Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma(EH)is a rare tumor arising from the vascular endothelial cells of soft tissue or visceral *** most common visceral site is the liver,where it is often involved in a multifocal man-ner known as hepatic EH(HEH).Surgical resection with curative intent represents the gold standard *** surgery is not feasible,or in cases of metastatic disease,no standard medical treatment is currently *** small series,drugs with anti-angiogenic activity(such as bevacizumab,sorafenib,thalidomide,and lenalidomide)have been proposed with promising *** describe a 73-year-old man with multifocal non-resectable HEH treated with *** status was evaluated by abdominal ultrasound and magnetic resonance every four *** patient was treated for a total of 39 mo with prolonged disease stabilization and,at the time of writing,is still under treatment with a good tolerance *** a short period of treatment discontinuation,the disease showed slight progression that immediately resolved after the reintroduction of *** may represent a valid treatment option for HEH due to its anti-angiogenic and antineoplastic *** preliminary result merits further study in a large series.

Surgical resection is the only option of cure for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(CRC). However, the risk of recurrence within 18 mo after metastasectomy is around 75% and the liver is the most frequent site of relapse. The current international guidelines recommend an adjuvant therapy after surgical resection of CRC metastases despite the lower level of evidence(based on the quality of studies in this setting). However, there is still no standard treatment and the effective role of an adjuvant therapy remains controversial. The aim of this review is to report the state-of-art of systemic chemotherapy and regional chemotherapy with hepatic arterial infusion in the management of patients after resection of metastases from CRC, with a literature review and meta-analysis of the relevant randomized controlled trials.

Sendur et al pointed out the attention on the importance of mutational analysis for adjuvant treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in an article published in World Journal of Gastroenterology . In particular, they suggested that the optimal dose and duration of adjuvant therapy could be defined by the mutational status of the primary disease. This comment would underline the importance of centralised laboratories, given the increasingly important role of molecular analysis in the work-flow of all GIST, and the need of retrospective analyses for subgroups population stratified for the mutational status from the available studies in the adjuvant setting, in order to define the role of mutational analysis in choosing the optimal dose and duration of adjuvant therapy.

Nickel and nickel-ceria catalysts supported on high surface area silica, with 6 wt% Ni and 20 wt% CeO2 were prepared by microwave assisted(co) precipitation method. The catalysts were investigated by XRD,TPR and XPS analyses and they were tested in partial oxidation of methane(CPO). The catalytic reaction was carried out at atmospheric pressure in a temperature range of 400–800℃ with a feed gas mixture containing methane and oxygen in a molecular ratio CH4/O2=2. The Ni catalyst exhibited 60% methane conversion with 60% selectivity to CO already at 500℃. On the contrary, the Ni–Ce catalyst was inert to CPO up to 700℃. Moreover, the former catalyst reproduced its activity at the descending temperatures maintaining a good stability at 600℃, over a reaction time of 80 h, whereas the latter one completely deactivated. Test of CH4 temperature programmed surface reaction(CH4-TPSR) revealed a higher methane activation temperature(> 100℃) for the Ni–Ce catalyst as compared to the Ni one. Noticeable improvement of the ceria containing catalyst occurred when the reaction test started at a temperature higher than the methane decomposition temperature. In this case, the sample achieved the same catalytic behavior of the Ni catalyst. As confirmed by XPS analyses, the distinct electronic state of the supported nickel was responsible for the differences in catalytic behavior.

An uncommon clinical presentation of retroperitoneal non-Hodgkin lymphoma successfully treated with chemotherapy: A case report

We report the case of a patient affected by an extra-nodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma presenting as a unique, large retroperitoneal mass with an unusual clinical presentation mimicking gastric peptic or neoplastic disease. The patientwas successfully treated with a first generation therapy,CHOP modified regimen (cyclophosphamide 600mg/m^2 intravenously on d 1, epirubicin 55mg/m^2 intravenously on d 1, vincristine 1.2 mg/m^2 intravenously on d 1,prednisone 60 mg/m^2 on d 1-5), and a complete response was achieved. The (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography was used to assess the therapy outcome. A brief review of literature is provided.
