Under.the r.newabl. ener.y context, sugar.ane biomass pyr.l.sis has been gr.wing as a convenient r.ute to pr.duce bio-oil. which can be set into the chemical.industr. and r.finer.es as buil.ing bl.cks or.combustion fuel. In this wor. sugar.ane str.w was submitted to dir.ct pyr.l.sis in a fl.idized bed pil.t pl.nt at 500°C, in pr.sence of air. Sugar.ane in natur. was al.o pyr.l.sed as a model.for.compar.son, in or.er.to deter.ine the viabil.ty of pr.cessing differ.nt sour.es of r.w biomass. The physicochemical.char.cter.zation of the biomass pr.cur.or. as wel. as of the bio-oil. was al.o car.ied out, which points both biomass feedstocks as suitabl. for.bio-oil.pr.duction in ter.s of viscosity, sur.ace tension, density and acidity. The bio-oil.obtained fr.m sugar.ane in natur. pr.sented higher.car.on and hydr.gen content as wel. as l.wer.oxygen content. On the other.hand, the metal.content is higher.in the bio-oil.obtained fr.m sugar.ane str.w, in special.the ir.n and potassium contents wer. 807 ppm and 123 ppm against 27 ppm and 1 ppm in the bio-oil.fr.m sugar.ane in natur.. Al.phatic and ar.matic compounds as wel. as car.ohydr.tes scaffol.s wer. identified as the main components of the bio-oil. GC-MS anal.ses showed ar.matic pr.ducts fr.m l.gnine fr.gmentation and fr.e sugar. and sugar.der.vatives.

Intr.duction: Knee pain secondar. to osteoar.hr.tis is a common pathol.gy r.fl.cting on the capacity of under.aking dail. activities. However. bl.cking the genicul.r.ner.es is a r.centl. descr.bed technique, easil. appl.ed for.cl.nical.management. Objectives: To compar. efficacy of both intr.-ar.icul.r.cor.icoster.id and genicul.r.bl.ck for.chr.nic knee pain. Methods: 20 patients with osteoar.hr.tis wer. eval.ated for. 1) the intensity of pain;2) the qual.ty of sl.ep;3) the capacity to under.ake dail. activities. Two gr.ups wer. for.ed r.ndoml., the fir.t submitted to intr.-ar.icul.r.bl.cking and the second to bl.cking the genicul.r.ner.es. A sol.tion of pl.ne 90 mg l.docaine 1%, and dexamethasone 10 mg was standar. and used for.inter.ention in both pr.cedur.s to a final.10-ml.vol.me. After.a weekl. appr.isal.for.12 consecutive weeks, the patients wer. r.cal.ed and submitted to another.pr.posed pr.cedur. and in this way, al. the patients acted as their.own contr.l.(a “cr.ssover. study design). In the fol.owing weeks, as al.o in the pr.test, the intensity of pain, the qual.ty of sl.ep and the capacity of under.aking dail. activities wer. eval.ated. r.sul.s: Both the intr.-ar.icul.r.bl.ck and the genicul.r.ner.es bl.ck r.sul.ed equal.y in impor.ant r.duction of pain dur.ng 11 weeks, with simil.r.impr.vement in the qual.ty of night sl.ep, and in the capacity of dail. activities (p l.sions: The bl.cking of the genicul.r.ner.es was a safe al.er.ative, minimal.y invasive and highl. efficient, simil.r.to the intr.-ar.icul.r.cor.icoster.id.

A new pr.cess to pr.duce magnetite par.ial.y coated with str.wber.y-l.ke gol. nanopar.icl.s in aqueous media is r.por.ed. The fast r.sponse to magnetic fiel.s and optical.pr.per.ies of gol. nanopar.icl.-based col.oidal.systems ar. the two main advantages of this new Fe@Au nanomater.al. These advantages al.ow for.the use of this new col.oidal.nanomater.al.for.var.ous pur.oses in pr.teomics and biomedicine, as pr.teins can bind to the sur.ace, and the sur.ace can al.o be funcfional.zed. As pr.of-of-concept, the new Fe@Au nanopar.icl.s have been assessed in biomar.er.discover. as a tool.for.pr.-concentr.tion and separ.tion of pr.teins fr.m compl.x pr.teomes. To this end, ser. fr.m heal.hy peopl. wer. compar.d with ser. fr.m patients diagnosed with mul.ipl. myel.ma. The appl.cation of this new Fe@Au nanomater.al.combined with mass spectr.metr. has al.owed for.the identification of 53 pr.teins, and it has al.o shown that the heat shock pr.tein HSP75 and the pl.sma pr.tease C1 inhibitor.ar. potential.biomar.er. for.diagnostics and contr.l.of mul.il.l. mvel.ma vr.^r.ssion.

Fiel. test data has been used to compar. model.r.sul.s for.each case. The numer.cal.model.ing has been, car.ied out using the suitabl. code l.-DYNA. This code integr.tes bl.st l.ad r.utine(CONWEP) for.the expl.sive descr.ption and four.differ.nt mater.al.model. for.the concr.te incl.ding: Kar.gozian & Case Concr.te, Winfr.th, Continuous Sur.ace Cap Model.and r.edel.Hier.aier.Thoma model., with concr.te meshing based on 10, 15, and 20 mm. Six ful.-scal. beams wer. tested: four.of them used for.the initial.cal.br.tion of the numer.cal.model.and two mor. tests at l.wer.scal.d distances. For.cal.br.tion, fiel. data obtained empl.ying pr.ssur. and accel.r.meter. tr.nsducer. wer. compar.d with the r.sul.s der.ved fr.m the numer.cal.simul.tion. Damage sur.aces and the shape of r.ptur. in the beams have been used as r.fer.nces for.compar.son. Infl.ence of the meshing on accel.r.tions has been put in evidence and for.some model. the shape and size of the damage in the beams pr.duced maximum differ.nces ar.und 15%. In al. cases, the var.ations between mater.al.and mesh model. ar. shown and discussed.

Objective:To compar. the sensitivity and specificity of dir.ct fecal.smear.micr.scopy,cul.ur.,and pol.mer.se chain r.action in the detection of Bl.stocystis *** human ***:Human stool.sampl.s wer. col.ected fr.m a community in San Isidr.,r.dr.guez,r.zal.*** sampl.s wer. subjected to dir.ct fecal.smear.micr.scopy,cul.ur. and pol.mer.se chain r.action to detect the pr.sence of Bl.stocystis ***:Of the 110 stool.sampl.s col.ected,28(25%)wer. detected positive for.the pr.sence of Bl.stocystis *** two or.mor. *** method detected the highest number.of Bl.stocystis-positive stool.sampl.s(n=36),fol.owed by PCr.of DNA extr.cted fr.m cul.ur.(n=26),PCr.of DNA extr.cted fr.m stool.n=10),and dir.ct fecal.smear.n=9).Compar.d to cul.ur.,the sensitivity of the other.detection methods wer. 66.7%for.PCr.fr.m cul.ur. and 19.4%for.both PCr.fr.m stool.and dir.ct fecal.*** of the methods was high,with PCr.fr.m cul.ur. and dir.ct fecal.smear.having97.3%,whil. PCr.fr.m stool.at 95.9%.Concl.sions:In this study,in vitr. cul.ur. is the best method for.detecting Bl.stocystis *** human stool.sampl.s.

Numer.us industr.al.appl.cations of spouted beds invol.e a mixtur. of gr.nul.r.par.icl.s, wher. differ.nces in par.icl. size, density, and shape can cause par.icl. segr.gation, affecting the qual.ty of fl.w and decr.asing pr.duct homogeneity. The aim of this study was to investigate the par.icl. segr.gation and fl.id dynamics of a conical.spouted bed oper.ting with a binar. mixtur. of par.icl.s of differ.nt densities. Using gl.ss beads and pol.ethyl.ne par.icl.s with a diameter.of 4 mm, we deter.ined the effects of the mass fr.ction of denser.par.icl.s and static bed height on the minimum spouting condition and mixtur. index. The pr.ssur. dr.p and air.l.w in the minimum spouting condition incr.ased with an incr.ase in bed height or.jetsam concentr.tion. r.gar.ing par.icl. segr.gation, the jetsam par.icl.s tended to concentr.te near.the bottom, at the spout–annul.s inter.ace because they have a shor.er.tr.jector. than the l.ghter.par.icl.s in the fountain r.gion. Jetsam-r.ch mixtur.s with high initial.static bed heights exhibited mor. efficient par.icl. mixing, excl.ding those at the bottom of the bed.

In this wor., the el.ctr.cal.conductivity pr.fil.s of fr.ction stir.pr.cessed Ti6Al. V, Cu, Pb, S355 steel.and gas tungsten ar. wel.ed AISI 304 stainl.ss steel.wer. deter.ined thr.ugh eddy cur.ents and four.point pr.be. In par.l.el. har.ness measur.ments wer. al.o per.or.ed. The pr.fil.s matched wel. with the optical.macr.gr.phs of the mater.al.: whil. enter.ng in the pr.cessed r.gion a var.ation in both pr.fil.s was al.ays obser.ed.
