Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Congenital Heart Disease with Left-to-Right Shunt: According to a Retrospective Study at Albert Royer’s National Children’s Hospital Center

Pulmonary arterial hypertension PAH is a progressive disease characterized by an increase in pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance. it often complicates congenital heart disease with a left-to-right shunt. The objective of this study is to evaluate the evolutionary profile of the pulmonary pressures of children with congenital heart disease with left-to-right shunt and to identify the factors favoring an evolution towards PAH. This is a retrospective, descriptive and analytical study over a period of four years and six months (from January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2020) at the Center National d’Enfant Albert Royer in Dakar on a series of 87 cases. The hospital frequency was 3.98 per thousand, and the incidence of PAH was 9.44%. The sex ratio of 0.74. The average age was 44.76 months. The average time between the onset of symptoms and the diagnosis of heart disease is 78.81 days. Dyspnea was found in 70.11% of cases, the burst of pulmonary B2 was found in 55%. Global heart failure was noted in 39.08% of cases. Cardiomegaly was found in 89.66% and pulmonary hypervascularization was found in 57.72% of cases. CiV was present in 54.02% of cases, followed by PCA in 21.14% and CAVc in 18.39% of cases. furosemide was used in 97.70% of cases and Captopril in 74.71% of cases. Sildenafil was used in 10.34% of patients, and 12.64% of patients benefited from surgical management. Eisenmenger syndrome was found in 12.64% of patients. PAH in these heart diseases is a formidable and frequent complication, due to an increase in precapillary flow. The major improvement in mortality and morbidity is early surgical management, in the first months of life, to prevent pulmonary vascular disease.

Effect of organic Dopants in Dimetallophthalocyanine Thin Films: Application to optoelectronic Devices

Semiconductor films of organic, doped dimetallophthalocyanine M2Pcs (M = Li, Na) on different substrates were prepared by synthesis and vacuum evaporation. Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) were used as dopants and the structure and morphology of the semiconductor films were studied using iR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Disper.ive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS). The absorption spectra recorded in the ultraviolet-visible region for the deposited films showed the Q and Soret bands related to the electronic π-π* transitions in M2Pc molecules. optical characterization of the films indicates electronic transitions characteristic of amorphous thin films with optical bandgaps between 1.2 and 2.4 eV. Finally, glass/iTo/doped M2Pc/Ag thin-film devices were produced and their electrical behavior was evaluated by using the four-tip collinear method. The devices manufactured from Na2Pc have a small rectifying effect, regardless of the organic dopant used, while the device manufactured from Li2Pc-TCNQ presents ohmic-like behavior at low voltages, with an insulating threshold around 19 V. Parameters such as the hole mobility (μ), the concentration of thermally-generated holes (p0), the concentration of traps per unit of energy (P0) and the total trap concentration (Nt(e)) were also determined for the Li2Pc-TTF device.

The tomato is one of the horticultural crops of the greatest economic value;for this reason, flexibility of management is usable. The population density in a crop of vegetables is determined by the distance between the plants and so it is necessary to choose the number of plants per square meter since the saturation of plants will lead to competition between sunlight, nutrients and weed. The objective of this work is to make the appropriate investigation for the use of the model proposed in order to describe the growth of tomato in greenhouse to high density of two plants per container to two bunches per plant, resulting in eight plants per square meter to grow, by means of a simulator of growth by computer. of this work, it is concluded that it is possible to use the model to describe the growth of plants, and in the near future it will be possible to develop a simulator by computer of the growth of these crops in order to improve their quality and increase their production.

oBJECTiVE To assess the role of beta-blockers(BB)in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)aged≥75 *** AND RESULTS From January 2008 to July 2014,we included 390 consecutive patients≥75 years of age with ejection fraction≤35%and glomerular filtration rate(GFR)≤60 m L/min per 1.73 m^*** analyzed the relationship between treatment with BB and mortality or cardiovascular *** mean age of our population was 82.6±4.1 *** ejection fraction was 27.9%±6.5%.GFR was 60-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 50.3%of patients,45-30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 37.4%,andin per 1.73 m^2 in 12.3%.At the conclusion of follow-up,67.4%of patients were receiving *** median follow-up was28.04(iR:19.41-36.67)*** the study period,211 patients(54.1%)died and 257(65.9%)had a major cardiovascular event(death or hospitalization for heart failure).BB use was significantly associated with a reduced risk of death(HR=0.51,95%Ci:0.35-0.74;Pients receiving BB consistently showed a reduced risk of death across the different stages of CKD:stage iiia(GFR=30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.47,95%Ci:0.26-0.86,Piiib(GFR 30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.55,95%Ci:0.26-1.06,P=0.007),and stages iV and V(GFRin per 1.73 m~2;HR=0.29,95%Ci:0.11-0.76;P=0.047).CoNCLUSioNS The use of BB in elderly patients with HFr EF and renal impairment was associated with a better *** of BB should be encouraged when possible.

Comparison between linseed expeller and canola expeller on concentrate intake,and circulating inflammatory mediators in Holstein calves

The objective of this study was to compare the effect of linseed and canola expeller on average daily weight gain(ADG),concentrate intakes,incidence of diarrhea,serum haptoglobin,interleukin(iL)-1,and resolvin-E1 in female Holstein calves from birth to weaning.A sample size of 20 calves per group was calculated and were randomly allocated at the time of *** group(LiN)was fed a starter with linseed expeller,while canola group(CAN)received a similar concentrate,but with canola *** expellers were included at a rate of 25%dry matter(DM)basis of the *** waste milk was fed twice a day until *** were weighed at birth,30,and 60 d of *** intake was evaluated daily from 5 to 60 d.A blood sample was obtained at birth,14,28,35,and 49 d of age,and bovine serum resolvin-El,haptoglobin,and iL-1 were assayed by commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELiSA)*** of diarrhea and the duration of the events were also *** effect of the interaction group by time on body weight(BW)and starter intake was not significant(P>0.05).Average daily gains(ADG)from 0 to 60 d for CAN and LiN groups were 0.680 and 0.675 kg/d(P>0.05),*** of diarrhea were 25%and 45%for CAN and LiN groups,respectively(P=0.18).LiN group had greater concentrations of iL-1 at d 21,haptoglobin at d 7,and resolving-El at d 14 and 49 than CAN group,*** is concluded that BW at weaning,ADG,and concentrate intakes were not different between groups fed starters containing linseed or canola expeller(25%inclusion).The concentrations of cytokines and haptoglobin were the greatest in LiN group.

Assessment of LLLT systemic effects on thyroid hormones function after dental titanium implant installation:An experimental rabbit model

This study aimed to assess the systemic effect of LLLT on thyroid gland functioning and consequently on calcium regulation through Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4) measurements in rabbits’ serum. A total of thirty two New Zealand male rabbits were randomly distributed in four groups with eight animals each: control group C (nonirradiated animals), group Ei (5 J/cm2 per session), group Eii (10 J/cm2 per session) and group Eiii (20 J/cm2 per session). All animals underwent lower left incisor extraction followed by immediate insertion of an osseintegrated implant, providing an equality of initial clinical condition between the groups. The experimental groups were irradiated with aluminium gallium arsenide diode laser (GaAlAs, λ = 830 nm, 50 mW, CW), during 13 days at each 48 hours, totalizing 7 sessions. Laboratorial T3 and T4 measurements were done in four distinct moments (before surgical procedure, immediately after surgical procedure, after the first LLLT session and after the last LLLT session) in all animals. The results obtained showed statistically significant differences in Triiodothyronine values between the groups throughout the experiment. it was concluded that the LLLT, in the protocol of irradiation used in this study, promoted a significantly alteration on rabbits’ serum hormonal levels.

<i>N</i>-Acetylated Gemini Surfactants: Synthesis, Surface-Active Proper.ies, Antifungal Activity, and Ecotoxicity Bioassays

A series of N-acetylated cationic gemini surfactants (3a-e) having dimeric structures derived from tertiary amines were synthesized. Their antifungal potency and surface proper.ies were determined. it also studied the acute toxicity of the molecule with the best performance and the best water solubility (3e) through Chlorella vulgaris and Daphnia magna bioassays. The results were compared to those obtained for a commercially available reference compound 2-(thiocyanomethylthio) benzothiazole (TCMTB). Parameters such as surface tension (ϒCMC), critical micelle concentration (CMC), surface excess concentration (Γ), and area per molecule (A) were determined. The resulting values indicated that the five gemini surfactants are characterized by good surface-active and self-aggregation proper.ies. All surfactants were tested to evaluate their antifungal activity. Six fungal strains were used to conduct the study. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MiC) value was measured by the fungal growth inhibition. The results of the MiCs were compared with two commercially available reference compounds (Fluconazole and TCMTB). The least active molecule was 3e, but 3b and 3d were found to be the most potent compounds with a similar activity for all strains. Candida albicans was the most sensitive one. in contrast, Asper.illus niger was resistant. Ecotoxicity of gemini 3e was assessed: the commercial formulation (TCMTB) was between three and four orders of magnitude more toxic than the gemini one for the biological species tested.

The Children’s Faecal Matter Structure is Built by Their Parents

introduction: Humans have gone through physical changes over the last 4 million years. The mouth, however, has not changed teeth quantity or quality. Eight incisors for fruits, vegetables and tubers;four little canines for little animals;eight premolars and twelve flat molars are used for crushing these foods, especially whole grains and legumes. The teeth crushing foods are the first step in the building of faecal matter. Foods are selected mostly according to cultural guidelines than to biological needs. The patterns of consumption are induced by the publicity of industrialized or processed foods. Material and Methods: This study design was observational, analytical, correlational, transversal and prospective. one thousand children (0 - 12 years old) were questioned in order to learn about the relationship between Weekly Eating Frequency (WEF) and Faecal Matter (FM) characteristics. The FM was classified as soft, normal or hard and the outcome was expressed as Dry Faecal Residue (DFR). The WEF and Weekly Bowel Movement Frequency (WBMF) were determined and tabulated according to times per week. Environmental factors, parents’ education level and children’s birth order were examined. Results: There was a strong association between DFR, WBMF and WEF. Environment and education level did not play a key role although birth order did matter. Conclusions: Fibre-free foods (dairies, meats, flours and sweeties or sodas) increased DFR. Foods containing fibre from vegetables decreased DFR, which in turn contributed to the WBMF. Lowest DFR was observed in children under Exclusive Breastfeeding (EB). Distant last-born children had higher DFR. Comments: Daily examples support these results and it is clear that children’s FM is built by their parents. We encourage parents to follow the “mouth nature” rather than the “advertisements nature”.

Scoring and Consequential Validity Evidence of Computer-and Paper-Based Writing Tests in Times of Change

Little is known about how the assessment modality,i.e.,computer-based(CB)and paper-based(PB)tests,affects language teachers’scorings,perceptions,and preferences and,therefore,the validity and fairness of classroom writing *** present mixed-methods study used Shaw and Weir’s(2007)sociocognitive writing test validation framework to examine the scoring and consequential validity evidence of CB and PB writing tests in EFL classroom assessment in higher *** handwritten and word-processed texts of 38 EFL university students were transcribed to their opposite format and assessed by three language lecturers(N=456 texts,152 per teacher)to examine the scoring validity of CB and PB *** teachers’perceptions of text quality and preferences for assessment modality accounted for the consequential validity evidence of both *** revealed that the assessment modality impacted teachers’scorings,perceptions,and *** teachers awarded higher scores to original and transcribed handwritten texts,particularly text organization and language *** teachers’perceptions of text quality differed from their ratings,and physical,psychological,and experiential characteristics influenced their preferences for assessment *** results have implications for the validity and fairness of CB and PB writing tests and teachers’assessment practices.

Greenhouses Gases, Carbonyls, and Volatile organic Compounds Surface Flux Emissions at Three Final Waste Disposal Sites Located in the Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica

The surface flux emissions for volatile organic compounds (VoC’s) (alcohols and aromatic species), priority carbonyls and greenhouse gases, were measured in three different final disposal sites for urban solid waste located in the metropolitan area of Costa Rica, between July and october 2014. The emissions fluxes were determined using the static sampling chamber technique coupled to two different adsorption tubes: active charcoal (Supelco, oRBo 32) to capture BTEX and alcohols;and 2,4-DNPH coated silica gel (SKC, 226-119) for carbonyls. As for the VoCs, the BTEX, Alcohols, and Carbonyls total fluxes were in the range of 3 to 258, 1 to 318 and 0.4 to 8.5 mg/(m2día), respectively. The magnitudes per site were in the following order La Carpio > El Huaso > Rio Azul. Ethanol and BTEX presented a high correlation in all the cases because possibly they are sharing the same sources or formation mechanisms. The emission fluxes spatial distributions among the sites were very variable and dependent on the location of the active cells and their age. only La Carpio showed a more homogeneous distribution due to its middle age.
