Under.the r.newabl. ener.y context, sugar.ane biomass pyr.l.sis has been gr.wing as a convenient r.ute to pr.duce bio-oil. which can be set into the chemical.industr. and r.finer.es as buil.ing bl.cks or.combustion fuel. In this wor. sugar.ane str.w was submitted to dir.ct pyr.l.sis in a fl.idized bed pil.t pl.nt at 500°C, in pr.sence of air. Sugar.ane in natur. was al.o pyr.l.sed as a model.for.compar.son, in or.er.to deter.ine the viabil.ty of pr.cessing differ.nt sour.es of r.w biomass. The physicochemical.char.cter.zation of the biomass pr.cur.or. as wel. as of the bio-oil. was al.o car.ied out, which points both biomass feedstocks as suitabl. for.bio-oil.pr.duction in ter.s of viscosity, sur.ace tension, density and acidity. The bio-oil.obtained fr.m sugar.ane in natur. pr.sented higher.car.on and hydr.gen content as wel. as l.wer.oxygen content. On the other.hand, the metal.content is higher.in the bio-oil.obtained fr.m sugar.ane str.w, in special.the ir.n and potassium contents wer. 807 ppm and 123 ppm against 27 ppm and 1 ppm in the bio-oil.fr.m sugar.ane in natur.. Al.phatic and ar.matic compounds as wel. as car.ohydr.tes scaffol.s wer. identified as the main components of the bio-oil. GC-MS anal.ses showed ar.matic pr.ducts fr.m l.gnine fr.gmentation and fr.e sugar. and sugar.der.vatives.
