Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) is currently considered an important etiologic agent of swine and its infection has potentially serious economic impact on the swine industry worldwide. This virus is frequently associated with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), and also with other clinical conditions such as porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), late-term abortions, reproductive failure in sows, proliferative and necrotizing pneumonia and congenital tremors. The term porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVAD) is currently used to refer to any of these diseases when they are associated with PCV2 infection. The PCV2 was recognized as a pathogen in 1997, and many questions regarding its biology and pathogenesis remain unanswered. Currently, some studies have shown the production of new vaccine candidates and field efficacy testing of commercial vaccines. This review discusses some major points concerned with immunopathogenesis and vaccines for PCV2 infection.

Presented in several types of food, bioactive amines are described as organic bases of low molecular weight. They have vasoactive, psychoactive and toxicological characteristics and constitute a potential health risk. The concentration of amines formed in foods depends on the type of microorganisms present, the action of decarboxylase enzymes produced by microorganisms on specific amino acids and favorable conditions for enzymatic activity. The presence of these chemical metabolites has been suggested as a quality indicator in routine analyzes for food production and marketing monitoring. The detection of bioactive amines can be performed by chromatographic methods, fluorometric and enzymatic kits. Bioactive amine formation can be prevented mainly through the adoption of good manufacturing practices, but the industry can also use other methods such as temperature control in the production chain, modified atmosphere packaging and food irradiation. This review aims to address the formation of bioactive amines in foods, emphasizing the formation and classification of these metabolites, aspects related to health, acceptable limits, detection methods and control methods used in the industry to ensure food safety and quality. The success of this approach is linked to the importance of bioactive amines as quality indicators, as well as the discussion on the development of methodologies for determining these substances and discussion of acceptable parameters in food.

Psidium guajava L. has extensive use in folk medicine. The aim of this study was to quantify the levels of phenolic, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, leathality assay and antibacterial and antitumoral activities of the extract of P. guajava. In the dry guava extract there were high levels of phenolics (766.08 ± 14.52 mg/g), flavonoids (118.90 ± 5.47 mg/g) and antioxidant activity (87.65%). The LD50 was 185.15 μg/ml. The MIC value was 250 μg/ml for Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus oralis. IC50 of the extract tested in the HeLa, RKO and Wi cell lines was 15.6 ± 0.8 μg/ml, 21.2 ± 1.1 μg/ml and 68.9 ± 1.5 μg/ml, respectively. The results of all analyses allow us to conclude that the dry extract of guava leaves has promising activity to be applied topically in the oral cavity or in the development of antitumor formulation or even be used as a functional food.

Kinetic Modeling of Esterification Reaction of Free Fatty Acids Present in Macauba Oil Using a Cationic Resin as Catalyst

The cost of raw materials has the largest contribution to the final price of biodiesel produced by traditional routes, currently adopted in most industrial scale processes. That contribution comes from the need to use edible and noble oils, with low acidity, such as soybean oil. This work proposes＇the use of Macauba oil, a vegetable oil in focus in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in which the current extractive yield generates a raw material with high acidity, therefore, not suitable to be used in biodiesel production. To make it technically feasible, a cationic exchange resin, the Purolite CT275DR, was used as a catalyst for esterification reaction with samples of Macauba oil, aiming to reduce its acidity. The resin can be reused, regenerated and easily removed from the reaction product, reducing costs with catalyst and purification stages. As a result of this work, in a sample of oil with an initial acidity of about 10% m/m were achieved acidity reductions up to 97% by using cationic resins as catalyst, demonstrating its potential use in the oil pretreatrnent step. Additionally, the data collected during all the analysis made it possible to define the chemical kinetic of the esterification reaction.

The novel of COVID-19 disease started in late 2019 making the worldwide governments came across a high number of critical and death cases,beyond constant fear of the collapse in their health *** the beginning of the pandemic,researchers and authorities are mainly concerned with carrying out quantitative studies(modeling and predictions)overcoming the scarcity of tests that lead us to under-reporting *** address these issues,we introduce a Bayesian approach to the SIR model with correction for underreporting in the analysis of COVID-19 cases in *** proposed model was enforced to obtain estimates of important quantities such as the reproductive rate and the average infection period,along with the more likely date when the pandemic peak may *** under-reporting scenarios were considered in the simulation study,showing how impacting is the lack of information in the modeling.

AIM To investigate the contribution of polymorphisms in the CYP1A1, CYP2E1 and EPHX1 genes on sporadic colorectal cancer(SCRC) risk. METHODS Six hundred forty-one individuals(227 patients with SCRC and 400 controls) were enrolled in the study. The variables analyzed were age, gender, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and clinical and histopathological tumor parameters. The CYP1A1 *2A, CYP1A1 *2C CYP2E1 *5B and CYP2E1 *6 polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). The EPHX1 Tyr113 His, EPHX1 His139 Arg and CYP1A1 *2C polymorphisms were detected by real-time PCR. Chisquared test and binary logistic regression were used in the statistical analysis. Haplotype analysis was conducted using the Haploview program, version *** Age over 6 2 years was a risk factor for SCRC development(OR = 7.54, 95%CI: 4.94-11.50, P < 0.01). Male individuals were less susceptible to SCRC(OR = 0.55, 95%CI: 0.35-0.85, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*5B polymorphism was associated with SCRC in the codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.66, 95%CI: 1.64-4.32, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.82, 95%CI: 1.74-4.55, P < 0.01), overdominant(OR = 2.58, 95%CI: 1.59-4.19, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.84, 95%CI: 1.78-4.52, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*6 polymorphism was associated with an increased SCRC risk in codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.81, 95%CI: 1.84-4.28, P < 0.01; homozygous polymorphic : OR = 7. 3 2, 9 5 % C I : 1.85-28.96, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.97, 95%CI: 1.97-4.50, P < 0.01), recessive(OR = 5.26, 95%CI: 1.35-20.50, P = 0.016), overdominant(OR = 2.64, 95%CI: 1.74-4.01, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.78, 95%CI: 1.91-4.06, P < 0.01). Dental caries, the disease that causes tooth decay, is infectious, and the mutans streptococci bacteria have long been identified as the primary disease-causing agents. Caries vaccines showed promising results in experimental studies;however, it remains far the effective use in humans due to political-economic and ethical issues. Progress towards practical vaccine development requires evaluation of candidate vaccines in clinical trials. Promising strategies of passive immunization also require further clinical evaluation. The purpose of this chapter is to review the literature on the main research projects aimed at developing caries vaccines.

In this paper we present combinatorial interpretations and polynomials generalizations for sequences including the Fibonacci numbers, the Pell numbers and the Jacobsthal numbers in terms of partitions. It is important to mention that results of this nature were given by Santos and Ivkovic in two papers published on the Fibonacci Quarterly, Polynomial generalizations of the Pell sequence and the Fibonacci sequence [1] and Fibonacci Numbers and Partitions [2] , and one, by Santos, on Discrete Mathematics, On the Combinatorics of Polynomial generalizations of Rogers-Ramanujan Type Identities [3]. By these results one can see that from the q-series identities important combinatorial information can be obtained by a careful study of the two variable function introduced by Andrews in Combinatorics and Ramanujan's lost notebook [4].

Acmella oleracea is a plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family, native to the Amazon that has broad therapeutic and culinary use. Several secondary metabolites and your bioactive component spilanthol have been associated with its medicinal effects. This study aims to evaluate the leaf extract of A. oleracea for therapeutic purposes. When applied to both cell cultures HEp-2 neoplastic cells and L929 fibroblast cells, the increasing extract concentrations yielded a significant reduction in cell viability using ANOVA test with Significance of P ≤ 0.05 (*), Very Significant P ≤ 0.01 (***) and Extremely Significant P ≤ 0.001 (****), causing visible damage to cytoskeleton actin filaments. The cytotoxicity of the A. oleracea leaf extract may be associated with other components, including flavonoids. Thus, A. oleracea has a great cytotoxic activity on tumoral cells and can be considered for future antitumor therapy. However, because of its toxicity to non-tumoral cells, it is essential to evaluate the efficacy of each extract sub-fraction compound, alerting the population for the traditional use of the plant that can cause damage for the consumer.
