Progressive supranuclear palsy,corticobasal degeneration,multiple system atrophy and dementia with Lewy bodies are the most common causes of atypical Parkinsonism and enter the differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.multiple system atrophy,dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson's disease are synucleinopathies,whereas progressive supranuclear palsy and corticobasal degeneration are tauopathies.Multiple cerebrospinal fluid markers have been applied on cohorts of patients with Parkinsonism,with the aim to develop biomarkers for these disorders.Total tau(τΤ),phosphorylated tau at threonine 181(τP-181)and amyloid-beta with 42 amino acids(Aβ42)are considered classical biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease.The aim of the present study is to review the literature regarding these classical cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers in cohorts with Parkinsonism,as well as present data on novel approaches regarding analysis of these proteins.

In healthy individuals,the intestinal epithelium forms a tight barrier to prevent gut bacteria from reaching blood circulation.To study the effect of probiotics,dietary compounds and drugs on gut barrier formation and disruption,human gut epithelial and bacterial cells can be cocultured in an in vitro model called the human microbial crosstalk(HuMiX)gut-on-a-chip system.Here,we present the design,fabrication and integration of thin-film electrodes into the HuMiX platform to measure transepithelial electrical resistance(TEER)as a direct readout on barrier tightness in realtime.As various aspects of the HuMiX platform have already been set in their design,such as multiple compressible layers,uneven surfaces and nontransparent materials,a novel fabrication method was developed whereby thin-film metal electrodes were first deposited on flexible substrates and sequentially integrated with the HuMiX system via a transfer-tape approach.Moreover,to measure localized TEER along the cell culture chamber,we integrated multiple electrodes that were connected to an impedance analyzer via a multiplexer.We further developed a dynamic normalization method because the active measurement area depends on the measured TEER levels.The fabrication process and system setup can be applicable to other barrier-on-chip systems.As a proof-of-concept,we measured the barrier formation of a cancerous Caco-2 cell line in real-time,which was mapped at four spatially separated positions along the HuMiX culture area.

Background There is a strong,bi-directional link between tuberculosis(TB)and undernutrition:TB often causes undernutrition,and undernourished people are more likely to contract TB and experience worse outcomes.Globally,several TB nutritional support programmes exist;however,evidence on their effectiveness is limited and contested.This study evaluates the effect of a nutritional support programme implemented for people with TB in the Atsimo-Andrefana region,Madagascar in 2022.Within this programme,undernourished people with TB[with a body mass index(BMI)of<18.5 kg/m]receive 0.6 L of vegetable oil and 6.0 kg of a soy-wheat blend per month throughout their TB treatment.Methods We analysed secondary non-governmental organisation data collected between January and Novem-ber 2022 in the Atsimo-Andrefana region,Southern Madagascar,including information on an individual's medical conditions(e.g.,type of TB,treatment outcomes)and nutritional status measured prior to,during,and after comple-tion of treatment(e.g.,height,weight,mid-upper arm circumference).We conducted descriptive analyses of patient baseline characteristics and outcomes to assess the impact of the provided nutritional support on the BMI of people With TB.Results A total of 1310 people with TB were included in the study[9.9%(130)children under the age of 5,32.1%(420)children between 5 and 18 years,58.0%(760)adults].55.4% of children under 5,28.1% of children between ages 5 and 18,and 81.3%of adults were undernourished at treatment initiation.42.3%(55/130)of children under 5 experi-enced severe acute malnutrition at treatment uptake.While the average BMl of adults with TB receiving food support increased over time,from 17.1 kg/m^(2)(interquartile range:15.8-18.3,range:10.3-22.5)to 17.9 kg/m^(2)(interquartile range:16.6-19.1,range:11.9-24.1),most adults remained undernourished even after completing TB treatment.Conclusions The current TB nutritional support programme falls short of sufficiently increasing the BMl of people with TB to overcome malnutrition.The

文物承载着灿烂文明,传承着历史文化,是全人类的宝贵遗产。由于文物不可再生的珍贵性,以及最少干预的文物保护基本原则,无损分析技术始终是文物制作工艺研究、劣化机理及保护修复研究中材料分析的最主要技术手段。因此,研发、应用新型无损分析技术是文物保护利用的重要研究方向。近年来,源于遥感领域的便携式地物高光谱仪在文物材料分析中展现出强大应用潜力,并且已在石质古建筑、绘画等文物修复中成功应用。作为一种无需采样的非侵入式光谱技术,便携式地物高光谱仪可在极短时间获取一个涵盖可见光-近红外-短波红外波段(350~2500 nm)的全波段、高分辨率反射光谱。同时,其便携程度很高,对工作环境、光源等无特殊要求,可在野外文物或遗址现场原位使用。此外,在采集光谱数据的同时还可通过遥感技术实现数据的远程传输和分析。上述技术特点使其在文物材料分析中具有独特的应用优势。以光谱技术的基本原理为基础,首先介绍了目前文物材料分析中常用便携式地物高光谱仪的设备型号及其性能指标;其次细致梳理了近十年来其在有机质/无机质文物材料定性和定量分析、文物保护材料分析,以及文物修复原位、实时监测等方面的应用现状;之后深入探讨了谱图预处理的规范和建立标准波谱库等两个影响该技术应用效果的关键问题;最后展望了该技术的发展趋势,预期在脆弱有机质文物分析、多种分析技术联合应用和定量分析研究方面前景广阔。

Prevention of thromboembolic events after radical prostatectomy in patients with hereditary thrombophilia due to a factor V Leiden mutation by multidisciplinary coagulation management

Objective:To examine the perioperative impact of factor V Leiden mutation on thromboembolic events'risk in radical prostatectomy(RP)patients.With an incidence of about 5%,factor V Leiden mutation is the most common hereditary hypercoagulability among Caucasians and rarer in Asia.The increased risk of thromboembolic events is three-to seven-fold in heterozygous and to 80-fold in homozygous patients.Methods:Within our prospectively collected database,we analysed 33006 prostate cancer patients treated with RP between December 2001 and December 2020.Of those,patients with factor V Leiden mutation were identified.All patients received individualised recommendation of haemostaseologists for perioperative anticoagulation.Thromboembolic complications(deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism)were assessed during hospital stay,as well as according to patient reported outcomes within the first 3 months after RP.Results:Overall,85(0.3%)patients with known factor V Leiden mutation were identified.Median age was 65(interquartile range:61-68)years.There was at least one thrombosis in 53(62.4%)patients and 31(36.5%)patients had at least one embolic event in their medical history before RP.Within all 85 patients with factor V Leiden mutation,we experienced no thromboembolic complications within the first 3 months after surgery.Conclusion:In our cohort of patients with factor V Leiden mutation,no thromboembolic events were observed after RP with an individualised perioperative coagulation management concept.This may reassure patients with this hereditary condition who are counselled for RP.

Silymarin, from the fruit of Silybum marianum, is known for its hepatoprotective action. The aim of this study was to review the mechanisms of action of the silymarin phytocomplex to expand the possibilities for its application in human health. The search for published articles was carried out on the CAPES Journals Portal platform, which covers worldwide scientific databases. Publications from 2010 to 2022 were included. Of the 311 articles retrieved, 21 were included. The articles discuss the diversity of silymarin’s applications and the possibility of optimizing its bioavailability using drug delivery systems. Silymarin shows promise in numerous diseases, such as liver, kidney, cardiovascular, respiratory and others. Its antiviral action has been demonstrated in studies and silymarin has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy in the treatment of many diseases, with the expectation that, in the future, it will be used in therapeutic protocols for exclusive use.

New Rotative Radiofrequency Technology: A Multicenter Retrospective Study on Efficacy and Safety

Background: Non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) technology is widely used for the treatment of signs of aging, skin laxity, localized fat and cellulite. However, many RF devices suffer from technical limitations that make the results highly dependent on the user’s experience or clinical limitations that compromise safety, efficacy and comfort. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel semi-automatic non-ablative RF device for skin tightening, body shaping and cellulite reduction. Materials and methods: A retrospective multicenter study was performed using a novel rotative RF device with temperature and impedance control (Sculpt&Shape®, Sinclair, Spain). 58 subjects underwent a minimum of 4 treatments every 1-2 weeks. A total of 120 treatments (56.7% body and 43.3% facial) and 1034 sessions were performed. Efficacy was evaluated by 3 researchers using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and anthropometric measurements were collected. Subject and practitioner satisfaction were recorded. Safety was evaluated by analyzing the perception of pain during the treatment and the side and adverse effects immediately after treatment and over the next 48 hours. Results: Between 25% and 50% improvement was achieved according to the GAIS. Statistically significant (p < 0.01) abdominal fold reduction of 5.1 mm and circumference reduction of 32.0 mm, 16.4 mm and 13.9 mm were recorded for the abdomen, legs and arms, respectively. 77.5% of subjects and 94.9% of practitioners were either satisfied or very satisfied. Minor adverse effects were found in 0.97% of the sessions. Conclusion: This novel semi-automatic rotative RF device has been found to provide treatments that are effective, safe and comfortable for both practitioners and subjects. .

Determination of particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in ambient air by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry after molecularly imprinted polymer extraction

A solid phase extraction procedure(SPE)is described for the quantitative analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in atmospheric particulate matter(PM),as ubiquitous environmental pollutants routinely measured in air qualitymonitoring.A SPE cartridge was used based on a molecular imprinted polymer(MIP-SPE)properly tailored for selective retention of PAHs with 4 and more benzene fused rings.The performance of the clean-up procedure was evaluated with the specific concern of selective purification towards saturated hydrocarbons,which are the PM components mostly interfering GC analysis of target PAHs.Under optimized operative conditions,the MIP-SPE provided analyte recovery close to 95%for heavier PAHs,from benzo(α)pyrene to benzo(ghi)perylene,and close to 90%for four benzene rings PAHs,with good reproducibility(RSDs:2.5%-5.9%).Otherwise,C_(17)-C_(32) n-alkanes were nearly completely removed.The proposed method was critically compared with Solid Phase Micro Extraction(SPME)using a polyacrylate fiber.Both methods were successfully applied to the analysis of ambient PM2.5 samples collected at an urban polluted site.Between the two procedures,the MIP-SPE provided the highest recovery(R%≥93%)for PAHs with 5 and more benzene rings,but lower for lighter PAHs.In contrast,SPME showed a mean acceptable R%value(∼80%)for all the investigated PAHs,except for the heaviest PAHs in the most polluted samples(R%:110%-138%),suggesting an incomplete purification from the interfering n-hydrocarbons.
