Human-induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)are an accessible source of adult-derived,patient-specific pluripotent stem cells for use in basic research,drug discovery,disease modeling,and stem cell *** the accessibility of methods to obtain iPSCs regardless of the cell source can enhance their clinical ***,our purpose is to report a simple protocol to obtain iPS-like cells from urine-derived renal epithelial cells(RECs)using different extracellular matrices and transfection *** this study,we began by culturing urine-derived cells from healthy donors to establish a primary culture of renal epithelial cells,followed by their ***,we generated iPS-like cells by transfecting renal epithelial cells(RECs)with vectors expressing Oct4,Sox2,L-Myc,Lin-28,and Klf4,and we compared the efficacy of different extracellular matrices and transfection *** resultant iPS-like cells showed a human embryonic stem cell-like morphology and expressed the specific pluripotency markers Oct3/4,Nanog,Lin28,and *** concluded that Lipofectamine Stem Cell transfection reagent is more effective than FuGENE in obtaining iPS-like cells under the conditions ***,the three matrices are similar in their efficiency of obtaining iPS-like *** report provides an experimental protocol for obtaining and generating iPS-like cells from urine samples for further cell therapy research on different human diseases.

The Claromec o Basin is located at the south-western sector of the Buenos Aires province,*** basin is considered a foreland basin closely related to the evolution of the southwestern Gondwana *** contribution focuses on the provenance analysis of the Tunas Formation(Permian,Pillahuinc o Group),which represents the last filling stage for the Claromec o Foreland *** and tectonic provenance analyses were performed in sandstones recovered from subsurface(PANG 0001 and PANG0003 exploration wells)and outcrops located close to the basin center(Gonzales Chaves locality).In the subsurface,the analyzed succession is composed of medium-to fine-grained sandstones interbedded with tuffs,mudrocks,carbonaceous mudrocks and coal *** outcrops,the succession is dominated by mediumto fine-grained sandstones interbedded with *** composition patterns are distributed into the recycled orogen and transitionally recycled to mixed *** analyses,in addition to provenance and sedimentological studies,confirm that sedimentary material was derived from a mixed source,which largely comes from the Sierras Australes fold and thrust belt,located towards the W-SW,where the sedimentary succession is interbedded with volcanic *** Tunas Formation shows clear differences in its modal composition,paleocurrent direction and paleoenvironmental conditions with respect to the underlying units of the Pillahuinc o Group(Sauce Grande,Piedra Azul and Bonete formations).Source areas changed from cratonic to mixed fold belt/arc-derived material,suggesting variations in the Claromec o Basin configuration during the Late *** in the paleotectonic scenario during the deposition of the Tunas Formation have been interpreted as a consequence of a compressive post-collisional deformation event,the product of adjustment,accommodation and translation of terrains towards the equator during the Permian-Triassic to form Pangea.

Cancer is a major cause of death *** carcinoma(HCC)is one of the malignancies with the highest mortality-to-incidence ratio(>0.9),and in some countries this value is up to ***,many patients are diagnosed at advanced stages of the ***,HCC early markers,as well as novel therapeutic approaches,are urgently *** is the main type of liver cancer and it is associated with different factors including alcohol use,viral infections,and fatty liver disease.A significant percentage of HCC patients previously had liver *** ion channels have been proposed as novel potential markers and therapeutic targets for diverse cancers including ***,we review most of the findings associating ion channel expression with HCC and its etiological factors,as well as some possible pro-tumorigenic mechanisms of action for ion channels in *** therapies for HCC treatment and prevention are also *** channel targeting offers a plethora of opportunities for HCC prevention,early diagnosis,and therapy that may help to reduce the extremely high mortality-to-incidence ratio of this malignancy.

Resection of the uncinate process of the pancreas due to a ganglioneuroma

A 33-year-old woman who presented with epigastric discomfort and diarrhea underwent an abdominal ultrasound(US).This investigation and subsequent contrastenhanced computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging and endoscopic US with fine needle aspiration (FNA)revealed a 40 mm well-circumscribed mass in the uncinate process of the *** were suggestive of a mucinous or solid-cystic pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas,although other lesions such as a nonfunctioning neuroendocrine tumor could not be ruled *** samples were negative for malignant cells,but of limited value due to poor *** was decided to surgically remove the tumor because malignancy could not be *** intraoperative biopsies were suggestive of mesenchymal tumor and consequently a conservative resection(uncinatectomy)was performed. Copper Oxide Inked with Dye Obtained from the Lactarius Indigo Fungus for Energy Production

The results obtained from the characterization of a copper deposit on indium doped tin oxide (ITO), inked with natural dye extracted from the Lactarius indigo fungus, for use in Gratzel type solar cells are reported. An electrolyte composed of 0.1 M HNO3 and 0.5 M CuSO4 was used, this solution was prepared for copper deposits on the ITO. Cyclic voltammetry was performed at different scan rates to obtain the reduction zone for deposition between potentials of ?100 to ?500 mV. The dye was obtained from the indigo Lactarius fungus from maceration, once the inked deposits were obtained, characterizations were performed, the initial test was to obtain the Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-visible) of the pure dye, and later the same test was performed on the inked oxide. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was performed on the samples, as well as Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), to characterize the material properties for its application.

Intestinal anti-inflammatory effect of a plant sterol food supplement in experimental murine colitis and cell co-culture models

The potential of a plant sterol food supplement （PS-FS） in addressing intestinal inflammation in vivo and in vitro was evaluated. As in vivo model， C57BL/6J mice were exposed to 1.5% dextran sulfate sodium in three 5-day periods， with 10-day rest intervals in between， daily reciving PS-FS （35 mg PS/kg）. The in vitro approach involved a bi-cameral system with 8-day-differentiated Caco-2 （apical） and RAW264.7 cells （basolateral）. The bioaccessible fraction of PS-FS， obtained after INFOGEST 2.0 simulated gastrointestinal digestion， was added to the apical part （90 min）， followed by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide （1 μg/mL， 24 h）. PS-FS alleviated rectal bleeding and rebalanced pro- (tumor necrosis factor α， interleukin （IL）-6， and IL-8) and anti-inflammatory cytokines （IL-10）. Additionally， PS-FS ameliorated histopathological damage and enhancing occludin expression. A reduction in oxidative stress was evidenced by decreased myeloperoxidase activity and reactive oxygen species production. The anti-inflammatory mechanism included suppressing cyclooxygenase 2 expression， reducing prostaglandin E2production， and inhibiting the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of the nuclear factor κB p65 subunit. This study reveals the potential of PS-FS as a therapeutic intervention for colitis. The alignment between in vivo and in vitro outcomes substantiates the appropriateness of the co-culture model to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of foods.

Occult hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection(OBI) is defined by the presence of HBV DNA in the liver tissue of individuals who test negative for hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg).Patients who have recovered from acute hepatitis B can carry HBV genomes for a long time and show histological patterns of mild necro-inflammation,even fibrosis,years after the resolution of acute hepatitis,without showing any clinical or biochemical evidence of liver *** least in conditions of immunocompetence,OBI is inoffensive itself,but when other relevant causes of liver damage are present it might make the course of the liver disease *** risk of HBV transmission through transfusion is related to blood donations negative for HBsAg that have been collected during the pre-seroconversion period or during chronic *** of HBV nucleic acid amplification testing and multivalent anti-HBs antibodies in the HBsAg assays is recommended for detection of true and false OBI,*** is not known if prior hepatitis B immunization with an optimal anti-HBs response in cases of HBV transmission through organ transplantation can effectively modulate or abort the *** of anti-viral agents as prophylaxis in patients with serological evidence of past HBV infection prevents reactivation of OBI after transplantation in most *** of OBI has been observed in other conditions that cause immunosuppression,in which antiviral therapy could be delayed until the HBV DNA or HBsAg becomes *** might contribute to the progression of liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma development in patients with chronic liver disease.

Different strategies of treatment for uterine cervical carcinoma stage ⅠB2-ⅡB

Uterine cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological malignancy. It is estimated that over 35% of tumors are diagnosed at locally advanced disease, stage ⅠB2-ⅡB with an estimated 5-year overall survival of 60%. During the last decades, the initial treatment for these women has been debated and largely varies through different countries. Thus, radical concurrent chemoradiation is the standard of care in United Sated and Canada, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical surgery is the first line of treatment in some institutions of Europe, Asia and Latin America. Until today, there is no evidence of which strategy is better over the other. This article describe the evidence as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the main strategies of treatment for women affected by uterine cervical cancer stage ⅠB2-ⅡB.

Vegetation Response To Soil And Morphological Properties In An Arid Region Alluvial Fan Landscape. Pre-Andes Of San Juan， Argentina

The Monte desert is characterized by a great diversity of landforms created with fluvial， alluvial which the vegetation patterns are related to. The present work has the following objectives: 1: determine whether topographical attributes， surface characteristics， soil properties and vegetation patterns vary between alluvial landforms， and 2: define whether morphometric， soil and surface properties influence vegetation patterns along alluvial landscape. Morphometric data were obtained by processing a 5 m digital elevation model. The coverage of rock fragments， fine sediments and mulch was quantified. Observations and descriptions of the soil profiles were restricted to the uppermost 50 cm. Vegetation properties were calculated using a Point Quadrat Method. The relationship between variables was evaluated through multivariate statistical analysis. The main results show the presence of 45 plant species distributed in 19 families， where shrubs are dominant. The wind effect， topographic wetness and dissection of the landscape are limiting factors of diversity. The coverage of superficial rock fragments influence vegetation coverage through the distribution and availability of rainwater. Furthermore， the different soil textures reveal that the silt content favors an increase in vegetation coverage. The presence of V horizon could condition the installation and development of vegetation in the early stages of growth.

Eutrophication Levels through San Pedro-Mezquital River Basin

This paper presents an eutrophication diagnosis for the San Pedro-Mezquital basin at Mexico;procedure accounted to set up 10 sampling points distributed along the river pathway, sample collection was done at two extreme conditions: rainy season and dry season. Five parameters were analyzed in this work: pH, % Dissolved Oxygen, reactive phosphorus, and nitrogen species as nitrate and ammonia compounds. Obtained concentrations were statistically analyzed to establish if there were significant differences among sites and between seasons;being the dry season the one with higher nutrient content, ammonia can be considered statistical significance due to the total values found for each season. Calculation of the Karydis eutrophication index for each parameter showed that more damaged sites were those nearby the cities, and most of the sampled sites belonged to the eutrophic category.
