Virulence Factors and Biofilm Formation in Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium Isolates in Brazil

In this work, we evaluated biofilm formation of Vancomycin Resistant of E. faecalis and E. faecium (VRE) in different culture media and adhesion substrate, as well as cellular hydrophobicity and presence of virulence genes. For this, 35 isolates were collected from a public hospital in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil and identified by the Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization - Time-of-flight - Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) technique. Biofilm formation was analyzed by the Crystal Violet (CV) method and fluorescence microscopy, cellular hydrophobicity by hydrocarbon interaction and the presence of gelE, esp and asa1 genes by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). 12 isolates were identified as E. faecalis and 23 as E. faecium. Most were obtained in Coronary Units (40.0%) and Intensive Care Unit (31.4%). E. faecium isolates were more resistant to the antibiotics tested than E. faecalis;however, E. faecalis stood out as a biofilm producer. Regarding the presence and gene frequency, it was observed that gelE (54.3%) and esp (54.3%) were the most prevalent, followed by asa1 (22.9%). When comparing the gene frequency, it was observed that gelE and esp were predominant (48.6% for both species), while asa1 was more frequent in E. faecalis (20.0%). The data presented here are worrying, because they reveal the virulence potential of isolates VRE, which contributes to the dissemination and persistence of these pathogens in the hospital environment.

We present a model of gauge theory based on the symmetry group G×SU（2） where G is the gravitational gauge group and SU（2） is the internal group of symmetry. We employ the spacetime of four-dimensional Minkowski, endowed with spherical coordinates, and describe the gauge fields by gauge potentials. The corresponding strength field tensors are calculated and the field equations are written. A solution of these equations is obtained for the case that the gauge potentials have a particular form potentials induces a metric of Schwarzschild type on with spherical symmetry. The solution for the gravitational the gravitational gauge group space.

China’s policies on Polar Silk Road and impacts on trade and energy use in Arctic region

China has recently established a new policy for the energy use of the Arctic *** though it is not a part of the Arctic Council,China has started a series of partnerships with public and private entities of countries that are geographically and politically members of the Arctic polar *** project has to be carried out within the“Belt and Road Initiative”,by establishing new trade routes between China and the rest of the *** study aims at assessing the fuel consumption for the Arctic shipping routes and comparing them to the traditional ones,in terms of cost reduction and time ***,a brief consideration on oil&gas arctic fields has been carried out,in order to understand how the energy policy of China is changing the resource utilization.

Epigenetic mechanisms,such as DNA methylation and histone modiﬁcations(e.g.,acetylation and deacetylation),are strongly implicated in the carcinogenesis of various *** transcription,the expression and functionality of coding gene products are altered following the histone acetylation and *** processes are regulated by histone acetyltransferases(HATs)and histone deacetylases(HDACs),*** inhibitors(HDACis)have been developed as promising therapeutic agents,to limit exposure to traditional and toxic chemotherapies and offer more alternatives for some speciﬁc malignant diseases with limited ***,these agents affect many intracellular pathways,including cell cycle arrest,apoptosis and differentiation,and their mechanism of action mainly depends on the type of ***,ﬁve HDACis have been approved for the treatment of several hematological malignancies(e.g.,T-cell lymphoma subtypes and multiple myeloma);while,many of them are tested for further therapeutic indications in solid tumors(e.g.,colorectal,thyroid,breast,lung and pancreatic cancer).Herein,we review the literature and gather all available evidence,from in vitro and in vivo data to clinical trial results,that recognizes the antitumor activity of HDACis on pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas;and supports their clinical implementation in the treatment of these rare neuroendocrine tumors at metastatic setting.

Patients with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection may complain of dyspeptic symptoms without presence of macroscopic lesions on gastroduodenal mucosa. Such a condition is usually recognized as functional dyspepsia, and different pathogenetic mechanisms are involved. The role of H. pylori in these patients is controversial. Several trials assessed the potential role of H. pylori eradication in improving dyspeptic symptoms, and data of some meta-analyses demonstrated that cure of infection is associated with a small (10%), but significant therapeutic gain as compared to placebo. The reason for which dyspeptic symptoms regress in some patients following bacterial eradication, but persist in others remains unclear. Regrettably, trials included in the meta-analyses are somewhat different for study design, definition of symptoms, assessment of symptoms changes, and some may be flawed by potential pitfalls. Consequently, the information could be not consistent. We critically reviewed the main available trials, attempting to address future research in this field

Family Farms-- A New Challenge in the Current World Context

The overall goal of European Union and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is to reposition family farming at the center of agricultural, environmental, and social policies in the national agendas by identifying gaps and opportunities to promote a shift towards a more equal and balanced development. They want to promote directions in order to generate discussion and cooperation at the local, national, regional, and global levels; increase awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by smallholders; and help to identify efficient ways to support family farmers. This paper presents some information on the status and evolution of Romanian agriculture small and medium enterprises （SMEs） and it presents a model for determining the founds needs to support family farmers.

We described the case of a peripancreatic paraganglioma(PGL)misdiagnosed as pancreatic *** exploration revealed an unremarkable pancreas and a large well-defined cystic mass originating at the mesocolon *** enucleation of the mass was performed,preserving the pancreatic ***,a diagnosis of PGL was ***,two previously unreported mutations,one affecting the KDR gene in exon 7 and another on the JAK3 gene in exon 4 were *** mutations are known to be *** and cytologic findings were blindly reviewed by an expert panel of clinicians,radiologists,and pathologists to identify possible causes of the *** major issue was lack of evidence of a cleavage plane from the pancreas at imaging,which prompted radiologists to establish an intraparenchymal *** blinded revision shifted the diagnosis towards an extrapancreatic lesion,as the pancreatic parenchyma showed no structural alterations and no dislocation of the Wirsung *** post,the identified biases were the emergency setting of the radiologic examination and the very thin mesocolon sheet,which hindered clear definition of the lesion *** endoscopic ultrasonography diagnosis was confirmed,emphasizing the intrinsic limit of this technique in detecting large ***,pathologic review favored a diagnosis of PGL due to the morphological features and immonohistochemical *** months after tumor excision,the patient is asymptomatic with no disease relapse evident by either radiology or laboratory *** report strongly highlights the difficulties in rendering an accurate preoperative diagnosis of PGL.

Staple-line leak after sleve gastrectomy in obese patients: A hot topic in bariatric surgery

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that is being increasingly performed on obese patients. Among its complications, leaks are the most serious and life threatening. The placement of esophageal, covered, self-expandable metal stents in these cases has been performed by many authors but reports on the outcome of this procedure are limited and the technical aspects are not well defined. Stent migration is the main complication of the procedure and poses a challenge to the surgeon, with a limited number of options. Here we evaluate the technical and clinical outcome of a new, dedicated, self-expanding metal stent, comparing the advantages of this stent to those traditionally used to treat staple-line leak after sleeve gastrectomy. While published data are limited, they seem support the use of this kind of new stent as the best option for the stenting treatment of a staple-line leak after sleeve gastrectomy, over other kinds of stents. Further studies based on larger series are needed to better evaluate patient outcome.
