Obesity has a complex multifactorial etiology and is characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose *** adipose tissue has deleterious effects on health because it secretes large amounts of inflammatory *** calorie restriction associated with strength training may be useful in managing chronic systemic *** study aimed to evaluate the acute effect of a single strength-training session on plasma adipokine levels in sedentary,overweight,and obese young *** study included twelve men(Age:[34.95±9.77]years;Height:[174.16±3.66]centimeter[cm];Weight:[97.83±12.87]kilogram(kg);body mass index[BMI]:[32.30±4.51]kg/m2),who performed a single strength training *** strength training protocol consisted of 4 sets of 12 repetitions in the following six exercises,45°leg press,bench press,leg extension,machine row,leg curl,and shoulder *** samples were collected before,immediately after,and 1-h subsequent after strength *** plasma levels of resistin and leptin were measured.A significant decrease in resistin levels were found 1 h after the strength training session if compared to levels before the training session(pre-[before][2390±1199]picograms per milliliter[pg/mL]vs post-1 h[1-h subsequent][1523±798],6 pg/mL,p=0.0028).The plasma leptin levels did not differ at any time *** conclusion,a very well controlled single session of strength training significantly decreased the plasma levels of resistin without altering the concentration of leptin in overweight and obese *** effect,at least in part,supports the benefits of exercise by reducing the low grade inflammation and insulin resistance in obesity.

Feature reduction with PCA/ KPCA for gait classification with different assistive devices

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to propose a gait analysis technique that aims to identify differences and similarities in gait performance between three different assistive devices(ADs).Design/methodology/approach–Two feature reduction techniques,linear principal component analysis(PCA)and nonlinear kernel-PCA(KPCA),are expanded to provide a comparison of the spatio-temporal,symmetrical indexes and postural control parameters among the three different ***,a multiclass support vector machine(MSVM)with different approaches is designed to evaluate the potential of PCA and KPCA to extract relevant gait features that can differentiate between ***–Results demonstrated that symmetrical indexes and postural control parameters are better suited to provide useful information about the different gait patterns that total knee arthroplasty(TKA)patients present when walking with different *** combination of KPCA and MSVM with discriminant functions(MSVM DF)resulted in a noticeably improved *** combination demonstrated that,with symmetric indexes and postural control parameters,it is possible to extract with high-accuracy nonlinear gait features for automatic classification of gait patterns with ***/value–The information obtained with the proposed technique could be used to identify benefits and limitations of ADs on the rehabilitation process and to evaluate the benefit of their use in TKA patients.

Dear Editor, The multiple targeting proteins that have been described in yeast, mammals, and plants have generated intriguing areas of inquiry, including the evolutionary relevance of common proteins shared by different organelles, the mechanisms that determine targeting to each organelle, and, finally, the extent of this phenomenon. Several dual-targeted proteins have been identified in eukaryotic cells.

Gastrointestinal manifestations in myotonic muscular dystrophy

Myotonic dystrophy （MD） is characterized by myotonic phenomena and progressive muscular weakness. Involvement of the gastrointestinal tract is frequent and may occur at any level. The clinical manifestations have previously been attributed to motility disorders caused by smooth muscle damage, but histologic evidence of alterations has been scarce and conflicting. A neural factor has also been hypothesized. In the upper digestive tract, dysphagia, heartburn, regurgitation and dyspepsia are the most common complaints, while in the lower tract, abdominal pain, bloating and changes in bowel habits are often reported. Digestive symptoms may be the first sign of dystrophic disease and may precede the rnusculo-skeletal features. The impairment of gastrointestinal function may be sometimes so gradual that the patients adapt to it with little awareness of symptoms. In such cases routine endoscopic and ultrasonographic evaluations are not sufficient and targeted techniques （electrogastrography, manornetry, electromyography, functional ultrasonography, scintigraphy, etc.） are needed. There is a low correlation between the degree of skeletal muscle involvement and the presence and severity of gastrointestinal disturbances whereas a positive correlation with the duration of the skeletal muscle disease has been reported. The drugs recommended for treating the gastrointestinal complaints such as prokinetic, antidyspeptic drugs and laxatives, are mainly aimed at correcting the motility disorders. Gastrointestinal involvement in MD remains a complex and intriguing condition since many important problems are still unsolved. Further studies concentrating on genetic aspects, early diagnostic techniques and the development of new therapeutic strategies are needed to improve our management of the gastrointestinal manifestations of MD.

Natural disasters have impacted human settlements throughout the centuries, imparting lessons as new ways and strategies to avoid or minimize the damage inflicted by the natural processes. This on-going process has created new landscapes instrumental to man＇s balance of the use of the land by taking into account the probability of further natural disasters. This paper discusses the responses to disaster challenges taking past experiences on ＂after disaster decisions＂ in London 1666, in Lisbon 1755 as a framework to analyse the more recent Great East Japan Earthquake disaster. The concept of sustainability which adds a new perspective to the subject of more resistant solutions and strategies as the opportunity for a new design is presented by the destruction. Sustainable environmental, social and cultural issues improvements are important goals introduced in the 20th century and enrich long-term human adaptations to natural processes. They are also considered in this analysis as an evolving final product of the human adaptation that results in more durable cultural landscapes.

Radiotherapy(RT)is the backbone of multimodality treatment of more than half of cancer *** new modern RT techniques,late complications may occur such as radiation proctitis(RP).The natural history of RP is *** symptoms may resolve spontaneously or require conservative *** the other hand,for similar and uncomplicated clinical contexts,symptoms may persist and can even be refractory to the progressive increase in treatment *** the last decades,an enormous therapeutic armamentarium has been considered in RP,including hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT).Currently,the evidence regarding the impact of HBOT on RP and its benefits is *** prospective and randomised studies are necessary to validate HBOT’s effectiveness in the‘real world’clinical *** article reviewed the relevant literature on pathophysiology,clinical presentation,different classifications and discuss RP management including a proposal for a therapeutic algorithm with a focus on HBOT.

Successful double fertilization and subsequent seed development in flowering plants requires the delivery of two sperm cells, transported by a pollen tube, into the embryo sac of an ovule. The embryo sac cells tightly control synergid cell death, and as a result the polyspermy block. Arabinogalactan proteins are highly glycosylated proteins thought to be involved in several steps of the reproductive process. We show that JAGGER, Arabinogalactan Protein 4, is an important molecule necessary to prevent the growth of multiple pollen tubes into one embryo sac in Arabidopsis thaliana. In jagger, an AGP4 knockout mutant, the pistils show impaired pollen tube blockage as a consequence of the survival of the persistent synergid. JAGGER seems to be involved in the signaling pathway that leads to a blockage of pollen tube attraction. Our results shed light on the mechanism responsible for preventing polyspermy in Arabidopsis and for safe- guarding successful fertilization of all ovules in one pistil, ensuring seed set and the next generation.

AIM:To investigate whether butyrate or glutamine enemas could diminish inflammation in experimental diversion ***:Wistar specific pathogen-free rats were submitted to a Hartmann's end colostomy and treated with enemas containing glutamine,butyrate,or *** were administered twice a week in the excluded segment of the colon from 4 to 12 wk after the surgical ***-up colonoscopy was performed every 4 wk for 12 *** effect of treatment was evaluated using video-endoscopic and histologic scores and measuring interleukin-1β,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and transforming growth factor beta production in organ cultures by enzyme linked immunosorbent ***:Colonoscopies of the diverted segment showed mucosa with hyperemia,increased number of vessels,bleeding and mucus *** with either glutamine or butyrate induced significant reductions in both colonoscopic(P < 0.02) and histological scores(P < 0.01) and restored the densities of collagen fibers in tissue(P = 0.015;P = 0.001),the number of goblet cells(P = 0.021;P = 0.029),and the rate of apoptosis within the epithelium(P = 0.043;P = 0.011) to normal *** high levels of cytokines in colon explants from rats with diversion colitis significantly decreased to normal values after treatment with butyrate or ***:The improvement of experimental diversion colitis following glutamine or butyrate enemas highlights the importance of specific luminal nutrients in the homeostasis of the colonic mucosa and supports their utilization for the treatment of human diversion colitis.

Polyomaviruses BK and JC are ubiquitous viruses with high seroprevalence rates in general *** primary infection,polyomaviruses BK and JC persist latently in different sites,particularly in the reno-urinary *** from latency may occur in normal subjects with asymptomatic viruria,while it can be associated to nephropathy(PVAN)in kidney transplantat *** may occur in 1%-10%of renal transplant patients with loss of the transplanted organ in 30%up to 80%of the *** of PVAN is mainly attributable to BK virus,although approximately5%of the cases may be due to *** of PVAN is still unknown,although viral replication and the lack of immune control play a major *** represents the condicio sine qua non for the development of PVAN and the modulation of anti-rejection treatment represents the first line of intervention,given the lack of specific antiviral *** moment,an appropriate immunemodulation can only be accomplished by early identification of viral reactivacation by evaluation of polyomavirus load on serum and/or urine specimens,particularly in the first year ***-immunological monitoring of specific cellular immune response could be useful to identify patients unable to recover cellular immunity posttransplantation,that are at higher risk of viral reactivation with development of ***,the main features of polyomaviruses BK and JC,biological properties,clinical characteristics,etiopathogenesis,monitoring and diag-nosing of PVAN will be described and discussed,with an extended citation of related relevant literature data.

Renin-angiotensin system in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis

Hepatic fibrosis is considered a common response to many chronic hepatic injuries. It is a multifunctional process that involves several cell types, cytokines, chemokines and growth factors leading to a disruption of homeostatic mechanisms that maintain the liver ecosystem. In spite of many studies regarding the development of fibrosis, the understanding of the pathogenesis remains obscure. The hepatic tissue remodeling process is highly complex, resulting from the balance between collagen degradation and synthesis. Among the many mediators that take part in this process, the components of the Renin angiotensin system （RAS） have progressively assumed an important role. Angiotensin （Ang） II acts as a profibrotic mediator and Ang-（1-7）, the newly recognized RAS component, appears to exert a counter-regulatory role in liver tissue. We briefly review the liver fibrosis process and current aspects of the RAS. This review also aims to discuss some experimental evidence regarding the participation of RAS mediators in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis, focusing on the putative role of the ACE2-Ang-（1-7）- Mas receptor axis.
