A Registry-Based Observational Study on the Maternal and Fetal Outcomes of COVID-19 Patients in Hong Kong

Objective: To report the clinical maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnant women with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), along with any associated pregnancy complications, in Hong Kong, China, and to assess the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on these ***: This prospective registry-based observational study included pregnant women who were recruited through convenient sampling and had a laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection with a cycle threshold (Ct) value result available on admission to eight local hospitals in Hong Kong, China. Data on clinical symptoms, laboratory results, medical treatments, delivery timing and mode, and pregnancy complications were extracted from the Hospital Authority’s electronic medical record system. Maternal, fetal, and pregnancy outcomes were compared between unvaccinated pregnant women with COVID-19 and those who had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine before diagnosis. Nonparametric continuous variables and categorical variables were analyzed using the Mann-WhitneyU test and the Pearson’s chi-squared test respectively. AP value less than 0.05 was considered statistically ***: A total of 164 pregnant women were included, of whom 78 (47.56%) were nulliparous. COVID-19 was diagnosed before 28 weeks’ gestation in 30 (18.29%), while 134 (81.71 %) were diagnosed at or after 28 weeks’ gestation. Sixty-two (37.80%) women received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. There were no significant differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups in the time interval between COVID-19 diagnosis and delivery, the Ct value, and the gestational age at infection onset or delivery (P > 0.05). The majority of women were symptomatic at diagnosis regardless of vaccination status (55 (88.71%) in vaccinated groupvs. 78 (76.47%) in unvaccinated group (P = 0.052). HeR3-targeted therapeutic antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates in non-small cell lung cancer refractory to eGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors

Biodegradable magnesium materials regulate ROS-RNS balance in pro-inflammatory macrophage environment

The relationship between reactive oxygen and nitrogen species(ROS-RNS)secretion and the concomitant biocorrosion of degradable magnesium(Mg)materials is poorly *** found that Mg foils implanted short term in vivo(24 h)displayed large amounts of proinflammatory F4/80+/iNOS+macrophages at the *** sought to investigate the interplay between biodegrading Mg materials(98.6%Mg,AZ31&AZ61)and macrophages(RAW 264.7)stimulated with lipopolysaccharide(RAW 264.7^(LPS))to induce ROS-RNS *** test how these proinflammatory ROS-RNS secreting cells interact with Mg corrosion in vitro,Mg and AZ61 discs were suspended approximately 2 mm above a monolayer of RAW 264.7 cells,either with or without ^(LPS).The surfaces of both materials showed acute(24 h)changes when incubated in the proinflammatory RAW 264.7^(LPS) *** discs incubated with RAW 264.7^(LPS) macrophages showed greater corrosion pitting,while AZ61 showed morphological and elemental bulk product changes via scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SeM-eDX).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis showed a reduction in the Ca/P ratio of the surface products for AZ61 disc incubated with RAW 264.7^(LPS),but not the Mg ***,RAW 264.7^(LPS) macrophages were found to be more viable in the acute biodegradative environment generated by Mg materials,as demonstrated by calcein-AM and cleaved(active)caspase-3 staining(CC3).^(LPS) stimulation caused an increase in ROS-RNS,and a decrease in antioxidant peroxidase *** and AZ61 were found to change this ROS-RNS balance,independently of physiological antioxidant *** findings highlight the complexity of the cellular driven acute inflammatory responses to different biodegradable Mg,and how it can potentially affect performance of these materials.

Which psychosocial factors are associated with return to sport following concussion? A systematic review

Background:Psycho social factors predict recurrent inj ury and return to preinjury level of performance following orthopedic injury but are poorly understood following *** management protocols prioritize physical measures of ***,the objective of this study was to describe the psychosocial factors associated with return to sport(RTS) and how they are measured in athletes who sustained a ***:MeDLINe,embase,APA PsycINFO,CINAHL,and SPORTDiscus were searched through February 2,*** studies included original peer-reviewed publications describing psychosocial factors associated with RTS following a diagnosed *** primary outcome was scales or measures employed and/or key thematic ***:Of the 3615 studies identified,10 quantitative cohort studies(Oxford Centre for evidence-Based Medicine Level-3) representing 2032 athletes(85% male;high-school and collegiate collision/contact athletes) and 4 qualitative studies representing 66 athletes(74% male;70% American football;aged 9-28 years) were *** identified 3 overarching themes and 10 outcome measures related to psychosocial factors associated with RTS following concussion:(a) fear(e.g,of recurrent concussion,of RTS,of losing playing status);(b) emotional factors(e.g,depression,anxiety,perceived stress,mental health,disturbance mood);and(c) contextual factors(e.g,social support,pressure,sense of identity).Conclusion:Although current medical clearance decisions prioritize physical measures of recovery,evidence suggests diverse psychosocial factors influence RTS following *** remains unclear which psychosocial factors contribute to a successful RTS,including the influence of sex/gender and *** studies should evaluate the association of psychological readiness with physical measures of recovery at medical clearance,preinjury level of performance,and risk of recurrent concussion to support RTS clinical decision-making.

Sino-U.S. partnerships in research, education, and patient care：The experience of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC

In 2011, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine(UPSOM) and Tsinghua University formed a partnership to further the education of Tsinghua medical students. These students come to UPSOM as visiting research scholars for two years of their eight-year MD curriculum. During this time, the students, who have completed four years at Tsinghua, work full-time in medical school laboratories and research programs of their choice, essentially functioning as graduate students. In their first two months in Pittsburgh, the scholars have a one-week orientation to biomedical research, followed by two-week rotations in four labs selected on the basis of the scholars' scientific interests, after which they choose one of these labs for the remainder of the two *** labs may be in basic science departments, basic science divisions of clinical departments, or specialized centers that focus on approaches like simulation and modeling. The Tsinghua students also have a brief exposure to clinical medicine. UPSOM has also formed a similar partnership with Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine in Changsha, Hunan Province. The Xiangya students come to UPSOM for two years of research training after their sixth year and, thus, unlike the Tsinghua students,have already completed their clinical rotations. UPSOM faculty members have also paved the way for UPMC(University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), UPSOM's clinical partner, to engage with clinical centers in China. Major relationships involving advisory, training, managerial, and/or equity roles exist with Xiangya International Medical Center, KingMeD Diagnostics, First Chengmei Medical Industry Group, and Macare Women's Hospital. Both UPSOM and UPMC are actively exploring other clinical and academic opportunities in China.
