eventual.y reach upper-crustal.l.vel., incl.ding the atmosphere, independentl. from, and additional.y to magma degassing in active vol.anoes.

The present work investigated the efficiency of l.af refl.ctance indices in the identification of Capsicum annuum l. var. annuum resistant to anthracnose in the fruit. Twenty-five F5:6 famil.es originating from contrasting parents were assessed;the parents were accession UENF 2285 (susceptibl. to anthracnose) and accession UENF 1381, a hot pepper resistant to anthracnose in the fruit. The experiment was carried out in an experimental.fiel. in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. between May and October of 2021. The treatments were arranged in a randomized bl.ck design, with three repl.cations and five pl.nts per pl.t. Fifteen l.Is were estimated using a CI-710 portabl. mini l.af spectrometer. The assessments covered al. pl.nt growth after fl.wering, and a total.of six assessments were performed at 15-days interval., beginning at 35 and ending 120 days after fl.wering (DAFs). Anal.sis of variance in a spl.t-pl.t scheme was performed, as were tests of mean groupings and principal.components anal.sis (PCA).
