Evaluation of Viability of Lactobacillus fermentum CECT 5716 in Gelatin and Gastroresistant Capsules

Different studies have attributed health benefits to Lactobacillus fermentum CECT 5716. However, the main problem associated with probiotics is their low resistance to environmental and technological factors. In this sense, capsules can provide a shell protection and a dosage form that is easy to swallow. For these reasons, the aim of this study was to evaluate the survival of Lactobacillusfermentum CECT 5716 in gelatin and gastro-resistant capsules during a period of 12 months at RT （room temperature） and 4 ℃. The number of encapsulated cells remained relatively constant after six months of storage, since there were no statistically significant differences compared to the initial time （p 〉 0.05）. Moreover, capsules are able to maintain a therapeutic level of bacteria （109 CFU/capsule） during the total period of storage. Gelatin capsules seem to protect worse probiotic than gastro-resistant （HPMC （hydroxy propyi methyl cellulose）） capsules. Furthermore, capsules stored at 4 ℃ show a low level of viability. These results suggest that HPMC capsules are an optimal dosage form for L. fermentum CECT 5716 and that the recommended condition of storage is room temperature rather than 4 ℃.

Mosquitoes are an interesting topic due to their medical importance, as they play an active role in the transmission of many pathogens and parasites, acting as vectors for various pathologies that are deadly to humans, such as dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, West Nile virus, encephalitis and malaria, among many others that are less common. In terms of morbidity and mortality caused by vector-borne diseases, mosquitoes are the most dangerous animals for humanity and, although they also play a role in the ecosystem as a food source for other organisms, their importance for public health cannot be overlooked. As highly efficient vectors, they put more than three billion people at risk, mainly in tropical and subtropical regions as well as in Europe, since heat waves and flooding are becoming more frequent and severe, and summers are getting longer and warmer, accelerating mosquito development, biting rates, and the incubation of the pathogens within their bodies. Female mosquitoes bite to acquire proteins for the development of their ovaries and eggs and, in the process, acquire pathogens and/or parasites from one vertebrate host and transmit them to another, usually after a short period of replication. Three of their four life stages are lived in still freshwater, so it is crucial to understand their range of action when they reach adulthood and leave the water, in order to plan and implement local prevention measures. A set of georeferenced abundance data collected in mainland Portugal over seven years was linked to cartographed water bodies in a geographic information system to estimate the distances at which Culex pipiens s.l. had a significant presence, with criteria based on the size of the catches. The result allows for an estimate of the fly range of those mosquitoes, which can be used to focus countermeasures.

针对几何失谐整体叶盘结构动力学特性评估问题，开展基于先进光学几何测量技术的高保真整体叶盘数字孪生建模、高性能结构动力学仿真分析和试验验证研究。首先，采用三维结构蓝光扫描系统测取叶片几何型面的高分辨率点云模型，将其直接关联至谐调整体叶盘设计有限元模型，通过网格自适应变形技术实现高保真整体叶盘数字孪生模型的高效构建。其次，整体叶盘数字孪生高性能动力学仿真分析方法立足于大规模几何失谐整体叶盘模型的新型动力学减缩技术，其核心是利用各几何失谐单扇区结构的循环对称模态振型来构建数字孪生整盘模型的减缩模态基底，以减少计算内存和时长的消耗。试验结果表明，针对实体整体叶盘模拟件结构构建的高保真数字孪生模型既能有效地捕获叶片微小几何失谐对其“扇区”频率和振型的影响，也能较为准确地预测旋转整体叶盘在发动机阶次激励作用下的失谐振动响应特性。

A Comparison of Airborne Formaldehyde Field Measurements Collected in an Anatomic Pathology Laboratory

Environmental monitoring of airborne formaldehyde (FA) using sensitive methodologies is fundamental to prevent health risks. The objective of this study was to compare three different FA monitoring methods during the daily activities of an anatomic pathology laboratory. Daily eight-hour measurements deriving from Radiello® passive diffusive samplers (PDS), NEMo XT continuous optical sensor (COS), and multi-gas 1512 photoacoustic monitor (MPM) were simultaneously compared over a period of 14 working days. Given the different daily distributions of the measurements performed by the three devices, all measurements were time-aligned for comparison purposes. The 95% limit of agreement (LOA) method was applied to estimate the degree of concordance of each device with respect to the others. Formaldehyde arithmetic mean measured using PDS was 32.6 ± 10.4 ppb (range: 19.8 - 62.7). The simultaneous measures performed by COS and MPM were respectively 42.4 ± 44.8 ppb (range: 7.0 - 175.0) and 189.0 ± 163.7 ppb (range: 40.0 - 2895.4). The MPM geometric mean (171.3 ppb) was approximately five times higher than those derived from COS (32.3 ppb) and PDS (31.4 ppb). The results of the LOA method applied to log-transformed FA data showed the same systematic discrepancies between MPM and the other two devices. A good agreement between PDS and COS could lead to a tailored approach according to the individual specificity of these techniques. This tool may be useful for accurately assessing the risk of FA exposure among healthcare workers. However, the limited specificity of the MPM does not support its use as a monitoring method for FA in the workplace.

The last decades have represented an important season in the re-conceptualization of brain plasticity,especially in extending the concept at events occurring beyond the developmental stage and in demonstrating the profound impact of these changes on so-called spontaneous recovery after central nervous system(CNS)*** study of the cellular,molecular,functional and structural mechanisms involved in brain plasticity has clearly emphasized the multitude of players engaged in this phenomenon,leading to the conceptualization that non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal mechanisms intervene in these changes and orchestrate some of the responses observed(Werner and Stevens,2015).Among the different non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal substrates of injury-induced plasticity is becoming increasingly recognized that microglia drive a series of intrinsic CNS responses after damage(Sandvig et al.,2018;Bisicchia et al.,2019).

Contribution of the ear and the flag leaf to grainfilling in durum wheat inferred from the carbon isotope signature: Genotypic and growing conditions effects

The ear, together with the flag leaf, is believed to play a major role as a source of assimilates during grain filling in C3cereals. However, the intrusive nature of most of the available methodologies prevents reaching conclusive results in this regard. This study compares the carbon isotope composition（d13C） in its natural abundance in the water‐soluble fractions of the flag leaf blade and the ear with the d13C of mature kernels to assess the relative contribution of both organs to grain filling in durum wheat（Triticum turgidum L. ***）. The relative contribution of the ear was higher in landraces compared to modern cultivars, as well as in response to nitrogen fertilization and water stress. Such genotypic and environmentally driven differences were associated with changes in harvest index（HI）, with the relative contribution of the ear being negatively associated with HI. In the case of the genotypic differences, the lower relative contribution of the ear in modern cultivars compared with landraces is probably associated with the appearance in the former of a certain amount of source limitation driven by a higher HI. In fact, the relative contribution of the ear was far more responsive to changes in HI in modern cultivars compared with landraces.
