AiM:to evaluate the effect of β-blockade on angi.tensins in the splanchnic and peripheral circulation of cirrhotic patients and also to compare hemodynamic parameters during liver transplantation according to propranolol pre-treatment or not. MEtHODS:Patients were allocated i.to two groups:outpatients with advanced liver disease(LD) and during liver transplantation(Lt). Both groups were subdivided according to treatment with propranolol or not. Plasma was collected through peripheral venipuncture to determine plasma renin activity(PRA),Angi.tensin(Ang) Ⅰ,Ang Ⅱ,and Ang-(1-7) levels by radioimmunoassay in LD group. During liver transplantation,hemodynamic parameters were determined and blood samples were obtained from the portal vein to measure renin angi.tensin system(RAS) ***:PRA,Ang Ⅰ,Ang Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) were signifi cantly lower in the portal vein and periphery in all subgroups treated with propranolol as compared to non-treated. the relationships between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅰ levels and between Ang Ⅱ and Ang Ⅰ were significantly increased in LD group receiving propranolol. the ratio between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅱ remained unchanged in splanchnic and peripheral circulation in patients under β-blockade,whereas the relationship between Ang Ⅱ and Ang Ⅰ was significantly increased in splanchnic circulation of Lt patients treated with propranolol. During liver transplantation,cardiac output and index as well systemic vascular resi.tance and index were reduced in propranolol-treated subgroup. CONCLUSiON:in LD group,propranolol treatment reduced RAS medi.tors,but did not change the ratio between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅱ in splanchnic and peripheral circulation. Furthermore,the modification of hemodynamic parameters in propranolol treated patients was not associ.ted with changes in the angi.tensin ratio.

3D City Models as a Visual Support tool for the Analysis of Buildings Seismic Vulnerability: the Case of Lisbon

3D city models associ.te a database of a city to a rigorous geospatial representation that is close to the visible reality by combining appearance, geometry, and semantics. As such, these models may include tools that convey attribute analysis, not only at the stati.tical level but also in terms of visual appearance of the objects, thus allowing the generation of new knowledge about a phenomenon or its effects. Lisbon is a city with a moderate level of seismic risk, and has been hit in the past by strong earthquakes. Several seismic vulnerability studies of buildings have been carried out in Lisbon. these studies generate different scenarios that consider the magnitude and source location of potential earthquakes. the results of these studies were presented as maps obtained from crossing information contained in 2D layers and presented in a GiS environment. in the present study a seismic vulnerability assessment of Lisbon's buildings held in 2D is extended to the third dimension, which refines the resolution and the set of parameters and explores the gains of spatial analysis in 3D representations. the numerous parameters that contribute to assess seismic vulnerability of buildings may be analyzed individually or simultaneously as well as in multiple seismic scenarios. Although covering all residential buildings in Lisbon, the application of the 3Dcity model is demonstrated with more detail in three pilot areas.

trong>Background:trong> The increasing life expectancy of people worldwide will signify that oncologists everywhere will be faced with many difficult decisions regarding treatment options in the elderly population with cancer. These patients carry specific challenges that should be discussed. Aim: To report the clinical case of an elderly patient with a metastatic colorectal cancer with a sustained complete response and reflect on the particularities on this special population. Clinical case: In 2009, an 80-year-old man presents with colorectal cancer, undergoes surgery and intraoperatively a peritoneal implant is resected. He is deemed fit for chemotherapy and is treated with 8 cycles of capecitabine. After a 10-year follow-up, he remains with no evidence of disease. Conclusion: Chronological age is insufficient to establish a treatment plan;oncologists must evaluate the patient multidimensionally and develop personalized options for the therapy and follow-up of older individuals.

As near-infrared spectroscopy(NiRS)broadens its application area to diferent age and diseasegroups,motion artifacts in the NiRS signal due to subject movement is becoming an *** artifacts generally produce signal fiuctuations that are larger than physio-logical NiRS signals,thus it is cruciai.to corect for them before obtaining an cstimate ofstimulusevoked hemodynamic responses.,there are various methods for correction such as principlecomponent analy sis(P CA),wavelet-based fi.t ering and spline i.t ***,we i.troduce anew approach to motion artifact correction,targeted principle component analysis(PCA),which incorporates a PCA fi.ter only on the segments of data identified as motion *** expected that this will overcome the issues of fi.tering desired signals that plagues standardPCA fitering of entire data *** compared the new approach with the most efiective motionartifact correction algorithms on a set of data acquired simultaneously with a collodion-fixedprobe(low motion artifact content)and a standard Velcro probe(high motion artifact content).Our results show that tPCA gives stati.tically better results in recovering hemodynamic responsefunction(HRF)as compared to wavelet-based fltering and spline i.terpolation for the *** resulis in a significant reduction in mean-squauared'error(MSE)and significant en-hancement in Pearson's correlation coeficient to the true HRF,the collodion-fixed fiber probewith no motion correction performed better than the Velcro probe corrected for motion artifactsin terms of MSE and Pearson's correlation ***,if the experimental study permits,the use of a collodion-fixed fiber probe may be desirable.i.the use of a collodion-fixed probe is notfeasible,then we suggest the use of tP CA in the processing of motion artifact contaminated data.

AiM： to measure circulating angi.tensins at different stages of human cirrhosis and to further evaluate a possible relationship between renin angi.tensin system （RAS） components and hemodynamic changes. MEtHODS： Patients were allocated i.to 4 groups： mild-to-moderate liver disease （MLD）, advanced liver disease （ALD）, patients undergoing liver transplantation, and healthy controls. Blood was collected to determine plasma renin activity （PRA）, angi.tensin （Ang） Ⅰ, Ang Ⅱ, and Ang-（1-7） levels using radioimmunoassays. During liver transplantation, hemodynamic parameters were determined and blood was simultaneously obtained from the portal vein and radial artery in order to measure RAS components. ResULtS： PRA and angi.tensins were elevated in ALD when compared to MLD and controls （P 〈 0.05）. in contrast, Ang Ⅱ was significantly reduced in MLD. Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were increased in MLD when compared to controls and ALD. During transplantation, Ang Ⅱ levels were lower and Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were higher in the splanchnic circulation than in the peripheral circulation （0.52 ± 0.08 vs 0.38 ±0.04, P 〈 0.02）, whereas the peripheral circulating Ang Ⅱ/Ang Ⅰ ratio was elevated in comparison to splanchnic levels （0.18 ±0.02 vs 0.13 ±0.02, P 〈 0.04）. Ang-（1-7）/ Ang Ⅱ ratios positively correlated with cardiac output （r = 0.66） and negatively correlated with systemic vascular resi.tance （r = -0.70）. CONCLUSiON： Our findings suggest that the relationship between Ang-（1-7） and Ang Ⅱ may play a role in the hemodynamic changes of human cirrhosis.

Amaryllis plants (Hippeastrum hybrid, in the family Amaryllidaceae) are cultivated in Brazil mainly for bulb export. Studies about the nutrient accumulation dynamics by the species are yet incipient when considering Brazilian cultivation conditions. the objective was to determine the nutrient accumulation in amaryllis “Orange Souvereign” cultivated in the field. the experimental design was entirely randomized with four replications and 14 collection periods (at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 330, 360, 390, and 420 days after planting). Sampled plants were divided i.to leaves, bulb, and roots, which were used for determination of nutrient accumulation by leaves (aerial part) and bulb + roots (underground part). Nutrient accumulation of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn was calculated for each collection period, and then represented by curves of macro and micronutrient accumulation, as well as accumulation percentages for each plant part. For most macro and micronutrients, the i.terval of maximum accumulation fell from 301 to 420 days after planting, matching with the cycle final stage of plants cultivated in the field. Accumulated macronutrients by amaryllis plants along the cultivation cycle was, in g·plant-1: 1.57 N;0.19 P;2.58 K;0.64 Ca;0.20 Mg;and 0.29 S, following the descending order: K > N > Ca > S > Mg > P. Accumulated micronutrients, in mg·plant-1, was: 2.18 B;1.17 Cu;22.33 Fe;2.19 Mn;and 4.09 Zn, following the descending order: Fe > Zn > Mn > B > Cu.

the objectives of this research work were to evaluate the effect of in vitro gastroi.testinal digestion (Git) on melon peel juice (MPJ) powder from fruit processing industry by-products,considering (i) the recovery and accessibility indexes,(ii) the changes on antioxidant activity,and (iii) the prebi.tic *** exposition to Git conditions a decrease on the total phenolic content (tPC = 65.31%) and antioxidant activity by ABtS = 39.77% and DPPH = 45.91% were ***,these both parameters exhibited stable accessibility,accounting with 81.89%,76.55%,and 54.07% for tPC,ABtS and DPPH,*** gastroi.testinal digestion,the non-absorbed fraction exhibited a positive impact on the growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains,possibly associ.ted with the high content of simple sugar (glucose and fructose).this fraction also showed to be safe on Caco-2 i.testinal *** findings suggest that MPJ might be used as a potential food functional ingredient.
