Members of the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known fungi associated with dieback,canker and fruit rot on various hosts worldwide,including *** aim of this study was identify a large collection of Botryosphaeriaceae species associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 115 isolates were sampled and based on morphology and DNA sequence data(ITS and EF1-α)seven taxa were identified,namely,Botryosphaeria dothidea,***,Fusicoccum fabicercianum,Neofusicoccum parvum,*** ***,Neoscytalidium dimidiatum and Pseudofusicoccum *** and *** were the most commonly isolated species,which represented 37%and 33%of all isolates *** is reported for the first time in association with mango diseases *** were significant differences among the species obtained in this study in relation to optimum temperature for mycelial growth and mycelial growth *** species were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,with *** and *** being the most virulent species,while *** was the least virulent.

Mango(Mangifera indica)is a major tropical fruit species cultivated in *** objective of this study was to identify species of lasiodiplodia associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 120 isolates of lasiodiplodia were used and identifications were made using a combination of morphology and phylogenetic analysis based on partial translation elongation factor 1-αsequence(EF1-α)and internal transcribed spacers(ITS).The following species were identified:lasiodiplodia crassispora,***,***,***,***,*** and lasiodiplodia sp..lasiodiplodia theobromae was the most frequently isolated species,which represented 41%of all the *** this species had been previously reported on mango in Brazil,while the other species represent the first report associated with mango tree diseases in this *** crassispora is reported for the first time associated with mango diseases *** were significant differences in mycelial growth rates among the lasiodiplodia species and also in the optimum temperature for *** species of lasiodiplodia were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,wherein *** and lasiodiplodia *** the most virulent,while the least virulent were ***,***,*** and ***.

Unlike other balistids, grey triggerfish Balistes capriscus occur in social groups in subtropical reef assemblages and have been noted to cooperate in capturing large crustacean prey. The objective of this study were to determine the structure of dominance hierarchies of these social groups and the factors that influence hierarchies of wild-caught grey triggerfish in a natu- ralistic setting. From observations of four groups of triggerfish （n = 19 fish） in both dyad and group （4 - 5 fish） settings, we provide a description of triggerfish behaviors and coloration patterns and an explanation of the social context in which suites of behaviors are used by dominant, middle-ranking, and subordinate fish. Sixteen behaviors and nine coloration patterns were noted for grey triggerfish. Grey triggerfish groups form linear hierarchies in both dyads and groups as measured by landau＇s lndex of linearity （h = 1.0 for Groups 1, 3, and 4 and h = 0.95 for Group 2 in dyads; h = 1.0 for all groups in group settings）. Dyadic hierarchies, however, were not necessarily good predictors of the hierarchies found in larger group settings, as they only predicted two of the four group hierarchies. Sex played no role in influencing status or behavior. Size had the greatest influence on domi- nance status, with larger fish being more dominant than smaller fish. An individual＇s dominance ranking influenced both body coloration and posture. These results suggest that color patterns and body postures may also be used by observers as an indicator of an individual＇s social status in groups [Current Zoology 56 （1）： 18-35, 2010].

Introduction:Patients with soft tissue sarcoma(STS)that present with metastasis at diagnosis have a dire *** this patient population,we sought to assess:(1)demographic and clinical characteristics,(2)metastatic patterns,(3)treatment strategies,and(4)disease-specific survival(DSS).Materials and Methods:The SEER database was queried to identify patients with histologically confirmed STS of the pelvis or *** and multivariate analysis was performed using the Cox proportional hazards ***-specific survival(DSS)was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier ***:A total of 22,683 patients were retrieved,out of which 2,553(11.3%)had metastasis at ***,undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma(UPS),liposarcoma,synovial sarcoma,spindle cell sarcoma,and alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma(A-RMS)were the six most common STS presenting with *** patients with metastasis,53.7%and 33.2%of patients had primary tumors located in the lower limb and pelvis,*** was the most common site of metastasis in all subtypes except A-RMS,in which bone metastases and lymph node(lN)predominated(85.2%and 62.1%,respectively).Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were associated with higher DSS(HR=0.788 and HR=0.755,respectively).Five-year DSS was below 20%in all tumor ***-year DSS for patients with synchronous lung and liver metastases was 28%.Conclusion:Although the lung was the most common site of metastasis,metastatic patterns are highly variable depending on tumor *** A-RMS is most commonly presented with regional lN and bone ***-specific survival remained poor for patients with metastatic disease at presentation regardless of(neo)-adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

The Puesto Piris Formation: Evidence of basin-development in the North Patagonian Massif during crustal extension associated with Gondwana breakup

The Marifil Volcanic Complex, exposed in the eastern North Patagonian Massif, Argentina, includes up to 550 m of red conglomerates, sandstones, black siltstones, limestones, and reworked tuff of the Puesto Piris Formation. The basal part of this unit, which was deposited in high-gradient topographic relief, is composed of conglomerates and sandstones with thin layers of reworked tuffs. The lithofacies associations of the basal part indicate that the depositional mechanisms were mantled and gravitational *** middle part of the unit consists of fine sandstones, limestones, and black siltstones that were deposited in low-energy fluvial and lacustrine environments. The outcrops are located along the NEe Sw direction and the major thickest units represented by limestones and siltstones, occur near the southeastern border of this NEeS w depocenter. Since the rhyolitic and trachytic lava flows and tuffs of the Marifil Volcanic Complex are interbedded with the sedimentary sequences of the Puesto Piris Formation,both units are coeval. Zircon Ue Pb age was obtained for a trachytic lava flow(193.4 ±3.1 Ma) suggesting that sedimentation and volcanism are Sinemurian. This extensional episode was recorded in the eastern,western, and southwestern sectors of the North Patagonian Massif, and is possibly associated with the Gondwana supercontinent breakup.

PllA-modified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were produced from commercial CNC by tin-catalyzed polymerization of lactide in presence of CNC. FTIR spectroscopy demonstrated that the result of the reaction produced the grafting of PllA chains onto CNC surface (CNC-g-PllA). Films of poly(lactic acid) (PlA) and PlA/CNC nanocomposites (with non-modified CNC and CNC-g-PllA) containing 0.5% and 5% (w/w) of the nanofillers were prepared by casting in chloroform solution and the crystallization behavior and thermal properties investigated. All nano-composites had similar thermal stability when analyzed by TGA analyses under an inert nitrogen atmosphere. Addition of both types of CNC influenced crystallization, the higher crystallization rate being observed for 5% (w/w) CNC. Nanocomposites with 5% (w/w) CNC-g-PllA had the strain resistance of PlA improved in the rubbery state. PllA-modification of CNC surface increased the crystallization of PlA in PlA/CNC nanocomposites and improved the rigidity at temperatures above the glass transition, properties which are desirable for hot drinking application.

The Brazilian state of Acre has an extensive natural reserve of bamboo,making it one of the largest in loco gene *** aim of this study was to characterize the structure and genetic diversity of Guadua weberbaueri *** two populations,one native(FAPB)and the other anthropized(FAPBA),using ISSR *** results show that the FAPB population exhibited higher values for all estimates of population ***,the FAPBA population also showed high heterozygosity,corroborated by estimated gene flow(Nm=3.9)between the *** study of the association between Nei’s genetic distances and the geographic distances between the populations were significantly correlated(r=0.45,p=0.01),corroborated by the dendrogram revealing two distinct groups corresponding to the collection sites,without mixing classes between populations in the same *** for the coancestry coefficient,pairs of individuals in the first distance class were positive and significant,indicating that plants that are geographically closer share common alleles with a frequency greater than by chance,which means that there is a tendency that geographically closer individuals are *** presented similar genetic structure when the geographical distance between them was up to 56 m for FAPB and up to 156 m for *** was concluded that anthropized environments exhibit less genetic diversity than native environments,inferring risks for species conservation if appropriate and planned management techniques are not adopted.
